  • Publication number: 20110090870
Abstract: The present invention relates to a solution for handling seamless handover between a 3GPP network and a non-3GPP network or two non-3GPP networks. The solution uses a new state information informing about a UE being in an Idle state in relation to the network not currently communicating through. Thus the UE is not immediately detached from the old network but may keep a logical connection and quickly re-attach to the old network if of interest.

  • Patent number: 7916732
Abstract: Packet data gateway (PDG) in an integrated WLAN-GSM/3G core network, is disclosed comprising a router (R) having a number of gateways (Wi; OP INT 1, OP INT 2, INT DEFAULT) which are associated with various QoS traffic properties (BE, EF), an interface to a WLAN network (Wu) and an interface (Go) to a policy decision function (PDF), a translating unit (TLT). The packet data gateway engages in a service based local procedure (SBLP) whereby a negotiated QoS property is received for a given session identifier as negotiated between a user entity (UE), an Application Function (AF) and a Policy Decision Function (PDF). A WLAN user entity engaging with the PDG is defined. Moreover, a service based local policy procedure (SBLP) for a packet data gateway (PDG) and Service based local policy procedure for a dedicated gateway support node (GGSN) and a tunnel terminal gateway (TTG) is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7855999
Abstract: A wireless station, in a wireless LAN, includes a network interface to a network interface device, e.g., a NIC, that includes a transceiver, an antenna, at least a first power supply or energy holder. The wireless station supports transmission of data in frames of variable length. Frame fragmentation is implemented by dividing a (long) frame into a number of frame fragments. Each fragment is sent as a non-fragmented frame. The length of a time period before or between transmission of (consecutive) frame fragments is controlled in order to decrease energy consumption during a predetermined time interval.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, devices, and a program for using IP multicast addresses for mobile terminals (6) (UE) connected to a communication gateway (1) in a wireless communication network (2). The IP multicast address is used for updating routers (3) in the infrastructure network of where to transport data to the UE when the UE connects to another communication gateway (V), this may be updated from the new communication gateway or from a mobility management entity (5) relieving a network gateway (4) (e.g. a SAE gateway) of control traffic reducing the risk of bottle necks in the infrastructure network (2).

  • Publication number: 20100027541
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, signal and devices for facilitating distribution of multimedia broadcast multicast services, i.e. MBMS, in a telecommunications network by receiving an MBSM session start message from a broadcast/multicast service center; sending control traffic on a control network; sending as control traffic to a serving node an MBMS session start request message and including a common tunnel end-point identifier, i.e. common TEID, in the MBMS session start request message; receiving information from the serving node indicating the acceptance of using IP multicast; and sending media content on an IP multicast backbone to hosts that have joined the multicast group using the common TEID. If any part of the communication network does not accept the IP multicast backbone as distribution method tunnels will be used between the gateway and serving node and between the serving node and control node.

  • Patent number: 7633903
Abstract: A method and packet data support node in a radio telecommunications network supporting packet data communication between a packet data network and a mobile terminal in radio communication with a first packet control unit. The packet data support node receives a message from the mobile terminal requesting handover to a second packet control unit. A packet flow context detector in the packet data support node detects the number of packet flow contexts currently active in the first packet control unit for supporting the packet data connection. The detector sends a message during handover to the second packet control unit indicating the number of active packet flow contexts. The message is used for activation of a corresponding number of packet flow contexts in the second packet control unit.

  • Publication number: 20090291666
Abstract: The application relates to charging of traffic from terminals and in particular of charging of traffic from GPRS mobile terminals which are roaming in a visited PLMN (not claimed). According to the applicant's acknowledged prior art, either the traffic passes the home PLMN or the Home Operator relies on the Visited Operator to generate the CDRs to be used by the Home Operator for billing. Whereas the first solution leads to tromboning and inefficient traffic routing, the second solution calls for a strong trust relationship between the Home and the Visited Operators. The present invention circumvents both problems in that the terminal generates a traffic counting information and sends it to the Visited Network. The Visited Network generates a traffic counting record comprising the traffic counting information from the terminal and traffic counting information from the Visited Network. The traffic counting record is subsequently sent to the Home Network.

  • Patent number: 7443822
Abstract: A method for multihop packet trasmissions in a wireless network involves establishing a multihop route through the wireless network. After establishment of the multihop route, transmission protocol parameter are altered to minimize delays for transmissions over the multihop route and at least one packet is transmitted over the multihop route according to the altered transmission protocol parameters. In a first embodiment, the altering of the transmission protocol parameters includes setting a NAV value at each node of the multihop route for a duration of the packet transmissions over the route. In an alternative embodiment, multihop packets are assigned a higher QoS value.

  • Patent number: 7376104
Abstract: A re-selection method reduces time needed to switch a packet data session from a first packet data channel in one cell to a second packet data channel in another cell. While the mobile station is engaged in a packet data session on the first packet data channel, it monitors the channel quality of control channels in adjacent cells. During the packet data session, the mobile stations reads at least part of the broadcast information on the adjacent control channels before the re-selection decision is made and identifies potential re-selection candidates. When certain predetermined criteria are met, one or more of the adjacent control channels are identified as potential re-selection candidates and the mobile station switches to a new packet data channel in the selected cell. Because the mobile station has previously read the broadcast information in the selected cell, it can immediately acquire service of the new packet data channel.

  • Patent number: 7092381
Abstract: A communication network comprises a broadcast teleservice message center generating broadcast teleservice messages. The broadcast teleservice message center is connected to a circuit-switched network over an interface that uses a first messaging protocol. The broadcast teleservice message center includes an interworking function to connect the broadcast teleservice message center to a packet-switched network over an interface that uses a second messaging protocol. Broadcast teleservice messages transmitted over said first interface to mobile terminals having service with the said circuit-switched network are converted by the interworking function to a format specified by the second messaging protocol for delivery over the packet-switched network to mobile terminals having service with the packet-switched network.
