    Abstract: Embodiments can disclose a method of managing usage of a workstation. The method can include: performing a desktop management sequence; performing a start-up sequence; displaying a login graphic on a screen of a monitor of the workstation; receiving first login information from a user; validating the first login information to check if the user is authorized to use the workstation; if the user is authorized to use the workstation, performing an autolaunch sequence, where performing the autolaunch sequence can include starting one or more pervasive computer applications; checking to see if the one or more pervasive computer application is active; if at least one first application of the one or more pervasive computer applications is not active, restarting the at least one first application of the one or more pervasive computer applications; receiving one or more instructions to logout from the user; and closing the one or more pervasive computer applications.     Abstract: An adaptive liquid crystal lens system comprising a first substrate assembly, a second substrate assembly having a continuous phase profile, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first and second substrate assemblies. The first substrate assembly includes a first transparent substrate, an alignment layer, and a first conductive layer. The first conductive layer is disposed on the bottom surface of the first transparent substrate and adjacent to the top surface of the alignment layer. The second substrate assembly includes a second transparent substrate, a lens having a grooved surface, and a second conductive layer. The second conductive layer is a continuous layer adjacent to the lens. The liquid crystal layer is received in the grooves of the lens, and is adjacent to the bottom surface of the alignment layer. The alignment layer causes the liquid crystal material in the liquid crystal layer to be in a homeotropic state.

    Abstract: 9-dihydro-13-acetylbaccatin III, one of the chemicals obtained from Taxus canadensis is used to produce, inter alia, 10-decetylbaccatin III, a useful intermediate for the preparation of paclitaxel and analogues thereof The 9-dihydro-13-acetylbaccatin III is converted into the 10-deacetylbaccatin III by a simple three step process involving (a) replacement of the C-7 hydroxyl group of tho 9-dihydro compound with a protecting group, (b) the oxidizing of the C-7 protected compound to produce a C-9 ketone, and (c) the deprotecting of the C-9 ketone to produce 10-deacetylbaccatin III.

    Abstract: A composition of matter and method for inducing the rapid strengthening of damaged structures (e.g., buildings, bridges, dams, etc.) by reducing the application and curing times without the need to apply heat and pressure. The composition of matter comprises a strengthening fabric and a bonding agent which may be cured with ultraviolet light, such as sunlight, in less than about 30 min. The strengthening fabric comprises fibers chemically compatible with the bonding agent, and oriented to allow the bonding agent to quickly diffuse through the fabric.
