  • Patent number: 8391932
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus providing plural wireless transceivers within a desired power budget and associated methods. A plurality of wireless communication modules, each having a lower-power state and a higher-power state are provided, drawing power from a common source. Arbitration is performed to control which of the plurality of wireless communication modules are in the higher-power state, thereby controlling total power delivered by the power source to the plurality of wireless communication modules.

  • Publication number: 20120284385
Abstract: A method and apparatus for maintaining a communication link through a NAT or other boundary device. Keep-alive messages (keep-alives) are transmitted and received by the boundary device to maintain the link therethrough. Address information of a keep-alive purports that keep-alive has traversed or is to traverse a predetermined portion of the communication link, such as a wireless “over the air” portion. However, the keep-alive is inhibited from traversing the predetermined portion. This may be accomplished by one or more of: spoofing the origin of the keep-alive such that it only appears to have traversed the predetermined portion; and causing the keep-alive to be discarded before traversal of the predetermined portion. Discard may be facilitated by configuration of the TTL field of the keep-alive or by use of a filtering device.

  • Publication number: 20120203909
Abstract: A method and system for forwarding data between network devices is provided. A routing device receives, identifies and forwards data to a network device coupled to a private network. The routing device may make a determination of how to forward the data, for example by determining which of several delivery mechanisms to use. The network device may be also associated with a public network via a public network device identifier (PNDI). The PNDI may include a public IP address of the routing device, a public first port number such as a destination port number, and optionally a public second port number such as a source port number, the combination of public IP address and public port number(s) being unique to the network device.

  • Patent number: 8228848
Abstract: Provided is a method and apparatus for facilitating push communication from a first network to a target device of a second network, the second network comprising a packet service network such as a GPRS core network. A private IP address, usable for addressing the target device when the packet service network is in an activated state with respect thereto, is retained. Upon receipt of a first message from the first network, indicative of a push communication for the target device, the packet service network is disposed into the activated state, and a second message, addressed to the private IP address, is transmitted. The second message may be generated by a NAT configured to implement micro-port forwarding. The second message may be generated by a representative device of the second network, configured to receive the first message via a NAT in response to a query generated by the representative device.

  • Publication number: 20120099430
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for managing communications of a wireless device in a wireless communication system based on network traffic level, and a wireless device comprising a control system configured to evaluate a network traffic level. The wireless device may be configured to transmit data, such as delay-tolerant data, based upon the network traffic level, for example transmitting data only under low traffic conditions. Deferring delay-tolerant communications may result in lower peak traffic conditions in the network. Evaluating the network traffic level may comprise measuring chip energy over total energy (Ec/Io), monitoring data on shared control channels such as HS-SCCH of a HSDPA system, inferring power allocated to channels by a dynamic power allocation scheme, or other methods.

  • Publication number: 20120023257
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for network port and network address translation. Several problems with limited addressability may occur when transmitting data packets between a terminal in a first network and a terminal in a second network that is outside the first network. Data forwarding rules are used to define if and how identifiers of data packets to be forwarded between the two networks correlate with each other. According to embodiments, a data forwarding rule includes a first identifier associated with the first network and a second identifier associated with the second network, wherein each identifier has two parts: a source address and source port number corresponding to a source network node, and a destination address and destination port number corresponding to a destination network node.

  • Publication number: 20110287740
Abstract: The present invention provides method, apparatus and computer program product for facilitating verification of an identity module, such as associated with a UICC, operatively coupled to a terminal equipment, such as a machine-type communication device. Upon determining that the identity module is in a bonded state, one or more bonding identifiers are read from the identity module and compared with at least a predetermined portion of the terminal equipment identifier, such as an IMEI, stored in the terminal equipment. If at least one of the bonding identifiers corresponds with at least a predetermined portion of the terminal equipment identifier, the identity module and/or the terminal equipment are shifted into predetermined operating conditions. A bonding process may also be performed, whereby the identity module acquires the terminal equipment identifier of currently associated terminal equipment and stores a bonding identifier in identity module memory based thereon.

  • Publication number: 20110199901
Abstract: The present technology provides a method and apparatus for managing communications in a wireless communication system. The method and apparatus evaluate one or more network traffic levels, each network traffic level associated with a respective network sector, and submit access-configuration messages in one or more network sectors when the evaluated network traffic level of a particular network sector has a predetermined relation to the traffic threshold for that particular network sector. The access-configuration messages are configured to shift one or more of wireless devices into one or more predetermined operational conditions. The present technology further provides corresponding wireless devices.

  • Publication number: 20100205260
Abstract: The present invention provides for method, system, and apparatus for facilitating communication between a first set of networked devices, such as client devices, and a second networked device, such as a server. A query message is transmitted from a representative device of the first set of networked devices, to the second networked device. The representative device may be selected in several ways. A response message may be transmitted from the second networked device, the message comprising an indication of devices from the first set of networked devices for which communications are pending. The response message is processed and devices identified in the response message are notified.

  • Publication number: 20080291833
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a queue buffer management method. For one embodiment of the invention, internet protocol data is generated at a data source device. The generated data is communicated to one or more network devices and received at the one or more network devices. Portions of the generated data are selectively deleted based on specified criteria in order to effect improved data flow of the generated data. The specified criteria selected from the group consisting of time since last drop, number of packets since last dropped, packet protocol, packet size and combinations thereof. For one embodiment of the invention, the generated data is communicated via flow controllable interface.
