  • Patent number: 9596596
Abstract: A machine-to-machine communication proxy node is presented herein. The proxy node may be used as a translation device in machine-to-machine communications. For example, if an application server in a packet based network initiates communication with device in a mobile network, the proxy node may be utilized to translate application domain specific device identities coded in the format of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and Uniform Resource Identifier's (URI's) to mobile specific identities such as IMSI and establish communication connection in the mobile network. This identifying of mobile devices may be utilized to replace the commonly used E.164 Mobile Subscriber Integrated Services Digital Network (MSISDN) numbers for identifying mobile devices.

  • Publication number: 20170048695
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system is provided for establishing communication between a wireless communication device (WCD) and one of a plurality of serving nodes (SNs). Each of the SNs is configured to perform mobility management and session management. The WCD determines information that identifies which WCD-SN protocol type is supported by or is being used by the WCD. Each of the WCD-SN protocol types is a version, subset, or variant of a protocol used to support mobility and session management. The identified protocol type is compatible with one or more of the SNs and is not compatible with another one or more of the SNs. The WCD transmits, to a base station controller, a message that includes the information on which WCD-SN protocol type is supported by the WCD or is being used by the WCD. The controller selects, based on the protocol type, one of the SNs.

  • Publication number: 20170048746
Abstract: Various embodiments described herein aim to ensure that user data transmissions (e.g., small data transmissions that are sent using control plane messages) do not become excessive and stay infrequent, thereby reducing the likelihood of a network overload situation. In one embodiment, an admission control function (ACF) for regulating the transmission of uplink user data is implemented in a wireless communication device (WCD) (e.g., a CIoT device). Such a WCD device may receive from a core serving node (CSN) admittance information (AI) (e.g., parameters, such as thresholds, used by the ACF to regulate the uplink traffic) that is used in performing the admittance control.

  • Patent number: 9456315
Abstract: For transmission of multicast data in a cellular network, a gateway (200) allocates a set of multicast sessions (111, 112) to a single Internet Protocol Multicast group (110). For each of the multicast sessions (111, 112), the gateway indicates an Internet Protocol Multicast address of the Internet Protocol Multicast group to one or more radio access network nodes (100) of the cellular network. For each of the multicast sessions (111, 112), the gateway (200) indicates a different identifier to the radio access network nodes (100), e.g., in the form of a Tunnel Endpoint Identifier. The gateway (200) sends multicast data of the multicast sessions (111, 112) in one or more Internet Protocol Multicast data packets addressed to the Internet Protocol Multicast address of the Internet Protocol Multicast group. The multicast data of each of the multicast sessions (111, 112) include the respective identifier to allow identification of the multicast session (111, 112) at the radio access network node (100).

  • Publication number: 20160277961
Abstract: Methods and related systems for controlling congestion in a communication network are provided. The methods generally allow a network node to receive requests for transmission from user equipments, and to selectively, and generally temporarily, block certain requests for transmission if congestion has been determined to be associated with their destination addresses. The methods also generally allow user equipments to be notified of the rejection of their requests for transmission such as to refrain from immediately try to retransmit their requests. By controlling the transmission and processing of requests for transmission when their destination addresses are determined to be congested, congestion at these addresses can be at least mitigated.

  • Publication number: 20160249248
Abstract: The embodiments herein relate to a method in a mobility management node (108) for handling overload in a communications network (100). When overload in the communications network (100) has been detected, the mobility management node (108) receives information indicating at least one blocked IP address to which access should be blocked. The mobility management node (108) receives a communication request message from a UE (101) via a RAN node (105). The communication request message is a request for communication by the UE (101). The mobility management node (108) determines that the UE's (101) request for communication should be rejected when the UE (101) is associated with a blocked IP address.

  • Patent number: 9415703
Abstract: An articulated seating system supports a user seat using a mounting assembly, a fore-aft slide assembly, a swivel assembly and an extension assembly driven by a drive packet having one or more motors or the like. The seat is moved from a secured drive position (e.g., a standard interior vehicle seat position) to an extension position (wherein the seat faces out of a vehicle doorway) and finally to an access position outside the vehicle, facilitating access for a user having limited mobility, strength, etc. Extendible supporting arms engage and enclose guide rollers to allow stable and precise control of lateral and vertical seat movement. Moving between the drive and extension positions, the seat can move through a narrow transition corridor in the motor vehicle. The motors can operate manually to allow securing the seat in the drive position despite power or other failure.

  • Patent number: 9402171
Abstract: A wireless communication device can provide an indication that its registration in a circuit-switched domain of a network is intended only for a short message service that is included in or accompanies a registration request, such as a combined registration for both the CS domain and a packet-switched (PS) domain. The device can also change a conventional order of its domain registrations, e.g., by performing a PS-domain registration before a CS-domain registration, when it will send SMS messages over the PS domain. The device can indicate its intention to use or support for SMS over the PS domain and/or be informed about network support for SMS over the PS domain before the UE attempts a network registration.

  • Publication number: 20160183273
Abstract: A method for providing access feedback when a User Equipment, UE, with an established a connection over multiple accesses towards a Gateway, GW, initiates a set-up of a new service for a service session. The method comprises a step where the GW or a Policy and Charging Rules Function, PCRF, initiates a Quality of Service, QoS, resource reservation as a response of the set-up of the new service initiated by the UE. The GW or the PCRF in the QoS resource reservation selects a first access as present access. The method is particularly characterized in a step where the UE rejects said first access as present access and sends a reject message to the GW, wherein the GW or the PCRF as a result of the reject message initiates a new QoS resource reservation selecting a second access as present access.
