  • Patent number: 6024836
Abstract: A process and device for producing a pulp web utilizes several independently driven aggregates (i.e., discrete groups) to attain a median web dry content of, e.g., 60%. The number of driven aggregates may depend upon an initial wet strength of the wet pulp web. The relationship is such that when the initial wet strength is relatively high, the number of drier groups is small and when the initial wet strength is relatively low, the number of drier groups is large. However, each drier group includes only a few drier cylinders. The first drier group may include either one or two cylinders, and each subsequent drier group may include at least one drier cylinder more than the adjacent upstream drier group.

  • Patent number: 5922128
Abstract: In a device for the coating of a running web of paper or cardboard, provisions are that in a press gap formed between two rolls a coating substance applied in a very small quantity on the surface of the one roll is first pressed on the web leaving a very thin coat on the web which, however, covers all spots including the "mounds" of microroughness. Next, the second coat can be applied and dosed on the still moist first coat with the usual means. In the process, the first coat is preferably dosed on the shell of the first roll, by means of the peripheral grooves of a rotary doctor. The same may be performed also as regards the second coating on the web.

  • Patent number: 5848756
Abstract: A method and device for the winding up of a moving web of paper (9) on a reel spool (11), as large a part as possible of the developing wound roll (12) having a high degree of winding hardness (WH), characterized by the fact that a relatively soft intermediate layer is formed between the wound roll (12) of high winding hardness and the winding core (11). This is achieved in the manner that, during a short initial phase of the winding process, it is ensured that the winding hardness (WH) is relatively slight in the innermost layers of the wound roll (12), whereupon an immediate transition to a relatively high winding hardness (WH) is effected which is being substantially maintained during the rest of the winding-up process. Alternately, the relatively soft intermediate layer can also be created in the manner that the reel spool (11A-11D) has a soft covering (41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47) on a metal reel spool body (40).

  • Patent number: 5683509
Abstract: Several embodiments of an apparatus for applying a liquid or pasty medium e.g. a coating medium onto a moving material web of paper or board are disclosed. All embodiments include a first flexible endless loop belt having an inner surface that passes in contact with a sliding surface of a concave pressing shoe and an outer surface which contacts and moves a web through a press nip. In some embodiments, there is an opposing roll rotating along with the endless belt through the nip. Various devices can apply liquid or pasty medium onto the surface of the belt or the surface of the opposing roll. In an alternate apparatus, there are two counter rotating flexible endless belts which form the press nip between them through which the web is guided. The belts are pressed against each other by elongate guiding surfaces of respective pressing shoes inside the loops of the belts. These embodiments provide a longer length nip in the web travel direction to avoid film splitting during coating of the material web.

  • Patent number: 5562261
Abstract: There is provided a coiling machine for coiling a continuous paper web having two large rolls that form a coil bed for uptake of a paper coil. The space bounded by the large rolls and the coil is formed as a pressure-tight chamber that has a compressed air connection. Particularly for the present invention, one of the two large rolls has a jacket that is essentially more intensely deformable than the jacket of the other roll and, thus, one large roll is softer than the other large roll. The upper vertex of the softer large roll is located lower than the upper vertex of the harder large roll. The web guidance is configured for one embodiment of the coiling machine such that the web is introduced from below, and between the two large rolls, to wind around the softer large roll. For another embodiment of the coiling machine, the web is introduced through a pressing gap between one of the large rolls and the coil.
