  • Patent number: 8396018
Abstract: A system and method for efficiently communicating messages over a low-rate channel between multiple devices in a system for wireless communication of uncompressed video is disclosed. The method includes various control bits in a beacon control field of a beacon frame to improve the efficiency of the beacon processing, thereby reducing beacon processing time and size of the beacon frame itself. The transmitting device can use one or more of the various control bits to indicate whether there are changes in various MAC payload information fields. The receiving station can use one or more of the control bits to eliminate the need to parse one or more MAC payload information fields whose values have not changed from the previous beacon frame.

  • Patent number: 8300661
Abstract: Method and system for transmission of uncompressed video information from a sender to a receiver over wireless channels are disclosed. For example, according to one embodiment, when channel conditions (e.g., noise or interference) worsens, one or more least significant bits (LSB) of pixel data are not transmitted to save bandwidth for more efficient transmission. Furthermore, the remaining one or more of the most significant bits (MSB) of the pixel data are transmitted with coding and/or modulation schemes that provides extra error protection, relative to what is needed in regular channel conditions.

  • Patent number: 8289940
Abstract: A system and method for wireless communication over multi-rate channels are disclosed. One embodiment of the system includes source and destination devices that use first and second channels under a contention-based protocol. The first channel is directional with a first frequency and a first range. The second channel is omni-directional with a second frequency and a second range. The second frequency is lower than the first frequency, and the second range is greater than the first range. The source device may send the destination device a request for data transmission via the first channel over the second channel. The destination device may send the source device an approval for the data transmission over the second channel. The source device may further transmit an acknowledgment (ACK) of the approval over the second channel upon receiving the approval to prevent other devices in the system from contending for data transmission.

  • Patent number: 8259647
Abstract: A system and method for performing medium access control in a system for wireless communication of uncompressed video is disclosed. In one aspect, the method includes communicating a control initiation request message during a contention based period of a superframe period. The control initiation request message contains information allowing a device coordinator to determine a reserved time slot for communication of the requested message exchange. The requested message exchange is then performed in a non-contentious environment, thereby limiting collisions of contention based messages. The control initiation procedure and subsequent message exchanges take place on a low-rate channel. Transmission on the low-rate channel is time division duplexed with a high-rate channel, where transmission at any one time can take place on either the high-rate or the low-rate channel.

  • Patent number: 8243823
Abstract: A method and system for communication uncompressed video over a wireless communication medium is provided. Pixels in an uncompressed video frame are grouped into groups of pixels for wireless transmission from a transmitter to a receiver, wherein the neighboring pixels in each group possess (have) high spatial correlation. Upon receiving the pixel groups, the receiving station reconstructs the video frame from the received pixel groups, wherein upon detecting an erroneous pixel in a group, information from one or more neighboring pixels in that pixel group are used in place of the erroneous pixel. Further, FEC encoding is utilized recovering bit-errors.

  • Publication number: 20120127937
Abstract: Reducing latencies for content protection in audio/video networks includes reserving a wireless channel for a time period to accommodate control message exchange for content protection in data communication between a wireless transmitter and wireless receiver over a wireless channel. The control message exchange includes wirelessly transmitting a control request message from the transmitter for content protection to the receiver, and transmitting a control response message from the receiver to the transmitter in reply. Reserving the wireless channel includes reserving the wireless channel for a time period that accommodates the control message exchange. The time period includes a single transmission opportunity period for communication on the wireless channel, to reduce latency for the control message exchange between the transmitter and receiver.

  • Patent number: 8179805
Abstract: Wireless communication between a first transmitter and a first receiver for a new transmission is established on the same wireless data channel used for ongoing transmission between a second transmitter and a second receiver. This is achieved by determining if the second receiver can receive signals from the first transmitter, and determining if the first receiver can receive signals from the second transmitter. If the second receiver cannot receive signals from the first transmitter, and the first receiver cannot receive signals from the second transmitter, then a new transmission is performed from the first transmitter to the first receiver by spatial reuse of the wireless data channel at least partially concurrently with the ongoing transmission on the data channel.
