  • Patent number: 9015988
Abstract: A visual attractant for attracting a target insect include a substrate having a pixelated pattern portion defined by a plurality of blocks having a characteristic dimension that is within an order of magnitude of the size of the target insect. The plurality of blocks are colored to be highly reflective in a wavelength range selected to attract the target insect. A background portion is lighter in color than the pixelated pattern, to contrast sharply therewith. The blocks are clustered on the substrate such that most of the plurality of blocks define one or more irregular elongate streaks on the substrate. The pixelated pattern may be applied to a strip or to a pillar device, which may be adhesive.

  • Publication number: 20140327327
Abstract: A magnetic suspension planar motor comprises a structure of superconductor excitation. A primary base plate is in a shape of board. Armature windings are fixed on an air gap side of the primary base plate. A secondary base plate in a secondary structure is evenly divided into 2 h*2 h magnet cells. 2 h2 superconducting magnets are respectively fixed in the magnet cells on the secondary base plate, which resembles a checkerboard pattern. The superconducting magnets are adjacent to each other, neither in a horizontal direction nor in a vertical direction. The superconducting magnets are magnetized parallelly, and magnetization directions of the superconducting magnets are perpendicular to a surface on an air gap side of the secondary base plate. The superconducting magnets in a same row or column have same magnetization directions, and the superconducting magnets in adjacent rows columns have contrary magnetization directions. A cooling container shields all of the superconducting magnets.

  • Publication number: 20140252888
Abstract: A permanent magnet synchronous planar motor with a structure of concentric winding comprises a primary structure, a secondary structure, and an air gap. Armature windings in the primary structure of the permanent magnet synchronous planar motor are fixed on an air gap side of the primary base plate in a shape of board, wherein the air gap side is defined as a side adjacent to the air gap. The armature winding of each phase comprises a plurality of concentric rectangular coils. The rectangular coils are connected in series in turn from inside to outside, and winding directions of the two adjacent rectangular coils are opposite. A distance Lc between center lines of two opposite sides of each of the rectangular coils and the polar distance ?m of the permanent magnet in the secondary structure have a relationship as follows. Lc=(2k+1)?m, wherein k is a natural number.

  • Patent number: 8813419
Abstract: A trap (100, 100?) for pestiferous insects, such as stink bugs and the like, that takes advantages of innate behavioral characteristics of the target insect. The trap includes a lid (140) defining an entry aperture (170), an entry cone (110, 110?) on one side of the entry aperture, a vane assembly (160) on an opposite side of the vane assembly, and an entrapment chamber (102) that releasably engages the lid. A collar (120, 120?) on the entry cone facilitates insects dropping into the trap and prevents insects from exiting the trap after dropping in.

  • Patent number: 8677677
Abstract: An insect trap and lighting device for an insect trap suitable for trapping light-attracted insects, in particular indoor nuisance insects that overwinter indoors, including true bugs, lady beetles, and flies. The lighting device may be attached to the base or the top of the trap, and includes light-emitting elements that are directed towards the trap, and are configured to lure target insects toward the trap entryway. In an embodiment, the trap includes an entrapment chamber with an internal cone with an opening at both ends, and a collar over a distal end. A vanes assembly extends toward entryways. In an embodiment, the light fixture comprises a cap that fits over the trap and directs light into the trap through the entrapment chamber wall. The lighting elements may be selected to emit light in a narrow band selected to attract the target insect.

  • Patent number: 8677678
Abstract: An insect trap (100) includes an entrapment chamber (110) with an entry structure (140) over one open end. The entry structure includes (i) a lid (142) with a central aperture (144) and one or more peripheral apertures (146); (ii) a tapered guide (150) on one side of the lid, and (iii) a port fixture (160) that extends through the central aperture and engages the tapered guide. The port fixture includes one or more tubular ports (168) that extend through the peripheral apertures, and one or more cartridges (170) that are removably inserted into the tubular ports. The cartridges contain attractant that is exposed to the interior of the attractant chamber when the trap is assembled. The cartridges may be replaced to replenish or replace attractant without removing the entry structure.

  • Patent number: 8663620
Abstract: Provided herein are uses of the Harlequin bug pheromone, murgantiol, alone or in a synergistic combination with at least one other stink bug attractant, such as methyl (2E,4E,6Z)-decatrienoate or methyl (2E,4Z)-decadienoate, or both, for attracting stink bugs such as the brown marmorated stink bug in outdoor settings. Stink bug traps comprising murgantiol, or synergistic compositions comprising murgantiol with at least one other stink bug attractant, and methods of using these compositions in traps outdoors are provided. Compositions comprising murgantiol are also described as synergistic combinations of murgantiol with at least one other stink bug attractant.

  • Publication number: 20130318860
Abstract: A reusable trap (100) and a fully disposable trap (200) include two opposing panels or walls (102, 202), each with a patterned adhesive portion (132, 232) on an inner surface. The trap is configured to provide easy access to crawling pests from all sides, and the patterned adhesive portion provides non-adhesive paths deep into the trap, such that crawling pests may venture further into the trap before encountering adhesive, thereby increasing the trapping capacity. The opposed panels or walls are configured to be urged together by the user, for example by stepping on the trap, to encase trapped pests therebetween, avoiding potential harmful exposure to the user during disposal.
