  • Publication number: 20140289840
Abstract: Methods and systems for an integrated solution to the rate based denial of service attacks targeting the Session Initiation Protocol are provided. According to one embodiment, header, state, rate and content anomalies are prevented and network policy enforcement is provided for session initiation protocol (SIP). A hardware-based apparatus helps identify SIP rate-thresholds through continuous and adaptive learning. The apparatus can determine SIP header and SIP state anomalies and drop packets containing those anomalies. SIP requests and responses are inspected for known malicious contents using a Content Inspection Engine. The apparatus integrates advantageous solutions to prevent anomalous packets and enables a policy based packet filter for SIP.

  • Publication number: 20140176116
Abstract: A first instance and a second instance of an oscillating circuit are each formed as part of an integrated circuit and are used to monitor degradation over time of one or more portions of the integrated circuit. The first instance of the oscillating circuit is configured to be coupled to a power source during normal operation of the integrated circuit and the second instance is configured to be decoupled from the power source. Over the lifetime of the integrated circuit, the first instance undergoes degradation from use while the second instance of the oscillating circuit remains unpowered, therefore experiencing essentially no use-related degradation. During a testing operation, the second instance can be used as a reference circuit that accurately quantifies use-related degradation of the first instance of the oscillating circuit and, by extension, one or more portions of the integrated circuit.

  • Publication number: 20140108655
Abstract: Bypassing a load balancer that initially appeared in a multi-message flow from a source machine served by a source intermediary and a target machine served on a target intermediary. One or more original network messages (and perhaps just the first) of the flow arrive from the source intermediary at the load balancer, which selects which machine is to be a destination machine, and it turns out selects the destination machine serviced by the destination intermediary. In response to receiving this message, the destination intermediary instructs the source intermediary to transmit subsequent messages in the flow in a manner that bypasses the load balancer. To facilitate this, the source intermediary may modify addressing of subsequent flow messages from the source machine such that they are rerouted to the destination machine without addressing the load balancer.

  • Patent number: 8396688
Abstract: Impulse noise from nearby or intense electrical sources can disrupt communications over digital subscriber lines (DSL). The characterization of the nature, timing and length of impulse noise sources present on a DSL loop is a critical first step in mitigating the effect of impulse noise on DSL communications. DSL standards provide histograms for impulse length and inter-arrival time of impulses. These histograms can be used to derive the nature, maximum frequency and other statistics related to impulse noise on a DSL line.
