  • Patent number: 11153030
Abstract: A base station broadcasts information to machine type communication (MTC) devices in the coverage area of the base station using multiple transmissions with layered modulation. Each transmission includes a different sequence of bits representing the information. A MTC device receiving the signals for the transmissions at a sufficiently high quality can recover the information by using a high modulation order on one of the transmissions. A MTC device receiving the signals of the transmissions at less than the sufficient quality can receive the information by applying a lower modulation order to multiple transmissions.

  • Patent number: 11153040
Abstract: An origination device (e.g., a base station) dual encodes a first set of data (1) according to a first set of encoding parameters corresponding to channel conditions associated with a first communication link, and (2) according to a second set of encoding parameters corresponding to channel conditions associated with a second communication link. The dual-encoded first set of data is transmitted to a signal forwarding device. The signal forwarding device decodes the dual-encoded first set of data, using decoding parameters that correspond to the second set of encoding parameters, to generate a single-encoded first set of data that is encoded according to the first set of encoding parameters. The signal forwarding device transmits a “single-encoded forwarded signal” to the destination device. The destination device decodes the single-encoded forwarded signal using decoding parameters that correspond to the first set of encoding parameters, which yields the first set of data.

  • Patent number: 11153790
Abstract: An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) calculates an estimated uplink interference caused by the UAV at a neighboring cell based on a downlink signal received from the neighboring cell. Based on the estimated uplink interference, the UAV monitors downlink messages transmitted from the neighboring cell. If the uplink interference experienced by the neighboring cell exceeds an interference threshold, the neighboring cell transmits a downlink message, which includes an uplink interference indicator, to the UAV. Upon receipt of the uplink interference indicator, the UAV transmits a measurement report, including the uplink interference indicator, to the serving cell. In some cases, the serving cell transmits an interface availability message and a handover command to the UAV based at least partially on the measurement report. The serving cell may maintain a mobility history for the neighboring cell, which indicates a history of uplink interference problems and/or UAV handover availability for the neighboring cell.

  • Patent number: 11153027
Abstract: A first transceiver station broadcasts information to machine type communication (MTC) devices in the coverage area of the transceiver station using layered modulation where MTC devices receiving the broadcast above a signal quality threshold can recover the MTC information by applying a high modulation order. MTC devices receiving the broadcast below the quality threshold, recover a portion of the MTC information by applying a lower modulation order and recover the remaining portion of the MTC information transmitted from a second transceiver.

  • Publication number: 20210289581
Abstract: A user equipment, apparatus and method for a user equipment includes receiving, from a network, configuration information indicating whether transmission of a specific uplink signal is possible when the user equipment is in a specific state where an RRC connection of the user equipment is suspended. The specific uplink signal is an uplink signal that the user equipment can transmit when the user equipment is in an RRC connected state. • Patent number: 11122486
Abstract: A neighbonng cell determines that uplink interference from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) exceeds a first threshold at the neighboring cell. The neighboring cell transmits an uplink interference indicator to the UAV. In some examples, the UAV informs its serving cell of the uplink interference experienced by the neighboring cell. The serving cell can utilize information received from the UAV to make handover decisions or scheduling decisions for the UAV that caused the uplink interference. In other examples, the UAV can temporarily refrain from transmitting on at least some of its uplink resources or utilize different uplink resources for uplink data transmissions. In still other examples, the UAV can utilize downlink measurements to select which neighboring base station System Information Block messages should be monitored for an uplink interference indicator.

  • Publication number: 20210274565
Abstract: An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) receives a set of Random Access preambles, determines its UAV status, and selects a Random Access preamble from the set of Random Access preambles. In some cases, the set of Random Access preambles are allocated for use by UAVs and are common to a plurality of neighboring cells. The UAV transmits the selected Random Access preamble to multiple neighboring cells. One of the neighboring cells that received the selected Random Access preamble transmits a Random Access Response to the UAV. The UAV determines which cell sent the Random Access Response, reselects to the cell that sent the Random Access Response, and transmits a Radio Resource Control (RRC) Connection Establishment Request to the reselected cell. Upon completion of a Random Access Channel (RACH) procedure, the reselected cell becomes the serving cell for the UAV.

  • Patent number: 11102794
Abstract: A base station (eNB) determines device-to-device (D2D) transmission parameters for signal transmission over a D2D communication link between a first user equipment (UE) device and a second UE device. The eNB instructs the first UE device to transmit a reference signal that is received by the second UE device. The second UE device reports D2D channel characteristic information indicative of the received reference signal. Based on the D2D channel characteristic information, the base station determines the D2D transmission parameters and provides the parameters to the first UE device.
