Abstract: An electric circuit connected to a thermal switch with three terminals and a method for connecting the switch are realized. In an electric circuit 40 of a common power supply, an external connection wire 27 (first terminal 8) of a thermal switch 10 arranged close to a current limiting resistor 39 is connected to a load side (rectifier circuit 35), the current limiting resistor 39 is connected between the external connection wire 27 (first terminal 8) and an external connection wire 28 (second terminal 21), and an external connection wire 29 (third terminal 22) is connected to the output side of a power supply switch 32. Thus, the current limiting resistor 39 is connected and arranged to an internal resistor unit 18 of the thermal switch 10 in series and to a switch unit 38 (contact) in parallel.

  • Patent number: 8237536
Abstract: Various embodiments include a thermal protector, including the rear end of a movable plate fixed to one end of a resin base and a pair of terminals for connection with an external circuit fixed to the other end thereof. Fixed contacts are formed on the fixed portions of the terminals, and the movable contact of the movable plate is disposed opposed to the fixed contacts. A bimetal element engaged with the center of the movable plate is set to project upward at normal temperature, thus bringing the movable contact into pressure contact with the fixed contacts with prescribed contact pressure. The bimetal element consists of an inversion area wherein the inversion area has no portion overlapping the conduction path area of load current.

  • Publication number: 20120032773
Abstract: A thermal protector has superiority in current responsiveness or thermal responsiveness with a simple configuration that does not need a separate manufacturing step of incorporating a resistor. At a stage of press processing for cutting from an original material, a movable plate body part 16 of a movable plate 4 is partitioned into a narrow-width part 17 and a wide-width part 18 by a slim hole 19. The movable plate 4 is assembled to a fixed conductor 2 with columns 9 of an insulator 3, a bimetal 5 is assembled to the movable plate 4, the entire configuration is pressed down by a resinous block 6, and the entire fixing part is fixed by melting tips of the columns 9. The wide-width part 18 serves as a normal movable plate, whereas the narrow-width part 17 serves as a conductor in a normal state and as a resistor against an overcurrent.

  • Publication number: 20120001721
Abstract: A movable plate 8 is partitioned by a slim hole 23 into a narrow-width part 21 and a wide-width part 22. When a contact is closed as a thermal switch 10, the narrow-width part 21 produces heat with an applied current branched via a first terminal 3 and a second terminal 4, which short-circuits both ends of the current limit resistor, and the heat of a bimetal 9 is retained with a small amount of local heat to self-hold the non-restoration state, so that the current limit resistor is quickly cooled down. When the power supply switch is turned off, the heat produced by the narrow-width part 21 is quickly cooled down to restore the thermal switch 10 in a short time. Also when the power supply is again turned on in a short time, the current limit resistor is made to function efficiently.

  • Publication number: 20110164340
Abstract: A first terminal of a protection element of a control unit is connected to a wire between a motor and a switching element, and a second terminal is directly connected to a ground-side wire shared by a controller and the switching element. The protection element has a normal-condition-OFF-type switch including a movable contact and a fixed contact. When an overheating caused by the switching element attains a predetermined temperature or higher, the movable contact and the fixed contact are closed to short-circuit the first terminal and the second terminal, and an electric current is branched to the protection element side to reduce an electric current flowing into the switching element, and the control unit is shifted to a temperature range safe from the overheating caused by the switching element without stopping a cooling system.

  • Publication number: 20110043321
Abstract: Terminal plates 4 and 33 of respectively a first resistance element module having a first polymer PTC 2 and a second resistance element module having a second polymer PTC 32 are caulked above and below a column 37 and fixed to a body casing 13 together with the fixed end of a movable plate 15 interlocked with a bimetal 14 and a second terminal 17. The other terminal plates 5 and 34 respectively of the first and second resistance element modules are arranged with a gap for absorbing the volume expansion caused when each polymer PTC generates heat with respect to the inner wall of the body casing 13. The current for an external load between a first terminal 34-2 and the second terminal 17 is interrupted by externally energizing the second terminal 17 and a second connection unit 5-1, the current interruption is self-sustained.

  • Publication number: 20100308954
Abstract: A movable contact of a movable plate rises and separates from a fixed contact when a bimetal of the thermal protector inversely warps at a predetermined temperature, an electric current between the contacts, namely, an electric current between a movable contact side terminal and a fixed contact side terminal is disrupted, and the disrupted current flows into the polymer PTC, which is then made to produce heat and is thermally expanded to increase a resistance value. A second terminal member on a side opposite to a first terminal member where the polymer PTC is positioned and fixed forms a bowing part, and a gap is formed between an upper inner wall of a housing and the second terminal member.

  • Patent number: 7439834
Abstract: To reduce the internal resistance of small electromagnetic relays of a one-circuit three-contact gap type in order to make it possible to allow large electric currents and at the same time to improve the connection between the fixed contacts and the moveable contacts. Fixed contacts on the fixed terminals are positioned at each apex of an approximate triangle on the upper surface of the insulation base. Moveable contacts are installed on the lower surface of the moveable plate, and are respectively placed in a position which corresponds to each of the fixed contacts. The moveable plate is fastened to the moveable spring whose both ends are held onto the sides of the insulation base, and moves at a specified distance from the fixed contacts due to the pressure of the moveable spring. The construction results in the movable contacts contacting their corresponding fixed contacts at the three positions with uniform contact strength.
