  • Publication number: 20120127402
Abstract: The present invention mechanically protects a surface of a miniaturized liquid crystal display device for mobile phone or the like without deteriorating image quality or increasing a thickness of the device. In the present invention, a liquid crystal display panel has a TFT substrate, a color filter substrate, a lower polarizer adhered to a TFT substrate's lower surface, and an upper polarizer adhered to an color filter substrate's upper surface. A face plate is adhered to the upper polarizer using an acrylic adhesive material cured by ultraviolet rays. For enhancing strength and adhesion of the face plate, corners and side portions of the face plate are chamfered. By making the face plate's profile smaller than the upper polarizer's profile, the adhesion properties of the face plate are enhanced. The present invention protects the liquid crystal display panel's surface without deteriorating image quality or substantially increasing the display device's thickness.

  • Patent number: 8149184
Abstract: The initial color temperature setting can change when a plasma display panel (PDP) is driven for a long period of time. One cause is due to the non-uniform deterioration of red, green, and blue fluorescent materials due to the ultraviolet rays discharged during operation of the panel. Color temperature correction is performed by setting the numbers of discharge pulses for fluorescent materials in accordance with a discharge pulse number correction curve with respect to the cumulative elapsed driven time of the PDP.

  • Publication number: 20110316766
Abstract: A cross section of each divided light guiding plate is formed in a wedge shape, a step is formed at a portion of each divided light guiding plate where LEDs are arranged, and holes used for accommodating the LEDs are formed at the step. A plated face is formed on a lower face of each LED, and is coupled to a wiring substrate through solder. Each LED includes a light-emitting face, a lower frame, and an upper frame. The height of the lower frame of each LED is larger than the height of the upper frame, so that a lower end of the light-emitting face of each LED can be always located higher than a lower end of the divided light guiding plate.

  • Patent number: 8085259
Abstract: The present invention improves the reliability of a display apparatus by suppressing the temperature rise of the display apparatus mounted on a wall. The display apparatus is provided with a wall mount switch to detect a wall mount member if the wall mount member is attached to the rear of the display apparatus. If it is detected by the wall mount switch that the display apparatus is mounted on a wall, the display power supplied to a display unit is set lower than normal by a power controller. This suppresses the temperature rise of the apparatus mounted on a wall.

  • Publication number: 20110292018
Abstract: An area control section individually sets illumination intensity (light control value) of each backlight cell corresponding to each area of the display screen. A spatial filter corrects the light control values so that spatial distribution of the light control values becomes more moderate between adjoining areas. A black area control section sets the minimum value of the light control value based on a “black area” in the screen. A power control section corrects the light control values so that power consumption of the backlight does not exceed a limit value. A shading control section corrects the light control values to relatively lower brightness in the peripheral part of the screen compared to the central part of the screen. A micro-controller switches the operations of the above light control value correcting sections according to an image display mode selected by the user.

  • Publication number: 20110286211
Abstract: A luminaire using LEDs emits illumination light with improved uniformity and allows selection of color temperature and a region from which light is emitted. The illumination light from the LED travels in a light guide plate and is reflected off the inner surface to output to the outside through a diffuser plate. A plurality of LEDs differing in hue is provided. An LED driver unit controls a color temperature of light to be emitted, and generates, for example, illumination light of moderate color such as an orange color. The LED driver unit switches between regions from which light is emitted, thus offering unique illumination effects and using the luminaire as an all-night lamp. The light guide plate is secured to the side opposite to the reflector sheet in order to prevent the fixing member from impairing the light uniformity.

  • Publication number: 20110255029
Abstract: In a liquid crystal display device, two light guide plates are arranged in parallel at a predetermined distance from each other to function as a backlight. The two light guide plates are provided between a liquid crystal display panel and a circuit substrate on which LEDs are mounted. Each of the light guide plates includes a plurality of divided light guide plates. Each of the divided light guide plates is divided into a plurality of light guide plate blocks by grooves. In opposed portions of the two light guide plates, side surfaces of the light guide plates are inclined. Then, a rough surface is formed on the respective inclined surfaces. Because of this shape, light interference easily occurs between the two light guide plates. As a result, it is possible to prevent lowering of brightness in the opposed portions of the two light guide plates.

  • Patent number: 8035780
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device which can prevent the generation of bubbles on an adhesive surface between a liquid crystal display panel and a face plate which protects the liquid crystal display panel is provided. In mounting the face plate on an upper polarizer of the liquid crystal display panel by way of an adhesive material, a picture frame is formed on a periphery of the face plate for enhancing design property. Although the picture frame is formed by printing black ink, a quantity of Si present in the black ink is set to not more than 0.7% and not less than 0.01% thus preventing the generation of bubbles attributed to defective adhesion between the face plate and the adhesive material.

  • Publication number: 20110228196
Abstract: The present invention enables a liquid crystal display device using LEDs as a light source to reduce uneven brightness, increase efficiency of heat discharged from the LEDs, and provide area brightness control. The liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel and a backlight. The backlight includes a light guide panel and a plurality of LEDs arranged on a line. The light guide panel includes a concave portion extending in a longitudinal direction of the light guide panel. A large number of LEDs are placed in the concave portion of the light guide panel. The plurality of LEDs arranged on a line emit light alternately in opposite directions. This configuration allows for uniform brightness distribution without forming a large number of concave portions in the light guide panel. Further, this configuration also allows for area brightness control by controlling a large number of LEDs by group.

  • Patent number: 8018558
Abstract: A face plate on which a frame is formed for improved design aesthetics is bonded to a top surface of an upper polarizer of a liquid crystal display panel with a pressure-sensitive adhesive material. The frame on the face plate is formed from five layers of printing. The pressure-sensitive adhesive material has a three-layer structure having a first pressure-sensitive adhesive member, a base material, and a second pressure-sensitive adhesive member. The first pressure-sensitive adhesive member is formed thicker than the second pressure-sensitive adhesive member, and hence the pressure-sensitive adhesive material can maintain a necessary thickness above the frame formed on the face plate. The reliability of adhesion between the face plate and the liquid crystal display panel is thus improved.
