  • Patent number: 5832248
Abstract: A logic LSI chip includes a CPU, a bus, a memory, and a multiplier. In addition, the logic LSI chip includes a command signal line for transferring, from the CPU to the multiplier, a command regarding a multiplication instruction relating to data read out, while the data is being read out from the memory, so that the multiplier can fetch the data directly from the bus. While the CPU is reading data from the memory, therefore, a command of a multiplication instruction relating to data read out is transferred from the CPU to the multiplier. A bus cycle control circuit receives a state signal from the multiplier when the multiplier is executing a repetitional operation and the bus cycle control circuit responds to the state signal by signalling the CPU to delay issuance of a succeeding command to the multiplier.

  • Patent number: 5799631
Abstract: A variable valve timing mechanism (VVT) for adjusting the valve timing of an intake valve of an internal combustion engine. The mechanism is hydraulically driven by oil pressure. An oil control valve (OCV) is provided on a cylinder head of the engine for controlling oil flow from a pump. A drainage pan in the cylinder head receives oil drained from various mechanical components of the engine. A drain passage drains oil from the control valve to a drain well. The oil in the drainage pan is also led to the drainage well. A wall, or dam, is formed between the drainage pan and the drainage well for restricting the oil flow from the drainage pan to the drainage well. This prevents the drainage well from being flooded when the flow rate of oil into the drainage pan increases dramatically, which improves the performance of the VVT mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5797363
Abstract: A variable valve timing mechanism (VVT) for adjusting the valve timing of an intake valve of an internal combustion engine. The VVT has first and second pressure chambers for receiving oil. An oil control valve (OCV) is provided for controlling oil flow from a pump. Passages are provided for connecting the OCV to the pressure chambers to supply oil to the chambers in a controlled manner. A filter is located in the passage for filtering the oil. The filter is supported in water jacket where coolant flows. The filter is heated by the coolant to decrease the flow resistance of the oil.

  • Patent number: 5769308
Abstract: The composition of a hard-facing welding material to be overlaid onto a cast iron base metal followed by a supercooling treatment for hardening must lie above a line LA in a Schaeffler's structure diagram which is represented by a Cr equivalent and a Ni equivalent. On the other hand, if the base metal is preheated, the carbon precipitation line will be at the Ni equivalent of 34 (LC1), and the Cr equivalent will thus be above 4. However, if the Cr equivalent is above 4, there will occur cracks after welding (examples in which cracks occurred are shown by square marks represented by a in FIG. 1). As a solution, the carbon precipitation line was raised up to the Ni equivalent of 38 without preheating the base metal, and the Cr equivalent of the welding material was made to be 4 or less.

  • Patent number: 5758306
Abstract: This invention relates to a vehicle cruise controller which controls engine output and gear shift position such that a detected vehicle speed is identical to a target vehicle speed. A shift to lower gear is performed when a difference between the target vehicle speed and detected vehicle speed reaches a first predetermined value .alpha..sub.1. A mechanism is provided for estimating a travel resistance of the vehicle, the travel resistance when this difference has reached a second predetermined value .alpha..sub.2 which is less than the first predetermined value .alpha..sub.1, being learnt as a maximum drive torque FB of the engine. A shift to higher gear is made when the estimated travel resistance has become less than this learnt maximum drive torque FB after the shift to lower gear. In this way, gear shift hunting during cruise control when the vehicle is climbing or descending slopes, is suppressed.

  • Patent number: 5748307
Abstract: There is provided an image pickup apparatus excellent in color reproducibility without requiring a complicated circuit. In image pickup operation, a sum pixel signal (S.sub.CCD) output from a color image pickup element (100) is converted into digital sum pixel data (D.sub.CCD) through a sample/hold circuit (102) and an A/D converter (104). The digital sum pixel data is stored and held in a frame memory (106). In image reproduction, an arithmetic operation unit (108) executes an arithmetic processing program in a program memory (110) to read out the sum pixel data (D.sub.CCD) from the frame memory (106). The pixel data are multiplied by predetermined white balance adjustment coefficients, and color difference signals (B-Y) and (R-Y) of the horizontal lines are calculated.

  • Patent number: 5585914
Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring a temperature of a high temperature liquid contained in a furnace. An optical fiber covered with a metallic tube is inserted through a passageway inside a nozzle arranged on a furnace wall of the furnace. The nozzle communicates with an interior of the furnace containing the liquid, and gas is supplied into the passageway inside the nozzle to prevent the nozzle from clogging. The metal-covered optical fiber is fed through the passageway inside the nozzle into the liquid such that spectral light radiated from the liquid enters a tip of the metal-covered optical fiber and is propagated therealong. The temperature of the liquid is determined by a radiation thermometer, coupled to the metal-covered optical fiber, based on the spectral light propagated along the metal-covered optical fiber.

  • Patent number: 5583744
Abstract: A battery pack to be externally attached to a system body of a portable computer contains a plurality of batteries in two rows. A groove is formed on that portion of the top of the battery pack which correspond to the region between the rows of batteries. A hinge unit for swingably supporting a display unit is provided on the rear end of the system body of the computer in a manner such that it is partially housed in the groove of the battery pack. With this arrangement, the computer is reduced in thickness. The battery pack, which is connected to the rear end of the system body, is rotatable relatively to the system body. During use of the computer, therefore, a keyboard can be slightly declined toward a user by rotating the battery pack to raise the rear end of the system body.
