  • Publication number: 20110252371
Abstract: A user can select an instant on power key to cause a computer to quickly boot an instant on O.S. with greater capability than previously afforded for fast boot. The instant on O.S. can access the “C” drive and the user can choose the image for a home icon of a UI. The UI can present icons of function categories in a sequence determined by the frequency with which the user selects the categories. One click file sharing is provided, as is secure login in the instant on mode, if the user so desires.

  • Patent number: 7996035
Abstract: An impedance matching circuit for a radio receives antenna signals and has its matching elements, such as capacitors, progressively switched into the circuit, with the matching element configuration resulting in the highest RSSI being subsequently used until a succeeding test or antenna impedance change. The effect of the matching circuit is accounted for in the transmitter calibration routine so that the matching circuit works for both half duplex and full duplex.

  • Publication number: 20110080343
Abstract: Wireless computer mouse operation may be provided by receiving a user detection signal from a sensor of the wireless computer mouse to determine the presence of a user. In one embodiment, an operation mode of the wireless computer mouse may be determined by a controller based, at least in part, on the user detection signal. • Patent number: 7873352
Abstract: A fast roaming (handoff) service is provided for a WLAN infrastructure. A given mobile station (STA) obtains a pairwise master key (PMK) when it associates with an access point (AP) in the infrastructure. A neighbor graph identifies prospective APs to which the STA may then roam. At initialization, preferably the neighbor graph is fully-connected (i.e., each AP is assumed to be connected to every other AP). The PMK (obtained by the STA initially) is shared proactively with the neighbor APs as indicated in the neighbor graph. Thus, when the STA roams to a neighbor AP, because the PMK is already available, there is no requirement that the STA initiate a real-time request to an authentication server to re-associate to the new AP.

  • Patent number: 7860167
Abstract: An efficient and non-iterative 3D post processing method and system is proposed for mosquito noise reduction, block localization and correction in DCT block-based decoded images. The 3D post processing is based on a simple classification that segments a picture in multiple regions such as Edge, Near Edge, Flat, Near Flat and Texture regions. The proposed technique comprises also an efficient and shape adaptive local power estimation for equivalent additive noise and provides simple noise power weighting for each above cited region. Temporal filtering configurations using Minimum Noise Variance Criterion are proposed for reducing temporally varying coding artifacts. A Minimum Mean Square Error or Minimum Mean Square Error-like noise reduction with robust and effective shape adaptive windowing is utilized for smoothing mosquito and/or random noise for the whole image, particularly for Edge regions.

  • Patent number: 7616966
Abstract: An automatic channel selection (ACS) process enables an access point to determine a best channel available, i.e., the channel with a least amount of interference, for it operation. When ACS is enabled, the access point scans frequencies for all neighboring access points and their signal strengths. Based on this data, the access point then determines which frequency is least likely to be interfered with by these other access points. The access point switches itself to this frequency and begins operation. During normal operation, the access point may periodically rescan the air space and reevaluate its current operating channel. Preferably, every neighboring access point has its own channel, and the co-channel interference levels should be low enough so that there is a maximum coverage and high throughput for the network. If these characteristics cannot be achieved, the access point may then adjust its power automatically to reduce the interference level in the network.

  • Patent number: 7453818
Abstract: Potential forwarding loops in bridged networks are detected. A switch monitors the movement of packet addresses in the forwarding table to different ports. If the port associated with an address changes multiple times in a short time duration, then a potential forwarding loop is detected, and a loop corrector is notified to take appropriate action to correct the problem, such as, but not limited to changing the state of a port to a blocking state or disabling an interface, etc. If there are multiple movements outside the short time duration, they may be correct movements adjusting to the actual reconfiguration of a network, and thus, these movements are effectively filtered out of consideration.

  • Patent number: 7418149
Abstract: A non-iterative 3D processing method and system is disclosed for generic noise reduction. The 3D noise reducer is based on a simple conversion of the five types of noise to equivalent additive noise of varying statistics. The proposed technique comprises also an efficient temporal filtering technique which combines Minimization of Output Noise Variance (MNV) and Embedded Motion Estimation (EME). The proposed temporal filtering technique may be furthermore combined with classical motion estimation and motion compensation for more efficient noise reducer. The proposed technique comprises also a spatial noise reducer which combines Minimum Mean Squared Error (MMSE) with robust and effective shape adaptive windowing (SAW) is utilized for smoothing random noise in the whole image, particularly for edge regions. Another modification to MMSE is also introduced for handling banding effect for eventual excessive filtering in slowly varying regions.
