Patent number: 6323444Abstract: To provide a seat weight measuring apparatus capable of estimating with higher precision the weight and the center of gravity of a passenger on the seat and with reduced cost, a seat weight measuring apparatus is provided. The seat weight measuring apparatus comprises a load cell, a connecting mechanism, which connects a seat and the seat fixing portion of the vehicle body, and a transmitting mechanism which transmits the action of the seat weight on the connecting mechanism to the load cell. In the transmitting mechanism and the connecting mechanism, arms are pivotally supported by horizontal pivots so that the arms can pivot about the pivots. Actions according to the pivotal movements of the arms are transmitted to a load cell. Loads on the front side portion and the rear-side portion of the seat are each measured by one center load cell.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2000Date of Patent: November 27, 2001Assignee: Takata CorporationInventor: Hiroshi Aoki

Patent number: 6323443Abstract: To provide a seat weight measuring apparatus capable of improving the safety against an abnormal force acting on the seat. A seat weight measuring apparatus (5) includes seat connecting mechanisms (17) arranged between seat fixing portions (19) of a vehicle and a seat (3), and load sensors (13) which detect the seat weight loaded on the mechanisms. It further includes displacement restriction mechanisms (25) that restrict the displacement of the seat (3) relative to the seat fixing portions (19). When the load sensors receive a force exceeding a predetermined level, the excess load is borne by the displacement restriction mechanisms instead of the load sensors.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1999Date of Patent: November 27, 2001Assignee: Takata CorporationInventors: Hiroshi Aoki, Shigenori Maruyama

Patent number: 6264236Abstract: An occupant restraint system which, when an occupant on a vehicle seat is a child, can change the operational mode of an airbag device to a suitable mode. When the signal from an occupant estimating unit is not ON, an inflator is not actuated even when the output signal of an emergency detecting device is ON. A weight estimating portion determines whether the value of the load applied to the seat detected by weight sensors exceeds a threshold Y. An occupant condition estimating portion determines that the occupant is a child when the tension switch detects a tension exceeding a predetermined value and then sets the output signal of the occupant estimating unit to be OFF. When the tension switch does not detect a tension exceeding the predetermined value and the weight estimating portion determines that the load detected by the weight sensors does not exceed a threshold, it is determined that the occupant is a child and the output signal of the occupant estimating unit is set to be OFF.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1999Date of Patent: July 24, 2001Assignee: Takata CorporationInventor: Hiroshi Aoki

Patent number: 6201480Abstract: A seat weight measuring apparatus that simplifies the circuit configuration of the load sensors to reduce the circuit costs and which, when the load sensors fail, immediately detects the failure of the load sensors, thereby improving the reliability. In the case where four load sensors are arranged at four locations, for example front and rear on both sides, of the bottom of the automotive seat, the seat weight measuring apparatus includes two pairs of load sensors, a detection circuit for detecting a difference between outputs from the two antiphase-connected pairs of load sensors, and a seat weight calculator for calculating the weight of the automotive seat based on an output from the detection circuit. This can simplify the circuit configuration and eliminate problems of circuit costs and reliability.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1999Date of Patent: March 13, 2001Assignee: Takata CorporationInventor: Hiroshi Aoki

Patent number: 6164694Abstract: An airbag device has an inflator to charge a small amount of gas into an airbag so as to inflate the airbag at a low internal pressure when an occupant is in proximity to the airbag device, and charges a large amount of gas into the airbag so as to inflate the airbag largely when the occupant is apart from the airbag device sufficiently. When an ignition signal is generated, a first igniter is fed currency first of all to generate a gas from a gas generating agent within a first compartment 6 and an airbag 1 begins to expand. When an occupant P is in proximity to the airbag device, the airbag 1 contacts with the occupant P immediately after starting to expand and a distance between a static pad 12 and an opposite pad 20 increases slowly. A static capacity detected in a static capacity detecting circuit 30 decreases slowly. When the static capacity exceeds a threshold value at a point when 10 millisecond have passed after an input of the ignition signal, a second igniter 9 is triggered.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 1999Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: Takata CorporationInventors: Ryoichi Yoshida, Hiroshi Aoki

Patent number: 6145875Abstract: An igniter for an air bag device includes first and second backup power circuits having first and second condensers, respectively, the first condenser having a capacity greater than that of the second condenser, a first ignition device formed of a first squib and a first ignition switch connected in series, a second ignition device formed of a second squib and a second ignition switch connected in series, and a control device connected to the first and second ignition switches and the operating switch for actuating the switches upon receiving an operation signal from a vehicle. Upon receiving the operation signal, the control device actuates firstly the first ignition switch to actuate the first squib by the first condenser of the first backup circuit, and after a predetermined time, secondly the second ignition switch and the operating switch to actuate the second squib by the first and second condensers of the first and second backup circuits. Thus, the capacity of the second condenser can be lowered.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1998Date of Patent: November 14, 2000Assignee: Takata CorporationInventor: Hiroshi Aoki
