  • Patent number: 6052347
Abstract: An optical disk is provided with multiple data recording areas and optimum power control (OPC) areas encompassing each data recording area. The disk is formatted as a modified constant linear velocity (MCLV or ZCLV) disk. Test recordings are made in each OPC area and an optimum recording power distribution is determined based on the test recordings, according to radius and optimum recording power, at each OPC area. Optimum recording power for any track of a data recording area on the optical disk is determined by applying a radius of that track to the optimum recording power distribution which is linear in nature. Alternatively, the test recordings can be made in either a single or a reduced number of OPC areas based upon an innermost OPC area that, because of the ZCLV format, has recording areas maintained at linear velocities equivalent to all areas within each subsequent data recording area. Therefore, test recordings can be made in a single or reduced number of OPC areas.

  • Patent number: 5536777
Abstract: A polyethylene composition which is useful in insulations and joints of extra-high voltage power cables, and in which a cross-linking agent, comprising an organic peroxide subjected to purification processing, and an antioxidant, are blended, wherein the cross-linked composition has a dielectric loss tangent (tan.delta.) of less than or equal to 0.07% at a temperature of 90.degree. C. and under an electric field stress of 20 kV/mm. This polyethylene composition exhibits little dielectric loss, even at high temperatures or high electric field stresses, and is optimally employed in insulations and joints for extra-high voltage power cables of 275 kV or more.

  • Patent number: 5517207
Abstract: A method and a system for driving an electro-luminescence display panel of a matrix type has a compensation pulse applied to all the cells prior to or in the front of a pedestal pulse on every frame cycle. The level of the compensation pulse is higher than the pedestal pulse but low enough not to light the cells by itself. The duration of the compensation pulse is long enough to saturate charge polarization in the EL material of the cell, as a dielectric, at the applied voltage. Therefore, brightness of the lighted cell is kept constant regardless of the number of lighted cells on the same data electrode. Each of two power-receiving terminals of push-pull scan drivers is connected to a pulse generator respectively. One of the two power-receiving terminals may be floated from the pulse generator while data pulse is applied to the data electrodes.

  • Patent number: 4858110
Abstract: A parallel data processor is disclosed, in which a plurality of fundamental computing elements each comprising a computer and a memory are connected in a two-dimensional lattice configuration, each of said fundamental computing elements being operated by an identical instruction provided by a single control section, and in which said each fundamental computing element is provided with a shift register having ability of data transmission to the memory in said element and of further data transmission, which is asynchronous to operation in said element, between the adjacent fundamental computing elements, said latter data transmission being conducted concurrently to the operation in said element.

  • Patent number: 4582767
Abstract: A lead storage battery comprising a battery casing has a first case member (such as a tray) and a second case member (such as a cover) in a superposed relation. The tray has a protruding part for mounting one external terminal, and the cover has a protruding part for mounting the other external terminal. The tray and cover have recessed regions for receiving the protruding parts for mounting the external terminal of an opposing case member of the tray and the cover. The tray has a recessed region for holding a safety valve so that the safety valve is covered by the cover when the tray and the cover are superposed. A small hole is formed in the recessed region such that the small hole is connected with an interior of the battery casing.

  • Patent number: 4470345
Abstract: Apparatus for peeling onion skins from the bulbs of onions comprising conveyor means for transporting the onion bulbs from a supply thereof and a roller conveyor including a plurality of rotatable cutters. The onion bulbs are supplied by the conveyor means to the roller conveyor with a flatwise planar orientation which prevents piling of the onion bulbs on one another. The rotatable cutters slit the skins of the onion bulbs, while simultaneously compressed air is blown onto the surface of the onion bulbs by the discharge parts of air nozzles coupled to a source of compressed air. Means are provided for swinging the discharge parts of the nozzles so that the air impinges on the width of the rotatable cutters.
