  • Publication number: 20170286084
Abstract: In embodiments of RFID-based device wireless updates, a RFID reader interrogates a RFID tag of a device, and receives a response that indicates device software is not a latest version. The RFID reader communicates wireless network connection information and a file location of a device software update to the RFID tag of the device, and RFID tag memory maintains the file location and the wireless network connection information that is associated with a wireless network. The RFID reader communicates a power-up command to the RFID tag to initiate enabling an interrupt line to power the device on. A bootloader application executing on the device determines that the device software update is available. The bootloader application then obtains the wireless network connection information and configures the device for communication via the wireless network. The bootloader application also obtains the file location and downloads the device software update via the wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20170286630
Abstract: Disclosed are systems biology-based methods for repositioning known pharmaceutical compounds to new indications, through the identification of network-based signatures. In particular, the invention provides new and useful methods for selecting drugs or combinations of drugs (and preferably previously-approved drugs) for use in new therapeutic indications. Also disclosed are methods for identifying anti-breast tumor initiating cell (TIC)-based therapeutics from within populations of target compounds. In illustrative embodiments, the invention provides methods and computer programs for the repositioning of FDA-approved pharmaceutical compounds to new indications using network-based signature analysis coupled with conventional in vitro and in vivo testing of identified drug candidates. The invention also allows identification of drugs or drug combinations for treating unmet medical needs including, for example, “orphan” diseases.

  • Patent number: 9740894
Abstract: Silent radio frequency identifier (RFID) state and restore back is described herein. An RFID tag enters a silent state by receiving a sleep command from an RFID reader. While the RFID tag is in the silent state, only an awake command will restore back normal operation of the RFID tag. Other received commands or interrogations from the RFID reader are ignored and responses are not transmitted to the RFID reader.

  • Patent number: 9727035
Abstract: A system and method of model predictive control executes a model predictive control (MPC) controller of a subject dynamic process (e.g., processing plant) in a configuration mode, identification mode and model adaptation mode. Users input and specify model structure information in the configuration mode, including constraints. Using the specified model structure information in the identification mode, the MPC controller generates linear dynamic models of the subject process. The generated linear dynamic models collectively form a working master model. In model adaptation mode, the MPC controller uses the specified model structure information in a manner that forces control actions based on the formed working master model to closely match real-world behavior of the subject dynamic process. The MPC controller coordinates execution in identification mode and in model adaptation mode to provide adaptive modeling and preserve structural information of the model during a model update.

  • Publication number: 20170215075
Abstract: In embodiments of hardware verification with RFID-stored build information, a mobile device includes hardware components and a radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag to store build information for hardware verification of the hardware components in the mobile device. A bootloader can interrogate the RFID tag to obtain the build information and compare the build information to current information of the hardware components in the mobile device. The bootloader can then determine whether the current information matches the build information. If the current information does not match the build information, then a message can be displayed on the mobile device indicating that unauthorized hardware is installed in the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20170214150
Abstract: A heat sink is arranged to dissipate heat generated by electronic circuitry, the heat sink comprising an array of spaced cooling elements. Further, an antenna is arranged to transmit and/or receive wireless electromagnetic signals at a carrier frequency, the signals communicating data to and/or from a wireless communications device. The signals are transmitted and/or received in the form of a beam having an axis in a target direction. To enhance the directionality of the beam: the array of spaced cooling elements in the heat sink is arranged to form an electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structure tuned to the carrier frequency used by the antenna; and the antenna is placed relative to the array of cooling elements such that the EBG structure suppresses the propagation of electromagnetic energy in the signals at the carrier frequency in one or more directions other than the target direction.

  • Patent number: 9710048
Abstract: There is described a portable electronic device capable of detecting false wake conditions, and a method thereof. The portable electronic device comprises a sensor circuit and a display. The sensor circuit detects double tap data associated with user input and motion data subsequent to the double tap data within a predetermined time period. The sensor circuit also determines whether the motion data corresponds to at least one criterion associated with non-user input. The display wakes from a sleep state in response to the sensor circuit determining that the motion data corresponds to the at least one criterion. For some embodiments, the sensor circuit includes a motion sensor to detect the motion data and a sensor hub to determine whether the motion data corresponds to the at least one criterion.
