  • Patent number: 4498407
Abstract: A sewing machine has a feed for the workpiece which is to be sewn. A workpiece conveyor performs a skipping feed movement below the workpiece. Above the workpiece a turning device enables the workpiece to be turned about an axis which is coincident with the needle. In order to sew in an edge-parallel manner with an automatic guidance, workpieces made from soft materials with curved or angular seam courses, may be turned responsive to air nozzles directed in acutely-angled manner on to the supporting plate. The air nozzles are arranged tangentially, and in spaced manner, with respect to the needle.

  • Patent number: 4406046
Abstract: A process for the production of a sodium-filled valve in which the sodium is introduced into a hollow valve stem through a filling bore of relatively large diameter and which is sealed through a plug and/or usual welding. Subsequent to the closing off of the filling bore, the hollow inner space is evacuated through a passageway having a small cross-section and is thereafter sealed vacuum-tightly in a vacuum through either welding or soldering. Through the evacuation of the hollow space there is avoided any kind of oxydation of the sodium and thereby any change. Moreover, no froth or foam formation is encountered so as to facilitate the presence of an extremely constant heat transfer.

  • Patent number: 4309389
Abstract: Raw materials containing tantalum or niobium are treated to obtain aqueous solutions containing fluoroacid complexes of niobium or tantalum. These solutions are decomposed by pyrolysis and calcined to obtain pure oxides of niobium or tantalum. The hydrofluoric acid separated during pyrohydrolysis is recovered and reused. A niobium or tantalum-free raffinate solution obtained, on extraction, with the above aqueous solutions contains dissolved metalloids which are recovered as oxides which are deposable waste products.

  • Patent number: 4203928
Abstract: 2-Nitrobenzaldehyde, a valuable chemical intermediate, is produced by treating the alkali metal salt of a 2-nitrophenylpyruvic acid with an alkali metal hypochlorite in an aqueous medium to produce the corresponding 2-nitrobenzylidene chloride which, upon hydrolysis, yields the desired aldehyde. The 2-nitrophenylpyruvic acid starting material is advantageously prepared through the reaction of a 2-nitrotoluene and a diester of oxalic acid in the presence of an alkali metal alcoholate and can be used directly in the subsequent hypochlorite reaction without isolation. The process is industrially attractive in terms of the overall yield, the availability of starting materials, and the ease of the manipulative steps involved.

  • Patent number: 4172164
Abstract: A metal strip is used for elements in a regenerative heat exchanger employed for the exchange of latent and sensible heat from a warm outgoing air stream to a cold ingoing air stream. The strip is placed alternatingly in the form of flat and corrugated sheets to form flow channels for the warm and cold air. The metal strip, for example, an aluminum foil, is coated or laminated at least on one side with a paper-like hydrophillic material. The hydrophillic layer comprises a mixture of cellulose fibers and fibers with olefin hydrocarbons as basis. Furthermore, fungicides can be added to the mixture.
