  • Publication number: 20140375432
Abstract: A radio frequency identification (RFID) system includes a portable RFID reader, and a read infrastructure that includes a distributed read structure, which may be part of a display (such as a shelf) for holding objects. The read structure is used to couple the RFID reader to RFID devices (tabs and/or labels) on or near the structure. The RFID reader and the read structure communicate in a near field or proximity region communication, without any use of a direct ohmic electrical connection. The RFID reader may have an antenna that is configured for near field or proximity communication with a coupler of the read infrastructure. The RFID reader may also have a separate antenna for use in far field communication. The RFID reader may be able to obtain information more efficiently in the near field or proximity mode, allowing information to be received faster and with greater reliability.

  • Patent number: 8915896
Abstract: The illustrative embodiments described herein are directed to a system and method for administering reduced pressure at a tissue site. The apparatus includes a reduced pressure source. The reduced pressure source generates a reduced pressure. The apparatus includes a tube having a plurality of lumens. The plurality of lumens includes at least one collection lumen. The reduced pressure source applies the reduced pressure to the tissue site through the plurality of lumens such that the at least one collection lumen receives fluid from the tissue site. The at least one collection lumen stores the fluid received from the tissue site.

  • Patent number: 8918370
Abstract: A method of dynamic allocation of program libraries to an application server is provided. In addition to a static allocation of libraries to the server at initialization time, libraries can be added to or removed from the set available to a server while that server is active. New libraries are created as resource objects specifying a set of locations from which programs can be loaded. Each library is allocated a ranking which the system can use to identify its place in the loader's search order relative to other libraries. New library resources are dynamically installed and added to a list of available libraries, including the system's pre-defined library of locations, in a position in the loader's search order determined in accordance with the allocated ranking.

  • Patent number: 8918506
Abstract: There is disclosed a system and method for processing requests over an architecture. The architecture may utilize logical partitioning to distribute work load across multiple logical servers in an efficient manager. The system may comprise a router, a directory, at least one logical server, and a wallet server. The router may receive a request from a consumer via the consumer's device and extract a value from the request that identifies the consumer. The router may access the directory, which may contain a map that matches consumers with logical servers, to determine which logical server to forward the request to. The router may then pass the request to the determined logical server. The logical server may process the request by utilizing both generic and network or market specific plug-in processing.

  • Patent number: 8914212
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate generally to notifying a pedestrian of the intent of a self-driving vehicle. For example, the vehicle may include sensors which detect an object such as a pedestrian attempting or about to cross the roadway in front of the vehicle. The vehicle's computer may then determine the correct way to respond to the pedestrian. For example, the computer may determine that the vehicle should stop or slow down, yield, or stop if it is safe to do so. The vehicle may then provide a notification to the pedestrian of what the vehicle is going to or is currently doing. For example, the vehicle may include a physical signaling device, an electronic sign or lights, a speaker for providing audible notifications, etc.

  • Publication number: 20140360202
Abstract: A fuel injector includes pilot and main fuel injectors. The pilot fuel injector includes at least one pilot air swirler and the main fuel injector includes a main air blast fuel injector located between inner main and outer main air swirlers. A first air splitter is located between the pilot and inner main air swirlers and a second air splitter is located between the pilot and inner main air swirlers. The first air splitter has a downstream portion converging to a downstream end. The second air splitter has a downstream portion diverging to a downstream end. The second air splitter downstream end is downstream of the first air splitter downstream end and the ratio of the distance from the first air splitter downstream end to the second air splitter downstream end to the diameter of the second air splitter downstream end is in the range of 0.22 to 0.30.

  • Patent number: 8898715
Abstract: The present invention relates to a content item receiver module and method. The content item receiver module is operative for a content item delivery system, configured to operate in a first and second mode: said first mode operative to drive a display apparatus to display a received content item; said second mode operative for a specified time window to display on a display apparatus a sequence of linked content items in said specified time window, each of said linked content items having a duration less than said specified time window, and to respond to a prompt signal to initiate a display option.

  • Patent number: 8898522
Abstract: A method of automating testing of a first computing system comprises identifying a plurality of system interface elements of a second computing system; determining an untested state at the first computing system of one of the identified plurality of system interface elements; determining the existence of any dependency of the one of the identified plurality of system interface elements upon another of the identified plurality of system interface elements; responsive to a finding of no the dependency, seeking in a repository a system interface element test corresponding to the one of the identified plurality of system interface elements and having an expected output according to a structure of the second computing system; and executing the system interlace element test at the first computing system.

  • Publication number: 20140337408
Abstract: Systems, methods and media are provided for minimizing data downloads. One method includes providing a virtual view of a list of files remotely stored in a cloud storage server. The method also includes detecting a user request for file data associated with a file selected from the virtual view and inspecting a local cache associated with the selected file to determine whether the requested file data already exists in the cache. The method further includes displaying the file data from the cache when it is determined that the cache already includes the file data. When it is determined that the cache does not include the file data, the method also includes generating a client request for the file data, sending it to the server, receiving the requested file data from the server, updating the cache using the file data received from the server; and displaying the requested file data.
