  • Publication number: 20060235729
Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for transforming a biometric template so that each application uses a unique template format. One transformed template cannot be successfully matched to a second template extracted from the same biologic entity unless the second template is transformed so that its format is identical to that of the first template. Thus a template generated in a format corresponding to application A could not be used to authenticate a user for application B because the enrollment database for application B would have a different format than the enrollment database for application A.

  • Publication number: 20060230089
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and hardware for estimating the frequency offset of a signal. The method includes obtaining samples of the signal at at least two instants in time, and utilising the samples in a mathematical equation relating estimated offset frequency to the samples, wherein the mathematical equation is derived based on the premise of a modulating signal with a complex frequency.

  • Publication number: 20060151604
Abstract: A fully automated package identification and measuring system, in which an omni-directional holographic scanning tunnel is used to read bar codes on packages entering the tunnel, while a package dimensioning subsystem is used to capture information about the package prior to entry into the tunnel. Mathematical models are created on a real-time basis for the geometry of the package and the position of the laser scanning beam used to read the bar code symbol thereon. The mathematical models are analyzed to determine if collected and queued package identification data is spatially and/or temporally correlated with package measurement data using vector-based ray-tracing methods, homogeneous transformations, and object-oriented decision logic so as to enable simultaneous tracking of multiple packages being transported through the scanning tunnel.

  • Patent number: 7075513
Abstract: A method and system for manipulating content displayed on a display screen is disclosed. A data processing device has two attached user input controls, such as touch pads, joysticks, and the like. One of the controls may be used for panning (i.e. scrolling up and down and/or left and right) content on the display screen, while the other control may simultaneously be used for zooming in and zooming out of content as it is displayed on the display screen. The zoom and pan increment levels may be smooth or stepped, depending on a user preference, to aid in navigation of the content displayed on the display screen.

  • Publication number: 20060145848
Abstract: A security device includes a mechanism for attaching the security device to an article of merchandise. A circuit module containing a central controller is contained in the security device and monitors the attachment mechanism to sound an audible alarm contained in the security device if the integrity of a sense loop in the attachment mechanism is compromised. A trigger circuit also actuates the audible alarm if the security device approaches the vicinity of a remote security gate. An EAS tag contained in the security device actuates a security gate alarm upon the unauthorized passage of the article of merchandise through the gate. Other sense loops will actuate the audible alarm through the central controller if a switch within the security device is actuated or when an unlocking mechanism or verification device is used on the security device.

  • Publication number: 20060057558
Abstract: The method employs a piece of skin of area greater than 1 cm2 cultured under conditions that maintain its viability and substantially normal structure for sufficient time for topically applied test material to potentially exert an effect. The skin includes the majority of the epidermal layer plus an appropriate amount of supporting dermis. The surface of the skin is partitioned by a surface barrier film into a pattern of isolated regions to which different test materials can be subsequently topically applied in such a way that they do not significantly migrate around the edges of the skin into the culture medium. The effect of the topically applied material on the skin is determined using an appropriate method. In a variant of the method, the temperature of the culture system is maintained at or below about 30° C. to improve the skins viability and maintain a substantially normal structure. The invention encompasses effective topically applied materials identified using the methods described herein.
