  • Publication number: 20200150728
Abstract: The description relates to devices that can include first and second portions. A virtual magnetic hinge assembly can rotationally secure the two portions yet a user can separate the device portions as desired. One example can include a first elongate magnetic hinge assembly encapsulated in a first end of the first portion and a second elongate magnetic hinge assembly encapsulated in a first end of the second portion. The first and second elongate magnetic hinge assemblies can bias the first ends together while allowing the first and second portions to be rotated through a range of rotations.

  • Patent number: 10652643
Abstract: Generic adjustable in-ear monitors (IEMs) may suffer from a limited range of resilient ear plugs that may not adequately fit each user, and the user may prefer different ear plugs for different purposes (e.g., the user's interest in secure fitment may be higher when exercising, while the user's interest in comfort may be higher when the user is relaxing). The presently disclosed technology is directed to IEMs that permit a user to adjust without removing and replacing an associated ear plug. Instead, the ear plug is adjustable by the user to achieve a desired fit and may be adjusted repeatedly for different desired fits and/or different users.

  • Patent number: 10551719
Abstract: An electro-optical directional coupler is provided having a substrate and a first and second optical waveguide formed on the substrate, where the second waveguide extends adjacent to and parallel with the first waveguide for at least one interaction length. The interaction length has a first end and a second end such that an optical signal applied only to one of the first and second waveguides couples to the other of the first and second waveguides between the ends. A first electrode is proximate the first and second waveguides and between the ends of the interaction length. A first voltage applied to the first electrode independently tunes a coupling of a TE mode. A second electrode located proximate the first and second waveguides and the first electrode and between the ends of the interaction length. A second voltage applied to the second electrode independently tunes a coupling of a TM mode.

  • Publication number: 20190368664
Abstract: In-pipe leak detection systems and related methods are disclosed for detecting in-pipe leaks while fluid is actively flowing through the pipe. The system can include a sensing element coupled to a membrane that are disposed parallel to or in-line with an axial direction of a fluid flow. The membrane is configured to be drawn into contact with the inner wall in response to a suction force caused by a leak. The leak is detected based on a transient output from the sensing element indicative of a stretch or strain on the membrane. The sensing element and the membrane is coupled to a support structure configured to position the membrane adjacent to an inner wall of a pipe. The support structure can include a mechanism that couples the membrane and the sensing element to the support structure and is configured to help in discriminating between leaks and false detections.
