Abstract: Isolated compounds and combinations of isolated compounds isolated from Scutellaria barbata D. Don are effective in the generation of reactive oxygen species, induction of DNA damage and induction of apoptosis in cancer cells. The compounds and combinations may be prepared as pharmaceutical compositions for administration to mammals, such as humans, for the treatment of solid cancers, such as epithelial cancers. Such epithelial cancers include breast cancer and ovarian cancers.

Abstract: A device and method for controlling current output to current driven loads such as active light emitting diodes (LEDs) and, more particularly, a device and method for controlling current to an array of active LED strings that are disposed in series. The device generates a square wave AC current that flows through primary windings of plural isolation transformers whose primary windings are electrically connected in series. The device includes a current regulator that produces a regulated DC current that is proportional to a current reference; a free running inverter that converts the DC current to square wave AC current; and plural isolation transformers whose secondary windings are electrically connected to LED strings.

Abstract: A method includes receiving one or more query images and identifying multiple features associated with an object or an activity using the one or more query images. The method also includes accessing a sparse representation index using the identified features. The sparse representation index includes a multi-dimensional polytope having multiple vertices, and the features identify a point in the polytope. The method further includes identifying multiple vertices in the sparse representation index that are associated with the identified point and providing one or more images associated with the identified vertices. In addition, the method includes identifying one or more clusters of features associated with the identified vertices and providing one or more additional images associated with the one or more identified clusters. The one or more clusters may be identified using a clustering index identifying the clusters and features of training images associated with the clusters.

Abstract: A system for constructing a social network structure from image data. A number of image sensors or cameras may be placed in various areas of a large facility having much throughput of many people, such as an airport. Images from the cameras may indicate an event. The event may be activity recognized by video analytics of the system. Video analytics may detect, track and associate people, faces and objects in the images. The analytics may provide activity recognition from images. A dynamic social network may be constructed from information provided by the video analytics. Analysis of a constructed social network may reveal further information which can be available for improving dynamic social network construction.

Abstract: A synchronous rectifier is switched in accordance with a primary switch transition and a reference signal representing current in a current storage device to which the synchronous rectifier is coupled. A current emulator provides a signal representing current in the current storage device as a volt-second product so that current stored in the current storage device while the primary switch is on is discharged by the synchronous rectifier. The use of a current emulator provides an inexpensive solution for controlling synchronous rectifier transitions without resorting to more expensive current sensing solutions that are commercially impracticable. Blanking intervals are provided for avoiding false transitions of the synchronous rectifier when the primary switch turns on and after the synchronous rectifier turns off. The disclosed system and method can be applied to flyback converters for a synchronous rectifier on the secondary side of a transformer, or the inductor of buck converters.

The observations may be placed in a sliding window containing a series of observations inferred from a collection of frames for improving the accuracy of the tracking (or data association). The processed observations and data may be represented graphically.

The visual pattern may cause the subject's eyes to move. Images of the eye movements may be captured. An eye motion pattern may be computed from the images. The eye motion pattern may be classified relative to other eye motion patterns or a guide. The classification may indicate whether there appears to be an abnormal movement of the eye and thus an impairment of the subject. An identification of the subject may be obtained according to a biometric from the images and used to retrieve the subject's baseline eye motion pattern. A comparison of the computed eye motion pattern and the baseline eye motion pattern may indicate whether there is abnormal movement of the eye and thus an impairment of the subject.

Abstract: A system and method is provided to determine input power of a power supply using an input section by dividing input section output power by an efficiency value of the input section. Measurements of operating parameters are obtained through sensing devices that may be previously provided to avoid increased expense and complexity associated with the addition of a current sensing device. The input section maybe a rectifier or PFC stage. Input section output power can be determined by measuring current in a downstream DC/DC converter or converters. The current drawn by the DC/DC converter(s) is used as the output current of the input section to determine output power of the input section. The efficiency value is obtained for an operating point of the input section based on operating parameter values, as indicated in a lookup table or algorithm providing the efficiency values. The calculated input power may also be used to determine input RMS current for the power supply.

Abstract: An extract of Scutellaria Barbata D. Don is effective in the arrest of cancer cell growth. The extract of Scutellaria Barbata D. Don may be used as a therapeutic treatment for patients who have been identified as having cancer. In some situations, a patient is identified as having a type of cancer by detecting the presence of a biomarker for that cancer in the patient's system and by further determining the level of that biomarker in the patient's system. If the level of the biomarker is above a predetermined threshold level for that biomarker, the patient may be diagnosed with cancer. Subsquently, treatment using an extract of Scutellaria Barbata D. Don may begin. Biomarkers of interest in the detection of the presence of metastitic breast cancer include 8-oxoguanine and lactate dehydrogenase.
