  • Patent number: 8512961
Abstract: An extract of Scutellaria Barbata D. Don is effective in the arrest of cancer cell growth. The extract of Scutellaria Barbata D. Don may be used as a therapeutic treatment for patients who have been identified as having cancer. In some situations, a patient is identified as having a type of cancer by detecting the presence of a biomarker for that cancer in the patient's system and by further determining the level of that biomarker in the patient's system. If the level of the biomarker is above a predetermined threshold level for that biomarker, the patient may be diagnosed with cancer. Subsquently, treatment using an extract of Scutellaria Barbata D. Don may begin. Biomarkers of interest in the detection of the presence of metastitic breast cancer include 8-oxoguanine and lactate dehydrogenase.

  • Patent number: 8467570
Abstract: A detection system fusing motion detection and object detection for various applications such as tracking, identification, and so forth. In an application framework, model information may be developed and used to reduce the false alarm rate. With a background model, motion likelihood for each pixel, for instance, of a surveillance image, may be acquired. With a target model, object likelihood for each pixel of the image may also be acquired. By joining these two likelihood distributions, detection accuracy may be significantly improved over the use of just one likelihood distribution for detection in applications such as tracking.

  • Publication number: 20130108082
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include a microphone assembly having a microphone soldered on a bottom side of a bottom ported microphone flex circuit carrier, and a rigid coupler soldered on the top side of the carrier, opposite to the microphone. The coupler is inserted into and sealed to a microphone boot made out of a soft material. The top of the boot may be sealed to an electronic audio device into which the assembly is integrated. Acoustic openings through the housing, boot, coupler and carrier allow acoustic signals to reach the microphone. However, the seals between the housing, boot, coupler, carrier and microphone provide sound isolation, as well as a moisture and dust seal between the ambient and the inside of the electronic device. Such seals may include rings, grooves, threads, 0-rings between the boot and coupler; or a reinforcing ring around the soft material of the boot.

  • Publication number: 20130058524
Abstract: A computer-implemented method of processing a selected image using multiple processing operations is provided. An image analysis sequence having multiple processing steps is constructed. The image analysis sequence is constructed in response to receipt of multiple processing operation selections. Individual processing steps in the image analysis sequence are associated with a processing operation that is indicated in a corresponding processing operation selection. The processing steps are arranged in response to receipt of arrangement information that relates to a selective arrangement of the processing steps. At least one of the processing steps in the image analysis sequence is configured such that the processing operation associated with the processing step processes a specified input image to generate an output image when the processing step is performed. A display signal is generated for display of the output image at a display device.

  • Patent number: 8226574
Abstract: A system for detecting abnormal eye movement in a subject to indicate possible impairment of the subject. The subject may be presented with a visual pattern to observe. The visual pattern may cause the subject's eyes to move. Images of the eye movements may be captured. An eye motion pattern may be computed from the images. The eye motion pattern may be classified relative to other eye motion patterns or a guide. The classification may indicate whether there appears to be an abnormal movement of the eye and thus an impairment of the subject. An identification of the subject may be obtained according to a biometric from the images and used to retrieve the subject's baseline eye motion pattern. A comparison of the computed eye motion pattern and the baseline eye motion pattern may indicate whether there is abnormal movement of the eye and thus an impairment of the subject.
