Abstract: The present invention discloses a system including: (a) a host device including: (i) a cavity; and (ii) a socket, recessed in the cavity; and (b) a UFD configured to be reversibly operationally connected to the host device via the socket, wherein the UFD is configured to physically reside substantially in the cavity when the UFD is operationally connected to the socket. Also disclosed is a UFD system including: (a) a first part having components of a UFD, wherein the components include a primary connector and an electronics assembly; and (b) a second part having a UFD holder and a secondary connector, wherein the UFD holder is configured to reversibly accommodate the first part, wherein a dimension of the first part parallel to an insertion direction of the primary connector is shorter than a dimension of the second pail parallel to an insertion direction of the secondary connector.

Abstract: A portable data exchange device including a storage memory for storing data, a USB interface, and a device controller having a file-selection-and-transfer mechanism is disclosed. Upon coupling of the presently disclosed data exchange device with a USB flash drive (UFD), the file-selection-and-transfer mechanism is operative to automatically select for transfer a set of files residing in the data exchange device and/or the UFD, and to effect an inter-device file transfer between the data exchange device and the UFD of only the selected files. In exemplary embodiments, the data exchange device has at most a minimal user interface, no video display, and only one or two data ports. Optionally, the presently disclosed data exchange device automatically modifies names of files copied from the USB flash drive to the data exchange device in accordance with an identity of the source USB flash drive.

Abstract: A card vending machine includes a storage area, wherein each of a plurality of memory cards to be issued by a respective one of at least two different issuers are stored. A security mechanism conditions access of each issuer to only a respective portion of the storage area upon authorization of this issuer. An interface mechanism is operated by a user to define a purchasing transaction and a controller is operative, in accordance with the interface mechanism, to customize a memory card at least in part according to the purchasing transaction.

Abstract: A method for storing data in a computer having a magnetic hard disk drive (HDD) and an electronic solid-state drive (SSD). The method includes configuring the computer so that the HDD and the SSD are each independently accessible by an operating system of the computer. A plurality of files is received for storage by the computer. A predicted use profile of the computer is defined. A respective one of the HDD and the SDD is selected for the storage of each of the files responsively to the predicted use profile.

Abstract: A method and memory device for generating a time estimate are provided. In one embodiment, a memory device generates a time estimate from time stamps in file system metadata for a plurality of files stored in the memory device and uses the time estimate to perform a time-based activity in the memory device. In another embodiment, a memory device generates a time estimate from time stamps stored in a plurality of files stored in the memory device and uses the time estimate to perform a time-based activity in the memory device. In yet another embodiment, a memory device obtains a plurality of time stamps, selects one or more of the plurality of time stamps based on validity rankings, generates a time estimate from the selected time stamp(s), and uses the time estimate to perform a time-based activity in the memory device.

Abstract: A mole monitoring system including: (a) a calibration fixture including an illuminator that is operational to illuminate a skin area that includes a mole; (b) a digital camera operational to acquire at least one image of a body area that is included in the illuminated skin area and which includes the mole and its environment; and (c) a processor operational to analyze the at least one image of the mole and to determine values for parameters of the mole.

Abstract: A hybrid emergency stop system, the system includes: (a) a mechanically operated circuit, for stopping an operation of a machine when triggered by a user; and (b) a scream activated circuit, for stopping the operation of the machine when detecting a machine operator scream; wherein the mechanically operated circuit and the scream activated circuit are enclosed in a single compartment and are operable independently from each other.

Abstract: A digital photography system and a method of its use. The system includes a digital camera having a mechanism for selecting a graphical object, a mechanism for superimposing the graphical object within a field of view of a digital camera, a mechanism for manipulating the graphical object within the field of view before capturing the image according to manipulation parameters that are set by a user and a mechanism for defining a relationship between the manipulated graphical object and at least part of the image. The scope of the invention also includes a memory card bearing such graphical objects and a method of offering the system for sale at a price that depends on the graphical objects stored in the memory card(s).

Abstract: A method of using a device, including monitoring host activity in an autonomous manner, without the host reporting to the device about its activity. The method also including initiating communications from the device and using resources of the host for such communications, thereby enabling the device to function as a proactive device.

Abstract: A storage device includes an input device for receiving data and commands directly from a user, without the storage device reporting to or notifying of the storage device activities that result from the received data and received commands. The user may visually-code the commands for the storage device, or s/he may transfer the commands to the storage device as voice commands or as vibration-induced commands. A command transferred by the user to the storage device specifies to the storage device a set of one or more digital contents that are (to be) stored in the storage device, and an operation that is to be performed on the set of one or more digital contents. A command may instruct the storage device to irreversibly caption a set of one or more digital photos by using a caption picture or caption data, or to associate a voice tag to these digital photos.

Abstract: Content is created at a first location using a video camera or other device. At least a subset of the created content is stored in non-volatile storage at the first location. At least a portion of the content stored in the non-volatile storage is transmitted to a remote entity via a network in response to a trigger. For example, a video camera may send video data to a server or other client. If the network becomes unavailable, the camera will store the video in a local flash memory and when the network becomes available, the camera can transmit the video from the flash memory to the server or other client. Alternatively, the camera may transmit low resolution video to the server while storing a high resolution version of the video in the local flash memory. If a trigger event occurs, the camera will then send the appropriate high resolution video the local flash memory to the server.

Abstract: An information system includes a server that creates an information reservoir with data units for a user of a mobile communication device based on a unique user profile of the user of the mobile communication device. The server creates the unique user profile based on interaction of the user with the mobile communication device or with another computing system. The server transfers the information reservoir to the mobile communication device and each time the user requests data from a web site, the server scans it to find key terms. If the server finds key term(s) in the data, it uses a tagging rule to mark the key term(s) and, then, it transfers the data with the marked term(s) to the mobile communication device. The user may, then, select a marked key term to call/display a data unit that is locally stored on the mobile communication device.

Abstract: A waste disposal system, the waste disposal system including: (a) a sitting surface, for supporting a body of a user; and (b) a flexible basin including a drainage hole at a lower part of the flexible basin, wherein a rim of the flexible basin is connected to the sitting surface; wherein a shape of the flexible basin may take a first shape and a second shape, the first shape being a non-operational shape, and the second shape being a basin for guiding urine of the user to the drainage hole; wherein a distance between the sitting surface and the drainage hole is different between the first shape and a second shape.

Abstract: The present invention teaches a method for eliminating the visible gaps between screens in a multi screen video wall. This is done by placing optical bridges over the edges of the individual displays, which direct graphical information from the periphery of the individual displays to fill the gaps between said displays. Preferably, commercially available screens are thus combined to form a seamless video wall.

Abstract: A portable data storage device (such as a USB flash drive) including a housing shaped to facilitate a reversible packaging of at least one such portable data storage device into an object having a shape of a ring, preferably having dimensions of a standard CD ROM, a non-volatile memory within the housing for storing digital information, and a connecting mechanism protruding from the housing for reversibly operationally connecting the non-volatile memory to a host. The housing includes a mechanism for reversibly packaging together the portable data storage device to other such portable data storage devices. The scope of the invention also includes a method of distributing such portable data storage devices.

Abstract: A host-peripheral adaptor includes a host adaptor and a portable peripheral adaptor. The host adaptor includes a substantially flat peripheral-adaptor-side interface. The peripheral-adaptor-side interface is designed in a way that it is not easy to tamper with. The portable peripheral adaptor includes a host-adaptor-side interface that is designed to operatively connect to the peripheral-adaptor-side interface of the host adaptor. The portable peripheral adaptor also includes one or more peripheral-side interfaces for accommodating one or more peripheral devices such as a storage media. The portable peripheral adaptor and the host adaptor include a set of data lines and the host adaptor also includes circuitry for recognizing the specific type of a peripheral device and, based on its specific type, for setting a suitable communication path to transfer data between a host and the peripheral device.

Abstract: The present invention discloses systems and method for storing and organizing UFDs (USB flash drives) on a storage pole, and for configuring UFDs to accommodate storage on a storage pole. Various embodiments also include configurations of the UFDs and/or storage poles which prevent rotation of the UFDs on the storage pole, thereby providing aligned stacking of the UFDs. Some embodiments include more than one pole for storage and/or alignment of the UFDs. Some embodiments do not require a pole for storage and/or alignment of the UFDs. In addition, systems which allow extraction of a single UFD from a stack of UFDs while maintaining the order of the UFDs are also disclosed.
