  • Patent number: 6875139
Abstract: A method and a control system for supplying a working medium to a hydraulically-operated device. The working medium pressure is adjusted as a function of a control variable provided by a pressure control valve or a pressure reduction valve, both within a nominal working pressure range and also within a maximum working pressure range that lies between the nominal range and a system pressure value. For the same change in the control variable, the working medium pressure is changed by a greater amount in the maximum pressure range than it is in the nominal pressure range. Thus, in the nominal pressure range a precise adjustment of the working pressure can be made, and in the maximum pressure range a larger working pressure adjustment can be made to respond to suddenly increased external forces that act on the hydraulic device.

  • Patent number: 6783479
Abstract: A method and apparatus for operating an automatic transmission as a function of the engine rotational speed of a variable speed internal combustion engine. Upon a failure of the electronic control system, a return home of a motor vehicle under its own power is enabled. A delivery system delivers a working medium with which a transmission ratio adjusting device is actuated by a first control device that, in turn, is controlled by a pilot pressure that can be accurately changed by a second control device to actuate the transmission ratio adjusting device. The pilot pressure for controlling the first control device is changed by a third control device as a function of the rotational speed of the internal combustion engine when an adjusting device is switched out of a normal operation position into an emergency operation position.

  • Patent number: 6494797
Abstract: A hydraulically operated automatic transmission assembly wherein a group of dynamic fluid consumers including a continuously variable transmission or a planetary change-speed transmission and a clutch is regulated by a unit which receives pressurized hydraulic fluid from a pump. The pump further serves to supply fluid to several static consumers, such as a torque converter and one or more cooling and/or lubricating units. The fluid which is supplied to the static consumers is influenced by a hydraulic resistor, such as a diaphragm or a throttle, and the quantity of such fluid is maintained within an acceptable range irrespective of eventual leakage of fluid which is being conveyed to the dynamic consumers and irrespective of pronounced fluctuations in the quantity of fluid being necessary for certain modes of operation of the dynamic consumers.

  • Patent number: 6431012
Abstract: A torque sensor between a rotary input element driven by an engine and a coaxial output element connected to a continuously variable transmission in the power train of a motor vehicle has a plenum chamber for a supply of hydraulic fluid. The chamber is defined by two coaxial valve members of a pressure reducing valve. One valve member is connected to the output element and is movable axially relative to the other valve member, which rotates with the input element, to change the fluid pressure in the chamber. An inlet opening of the valve serves to connect the chamber with the outlet of a pump which supplies pressurized fluid, and such opening is at least partially exposed in at least one first and sealed in at least one second position of the one valve member.

  • Patent number: 6428445
Abstract: A transmission has an rpm-converter controlled by a hydraulic system. The hydraulic system has a supply circuit from a fluid-conveyor device to the rpm-converter, a return circuit to carry the spent fluid back from the rpm-converter, and a run-off circuit to return the run-off portion of fluid from a flow-regulating device that regulates the volume flow in the supply circuit. The return circuit and the run-off circuit are merged in a circuit junction that continues into a flow-back circuit.

  • Patent number: 6336880
Abstract: In the hydraulic control device a pressure-reducing valve (MF) is used to produce the belt-tightening pressure for the two pairs of disks (SSA, SSB) of a cone-pulley transmission, while the function of shifting the transmission ratio is performed by a ratio-shifting valve device (DBV13) that adds pressure fluid to one and simultaneously removes pressure fluid from the other of the pairs of conical disks. The pressure-reducing valve and the ratio-shifting valve device work in a cascade arrangement where the assurance of a sufficient belt-tightening pressure takes precedence over the ratio-shifting function.

  • Patent number: 6234775
Abstract: A pump comprises a housing and a pump unit arranged therein. The pump unit comprises a first and a second thrust plate and a ring arranged therebetween and having a through opening. The ring rests on the two thrust plates at least at an outer peripheral region thereof, and a pressure chamber is formed between the second thrust plate and the housing. A spacer supports the first thrust plate at a distance from the housing, and the spacer is associated at least in part with a radially inner surface area of the first thrust plate opposite the through opening. This allows deformation of the first thrust plate under operational pressure so as to hinder formation of a gap between the thrust plate and the pump insert.
