    Abstract: A laser depilator comprising a unit for removing hairs from the skin, a light source for irradiating laser light, and a lens for irradiating the skin with the laser light irradiated from the light source while deforming the beam shape so as to conform to the shape of a region of the skin from which hairs are removed by the hair removing unit. Since removal of hairs shielding the laser light and irradiation of laser light for damaging hair roots can be carried out continuously, efficiency of depilation treatment can be enhanced. Furthermore, depilation can be carried out effectively through a simple arrangement because a shaved skin surface can be irradiated with laser light over a relatively wide range using a lens.

    Abstract: A pre-fetch control apparatus is equipped with a next-line pre-fetch control apparatus 38. An address overflowed from a pre-fetch address queue 26 is stored in the next-line pre-fetch control apparatus 38. An access address issued by a processor unit and stored in a register 25 is compared with the address stored in the next-line pre-fetch control apparatus 38 and, if the two addresses are identical, a value obtained by adding a data block size ? of cache memory to the address stored in the next-line pre-fetch control apparatus 38 is stored again in the next line pre-fetch control apparatus 38. When the address issued by the processor unit is identical with that stored in the next-line pre-fetch control apparatus 38 a predetermined number of times, the occurrence of continuous accesses is presumed and pre-fetching is carried out for all addresses that have not hit the pre-fetch address queue.

    Abstract: An apparatus for laser depilation according to the present invention uses a semiconductor laser diode, which is controlled in respect of its energy level, thereby permitting an economical, effective and safe cosmetic treatment. The power output of light of the semiconductor laser diode ranges from 5 to 1500 mW, and the peak wavelength ranges from 600 to 1600 nm. The controller of the semiconductor laser diode comprises pulsating power output control means and radiation period control means for setting a desired length of time for radiation. With these control means the energy level of the beam of light from the laser may be so controlled that a strong beam of light may be thrown for a relatively short time, or that a weak beam of light may be thrown for a relatively long time. Thus, hairs of different thickness and colors can be removed.

A treatment region of the skin surface is treated with a semiconductor laser beam for an irradiation time of 100 msec or more per irradiation while controlling the laser beam so that the energy density when irradiating the skin surface may be in a range of 0.01–1 J/mm2. Irradiation of the skin surface with a semiconductor laser beam under such a condition provides a more secure and efficient treatment effect of laser depilation. A plurality of semiconductor laser beams are used as necessary to irradiate a wider area of skin surface at a time.

A hand-held applicator has a face formed on its top, and a push button switch on its side. The hand-held applicator is applied to one's skin by the hollow cylinder at its edge. The hollow cylinder has a cylindrical electrode embedded in and somewhat projecting forward. A heat sink is placed behind the spherical lens, and a semiconductor laser diode is press-fitted in the through hole, which is made in the center of the heat sink. A cooling fan is placed behind the heat sink.

    Abstract: A laser beam irradiation device according to the present invention is so constructed that it may increase or decrease the excitation electric current flowing through its semiconductor laser diode to enable a user to selectively practice both non-thermal and photo-thermal laser treatments. CPU 41 is responsive to switching-on and -off of an output-power switching unit S2 for sending a reference signal to an amplifier 472 via an I/O port 44 and a D/A converter 471, so that the amplifier 472 may provide at its output terminals a reference voltage, with respect to which a control reference voltage for a desired laser output can be determined. Semiconductor laser diode 35 radiates the laser beam from its opposite sides, and a photo-diode 473 receives one of the opposite laser beams to provide a light-accepting voltage at its output terminals. The so acquired light-accepting voltage is directed to an amplifier 474 for amplification, thereby obtaining the monitor voltage.
