  • Patent number: 6376433
Abstract: A two- or a one-step process and composition which coats metal workpiece surfaces (aluminum, copper, steel, stainless steel, etc.) with a thin lubricant film capable of allowing the metal to be deformed at room temperature. The lubricant consists essentially of polymers, dispersants, high molecular weight waxes and insoluble metallic stearates. With some ferrous surfaces, a separate coating layer is simultaneously formed (in the one-step process) or pre-formed (in the two-step process) at the metal interface, acting as a base for the lubricant. The process, after pickling in a mineral acid to remove scale and oxides, comprises the step(s) of immersing the workpiece either once or twice. The workpiece is then dried in a heated, forced air dryer.

  • Patent number: 6367543
Abstract: A liquid-cooled heat sink is provided having a cooling housing including a peripheral side wall extending from the perimeter of a bottom wall and a lid sized to engage the peripheral side wall so as to form a chamber. A fluid inlet port and a fluid outlet port are defined through the lid, and disposed in fluid communication with the chamber. In one embodiment, a plurality of pins project outwardly from the bottom wall so as to be positioned within the chamber and arranged in a staggered pattern. The pins include an end that engages the undersurface of the lid. In an alternative embodiment, a corrugated fin having a plurality of corrugations is positioned within the chamber so that at least one of the corrugations engages the bottom wall and at least one of the corrugations engages the under surface of the lid.

  • Patent number: 6235073
Abstract: A fastener retention system, including for a filter housing, applies an axial retention force in a plastic molded structure having a bore in a standing tower extending along an axis. A fastener extends axially in the bore and has a first axial end retained in the bore in snap fit relation, and a second distally opposite axial end extending axially beyond the bore for mating with a retaining member holding a cover on a base in a filter application in assembled condition. The fastener is secured to the tower in permanent snap fit relation. The fastener is axially slid into the bore before crystallization and hardening of the plastic. The fastener is axially trapped in the bore between spaced facing abutments, and is anti-rotationally keyed thereto.

  • Patent number: 6210082
Abstract: A method of repairing a diametral surface of a mold of the type used in manufacturing glass containers by an I.S. machine, after a repair procedure that causes or can cause an out-of-roundness condition in the diametral surface. The method, which is applicable to the frusto-conical baffle match surface of a parison mold and to a compound cylindrical and frusto-conical bottom plate engaging surface of a blow mold, involves positioning a mold set with its separable semi-circular molds in end to end contact and contacting the diametral surface to be repaired, while the mold set is stationary, with a rotating reaming tool the tips of the removable blades of which define a surface that is complemental to the surface to be repaired.

  • Patent number: 6011851
Abstract: Multiple audio streams are spatially separated with a context switching system to allow a listener to mentally focus on individual point sources of auditory information in the presence of other sound sources. The switching system simultaneously directs incoming sound sources to different spatial processors. Each spatial processor moves the received sound sources to different audibly perceived point sources. The outputs from the spatial processors are mixed into a stereo signal with left and right outputs and then output to the listener. Important sound sources are moved to a foreground point source for increased intelligibility while less important source sources are moved to a background point source.

  • Patent number: 5758573
Abstract: A paperboard carton piercing-crushing and recycle system and apparatus which includes a safety operated door which controls motor operated carton piercing and crushing rolls in order to crush paperboard cartons for disposal. The safety operated door is provided with a magnetic switch which controls two different timed electrical circuits. One circuit controls an electronic safety latch mechanism which prevents the carton disposal door from opening during operation of motor driven carton crushing rolls and one timed circuit operates the motor during the time that the electronic safety latch mechanism prevents the door from operating. When the motor circuit stops, the timer to the electronic safety latch mechanism releases the safety latch so that the door can be opened. Thus, the system is safe and will not operate if the carton disposal door is open.

  • Patent number: 5703354
Abstract: A binocular night vision device (BNVD) includes a pair of night vision monocular scopes which pivotally and adjustably depend from a central housing portion. The central housing portion and the two night vision monocular scopes cooperatively define a singular gas envelope, which allows the entire BNVD to be purged of moist air and back filled with dry nitrogen gas to prevent fogging while requiring only a single purging port. Further, the central housing portion contains a single battery and a single voltage step up circuit powering both image intensifier tube modules of the two monocular night vision scopes. In order to provide for interpupillary distance adjustment, the central housing portion and each of the monocular night vision scopes defines a sealed pivot mechanism which also allows for electrical connection between the central housing portion and each of the night vision scopes.
