  • Publication number: 20240109775
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for performing reforming in a manner where the flows for providing heat for the endothermic reforming reaction are counter-current to the flows for the reforming reaction. Although the flows are counter-current, the systems and methods also allow the heating profile of the reactor to have a temperature peak toward the middle of the reactor, as opposed to at the end of the reactor. This shift of the temperature peak toward the middle allows for improved heat utilization and recovery during operation of the reactor.

  • Publication number: 20240081440
Abstract: Improved personal protective equipment facial wear including, in one embodiment, an at least partly adhesive mask, and one or more adhesive eye shields. In one implementation, the mask avoids significant contact with the delicate periorbital skin of the wearer, yet provides a substantially airtight seal so as to preclude moisture vapor transfer and “fogging” of eyeware or instruments. In another implementation, adherence of the eye shield is at least partially overlapping with the mask and creates an at least partial seal around a perimeter of the eye shield. Further, an at least partial seal is formed around a perimeter of the mask. The mask and eye shield additionally prevent nasal air flow obstruction, and address the problem of skin irritation and attachment during normal facial expression and movement of the wearer.

  • Patent number: 11926795
Abstract: Catalyst systems are provided for reforming of hydrocarbons, along with methods for using such catalyst systems. The catalyst systems can be deposited or otherwise coated on a surface or structure, such as a monolith, to achieve improved activity and/or structural stability. The metal oxide support layer can correspond to a thermally stable metal oxide support layer, such as a metal oxide support layer that is thermally phase stable at temperatures of 800° C. to 1600° C. The catalyst systems can be beneficial for use in cyclical reaction environments, such as reverse flow reactors or other types of reactors that are operated using flows in opposing directions and different times within a reaction cycle.

  • Patent number: 11926243
Abstract: A vehicle comprising includes a traction battery and a controller. The controller, responsive to an interval exceeding a predefined threshold and a predicted net loss in energy, charges the traction battery such that the traction battery acquires energy in an amount at least equal to the predicted net loss in energy. The interval defines a confidence level that a predicted net change in energy stored by the traction battery will occur as a result of use of the vehicle between a current charge location of the vehicle and a next charge location of the vehicle. The amount is based on the interval such that the amount increases as the interval decreases.

  • Publication number: 20240074905
Abstract: Apparatus for protection of the ear and ear canal, and related methods of use and operation. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a selectively actuated valve which permits a varying or modulated size of aperture to be created by the wearer while the apparatus is in use, so as to accommodate varying functions, such as complete occlusion (e.g., for use in swimming or other acquatic activities such that water can be completely excluded) or partial occlusion (e.g., such that sounds can be heard by the wearer, whether in air or under water). In one implementation, the apparatus is retained within the ear canal of the wearer by virtue of the apparatus' shape and coordination with one or more natural features or contours of the anatomy in the ear region, without having to be inserted more than superficially into the outer portion of the ear canal.

  • Patent number: 11918952
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for performing CO2 sorption and desorption using a sorbent structure with an integrated heat pump. The integrated heat pump can allow at least a portion of the heat generated during sorption to be recovered by forming steam from water. The steam raised during the sorption process can then be compressed and optionally heated to raise the temperature of the steam. The compressed and optionally heated steam can then be used as at least a portion of the steam for desorption of CO2 in the same sorbent bed or a different sorbent bed. By recovering the heat of sorption to raise steam, substantial energy savings can be achieved relative to a conventional process.
