  • Publication number: 20110144889
Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine (100), particularly of a motor vehicle, operated with a gas as fuel, a lambda value of an air/fuel mixture being regulated by means of lambda control as a function of a signal from a lambda probe (130), and, when a lean/rich jump is detected by the lambda probe (130), a mixture control factor (GRF) which controls the mixture composition being varied at least for a predeterminable time such that a shift of the lambda air ratio toward rich is caused, is characterized in that the mixture control factor (GRF) is varied in such a way that an additional defined shift of the lambda air ratio toward rich is caused.

  • Patent number: 7594389
Abstract: A method for diagnosing a secondary-air system of an internal combustion engine. The secondary-air system introduces secondary air into the exhaust-gas region of the internal combustion engine, the secondary air exothermically reacting together with combustible exhaust-gas components, and a thermoreactor being formed in the reaction region. The method provides for a measure of the secondary air to be ascertained from the thermal behavior in the thermoreactor and evaluated. The measure of the secondary air, which reflects, for example, the volumetric flow rate of the secondary air, the mass flow rate of the secondary air, or the amount or mass of secondary air flowing in a time interval, is compared to at least one threshold value. At least one diagnostic signal is then generated as a function of the comparison result.

  • Publication number: 20030168050
Abstract: The invention relates to an inductive ignition device for an internal combustion engine, having an ignition coil (ZS) with a primary coil (L1) and a secondary coil (L2), wherein a diode (D) is provided on the side of the secondary coil (L2), having a spark plug (ZK) with at least one electrode, and having a measuring device for detecting an ionic current (14). A shunt device (16) is provided in order to decrease a residual charge that is present between the diode (D) and an electrode of the spark plug (ZK). The shunt device (16) preferably contains a high-impedance resistance (R) connected in parallel with the diode (D). This permits a reliable detection of combustion misses in the ionic current signal.

  • Patent number: 6539914
Abstract: An internal combustion engine is provided with an injection valve with which fuel can be injected directly into a combustion chamber either during a compression phase in a first operating mode or during an intake phase in a second operating mode. In addition, a control unit is provided for shifting between the two operating modes and for differentiated control and/or regulation of the performance quantities that influence the actual torque of the internal combustion engine as a function of a setpoint torque in both operating modes. A change in the actual torque during a shifting operation is determined by the control unit, and at least one of the performance quantities is influenced by the control unit as a function thereof.

  • Patent number: 6397669
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for evaluating the combustion operations in an internal combustion engine with a model is suggested. The model takes a time-dependent transfer between pressure and structure-borne noise as a basis for the relevant low frequency oscillations and only individual components of the reconstructable pressure signal are used for the determination of combustion-relevant parameters and conditions. Independence of engine speed is achieved with the realization of the time dependency with an angular-dependent transfer function.
