    Abstract: Non-invasive electrical nerve stimulation devices and magnetic stimulation devices are disclosed, along with methods of treating medical disorders using energy that is delivered noninvasively by such devices. The disorders comprise migraine and other primary headaches such as cluster headaches, including sinus symptoms that resemble an immune-mediated response (“sinus” headaches), irrespective of whether those symptoms arise from an allergy that is co-morbid with the headache. The disclosed methods may also be used to treat other disorders that may be co-morbid with migraine headaches, such as anxiety disorders. In preferred embodiments of the disclosed methods, one or both of the patient's vagus nerves are stimulated non-invasively. In other embodiments, parts of the sympathetic nervous system and/or the adrenal glands are stimulated.

    Abstract: Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for treating or preventing gastroparesis, functional dyspepsia, and other functional gastrointestinal disorders. The methods comprise transmitting impulses of energy non-invasively to selected nerve fibers, particularly those in a vagus nerve. The methods provide damaged interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) with trophic factors via vagal afferent nerve fibers, thereby reversing ICC damage, and as a consequence improving gastric motility. The methods also increase levels of inhibitory neurotransmitters in the brain so as to decrease neural activity within the area postrema, or they deactivate a resting state neural network containing parts of the anterior insula and anterior cingulate cortex, which will thereby reduce abnormal interoception and visceral hypersensitivity.

    Abstract: A non-invasive electrical stimulation device shapes an elongated electric field of effect that can be oriented parallel to a long nerve, such as a vagus nerve in a patient's neck, producing a desired physiological response in the patient. The stimulator comprises a source of electrical power, at least one electrode and a continuous electrically conducting medium in which the electrode(s) are in contact. The stimulation device is configured to produce a peak pulse voltage that is sufficient to produce a physiologically effective electric field in the vicinity of a target nerve, but not to substantially stimulate other nerves and muscles that lie between the vicinity of the target nerve and patient's skin. Current is passed through the electrodes in bursts of preferably five sinusoidal pulses, wherein each pulse within a burst has a duration of preferably 200 microseconds, and bursts repeat at preferably at 15-50 bursts per second.

    Abstract: A base station may generate and transmit a transport stream including a sequence of frames. A frame may include a plurality of partitions, where each partition includes a corresponding set of OFDM symbols. For each partition, the OFDM symbols in that partition may have a corresponding cyclic prefix size and a corresponding FFT size, allowing different partitions to be targeted for different collections of user devices, e.g., user devices having different expected values of maximum delay spread and/or different ranges of mobility. The base station may also dynamically re-configure the sample rate of each frame, allowing further resolution in control of subcarrier spacing. By allowing the cyclic prefixes of different OFDM symbols to have different lengths, it is feasible to construct a frame that conforms to a set payload duration and has arbitrary values of cyclic prefix size per partition and FFT size per partition. The partitions may be multiplexed in time and/or frequency.

    Abstract: Techniques relating to generating and receiving radio frames with multiple partitions are disclosed. A mobile device may include a wireless radio, one or more antennas, and one or more processors. In some embodiments, the mobile device is configured to receive a frame of wireless data that includes a plurality of partitions and partition data. In some embodiments, the plurality of partitions each include multiple orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols, and different ones of the partitions have different frequency transform sizes (e.g., different FFT sizes). In some embodiments, the partition data indicates the frequency transform sizes for the ones of the partitions. In some embodiments, the mobile device is configured to select, based on the partition data, one or more of the plurality of partitions and decode the selected one or more partitions to determine data represented by the OFDM symbols in the selected one or more partitions.

    Abstract: A method of extracting brain frequency sub bands corresponding to a medical condition such as Alzheimer's Disease from EEG time series data of a patient includes the steps of applying wavelet transforms to the EEG time series data to generate a continuous wavelet transformation time series at each wavelet scale, calculating Wavelet Entropy (WE) and Sample Entropy (SE) directly from the Continuous Wavelet Transformation time series at each wavelet scale, calculating arithmetic or geometric means and accumulations across scale ranges of interest; and selecting data from major brain frequency sub-bands as candidate sets of extraction features for analysis as a diagnostic signature for the medical condition. Diagnostic signatures for Alzheimer's disease are found when values of WE or SE are in certain ranges when EEG data is collected and analyzed in connection with certain analytical tasks such as an Eyes Open task.

    Abstract: A single diagnostic dose of a chemical agent that can bind with molecular specificity or provide a well characterized molecular effect on a mammalian host (including humans) is provided to a patient between brain scans. The method typically comprises at least one pre-dose scan of the subject followed by a waiting period then a second post-dose diagnostic scan. The diagnostic scans can be conventional in nature or of a multi-modal variety. A comparison, in the form of a difference or ratio, between data or extracted features before versus after the diagnostic dose indicates with molecular specificity the tone in the brain of that subject. The resulting data may be used to assess instances of medical fraud and can be used in back to work decisions for brain and soft tissue injuries for which the determinations have traditionally been somewhat subjective in nature.
