  • Publication number: 20220378359
Abstract: Systems and methods for remote therapy and patient monitoring are provided. A method comprises contacting an outer skin surface of a patient with a contact surface of a stimulator and transmitting an electrical impulse from the stimulator transcutaneously through the outer skin surface to a nerve within the patient. Data related to parameters of the electrical impulse applied to the nerve is stored and transmitted to a remote source. The data may include duration of treatment, amplitude of the electrical impulse, compliance with a prescribed therapy regimen or other relevant data related to the therapy. The method may further include collecting patient status data, such as symptoms of a medical condition (e.g., severity of a headache) before, during and/or after stimulation. The patient status data is correlated with the treatment data to monitor compliance and/or the effectiveness of the therapy.

  • Patent number: 11511109
Abstract: Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for treating or preventing gastroparesis, functional dyspepsia, and other functional gastrointestinal disorders. The methods comprise transmitting impulses of energy non-invasively to selected nerve fibers, particularly those in a vagus nerve. The methods provide damaged interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) with trophic factors via vagal afferent nerve fibers, thereby reversing ICC damage, and as a consequence improving gastric motility. The methods also increase levels of inhibitory neurotransmitters in the brain so as to decrease neural activity within the area postrema, or they deactivate a resting state neural network containing parts of the anterior insula and anterior cingulate cortex, which will thereby reduce abnormal interoception and visceral hypersensitivity.

  • Publication number: 20220323745
Abstract: Systems, devices and methods are provided for delivering electrical impulses to the vagus nerve to inhibit the reduction of telomere lengths in cellular DNA, thereby potentially increasing an individual's longevity and/or healthspan. A method comprises positioning a contact surface of a device in contact with an outer skin surface of a patient. An electrical impulse is applied transcutaneously from the device through the outer skin surface of the patient to a vagus nerve in the patient according to a stimulation protocol. The stimulation protocol includes at least two doses administered each day for a plurality of day. The doses each have a duration of about 60 seconds to about 5 minutes, preferably about 90 seconds to 3 minutes. The electrical impulse and the stimulation protocol are sufficient to modulate the vagus nerve such that such that the rate of telomere shortening in the patient's cellular DNA is reduced.
