Patent number: 8676879Abstract: A system and method for interworking a Converged-IP Messaging (CPM) service to another messaging service. In particular, the present invention realizes a function of allowing a CPM service's recipient to receive a message sent from another CPM service's sender using a non-CPM service to which the recipient has subscribed. To this end, the present invention uses preference information of a recipient in determining a non-CPM service to be subjected to interworking. In this way, the CPM service can interwork with non-CPM services, contributing to expansion of an area where services can be provided.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2009Date of Patent: March 18, 2014Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., LtdInventors: Seung-Yong Lee, Jae-Kwon Oh, Kyung-Tak Lee, Sung-Jin Park, Ji-Hye Lee, Wuk Kim

Patent number: 8626850Abstract: In a Converged IP Messaging (CPM) service, an arbitrary terminal generates a message based on a user input, and transmits the message to a CPM server. Upon receiving the message, the CPM server requests a presence server to provide presence information corresponding to a recipient of the message. The presence server searches for presence information corresponding to the recipient in response to the request of the CPM server, and transmits the searched presence information to the CPM server. Based on the transmitted presence information, the CPM server decides to perform interworking for the message, decides a type of a messaging service for interworking, and transmits the message to an Interworking Function (IWF) according to the decided type of the messaging service. The IWF receives the message, converts the message according to the decided messaging service, and transmits the converted message to the recipient.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2009Date of Patent: January 7, 2014Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., LtdInventors: Sung-Jin Park, Kyung-Tak Lee, Seung-Yong Lee, Jae-Kwon Oh, Ji-Hye Lee, Wuk Kim

Patent number: 8543719Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for managing XDM (XML Document Management) service information to improve management efficiency for OMA (Open Mobile Alliance) service information. The apparatus includes a controller for creating a shared User Resource Identifier (URI), and using a value created by the controller as a static value to be used as a newly-created reference handle for shared service information referred to by service information. The newly-created value is set as an unchanged value (i.e., it remains static until a corresponding element vanishes), thereby preventing signaling overhead, compatibility degradation, and resource waste due to modification of the shared service information.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2006Date of Patent: September 24, 2013Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., LtdInventors: Jae-Kwon Oh, Wuk Kim, Sang-Kyung Sung

Patent number: 8249587Abstract: A roaming service method in a mobile broadcasting system and a system thereof are provided. A terminal receives a service guide from a corresponding visited service provider (Visited SP) when the terminal moves to a roaming area. The terminal transmits a roaming request message for requesting a purchase item allowable for individual services to a home service provider (Home SP) based on the received service guide. Upon receipt of the roaming request message, the Home SP negotiates roaming availability and allowable scope for each individual service with the Visited SP where the terminal is located, based on the roaming request message. The Home SP transmits the roaming availability and allowable scope for the individual service, negotiated with the Visited SP, to the terminal.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2011Date of Patent: August 21, 2012Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Sung-Oh Hwang, Jong-Hyo Lee, Kook-Heui Lee, Byung-Rae Lee, Jae-Kwon Oh, Bo-Sun Jung, Jai-Yong Lee

Patent number: 8228881Abstract: Disclosed is a method for providing location information of a terminal by using an Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). To this end, a location request and a location estimate are transferred between terminals by using messages used in the SIP. In particular, it is possible to receive location information of a counterpart during communication, or transfer the location information of its own to a counterpart, in consideration of the fact that real-time voice service mainly uses the SIP. Moreover, it is possible to request and transmit location information on using multimedia services. Therefore, a terminal or a server using the SIP easily uses location information, so that it is possible to provide new services inter-working with location services.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2008Date of Patent: July 24, 2012Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., LtdInventors: Joo-Young Kim, Jae-Kwon Oh, Wuk Kim
