  • Publication number: 20180118791
Abstract: The subject invention pertains to a modified lantibiotic containing an intact cysteine at the C-terminus, particularly, a cysteine that is not decarboxylated and that contains a free carboxyl group. Derivatives of the modified lantibiotic comprising a moiety conjugated to the carboxyl group of the terminal cysteine are also provided. A bacterium that produces a modified lantibiotic having an intact cysteine at the C-terminus are also provided, wherein the bacterium is genetically modified to inactivate a gene that encodes a decarboxylase enzyme that decarboxylates the cysteine at the C-terminus of a precursor lantibiotic. Methods of producing a modified lantibiotic having an intact cysteine at the C-terminus by culturing a bacterium that synthesizes the modified lantibiotic and purifying the lantibiotic are also provided. Mutants of lantibiotics, particularly, mutacin 1140 having higher anti-bacterial activity or higher bacterial expression compared to mutacin 1140 are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20180103677
Abstract: A method of transferring an edible image to a substrate includes mounting a printing plate having an image to a roller; depositing an edible adhesive on the image; transferring the edible adhesive to a substrate; and depositing an edible coating on the adhesive coated substrate thereby transferring a mirror copy of the image onto the substrate. The method may further include placing the edible image in contact with foodstuff and applying pressure or a vacuum to transfer the edible image to the foodstuff. The edible image can be placed onto a foodstuff and light pressure or vacuum can be applied to transfer the image. The foodstuff can be held under pressure or vacuum until the image has transferred.

  • Publication number: 20140240127
Abstract: An alarm system that abuts against a barrier to help prevent entry. The alarm system includes a support portion, such as a tripod. The support portion forms a footprint for firmly pressing against the barrier at an angle. The footprint includes uneven lengths for the legs, a small distance between the ends of each leg, a brace that securely joins each leg, and support portion mounts that join to the ends of the legs for entrenching firmly into the ground surface. A mounting portion at the other end of the support portion includes a collar shape that is configured to engage a barrier fastener, such as a door knob. The support portion tilts against the barrier to resist a force from the opposite side of the barrier. An alarm portion with a sensor detects a force from the door and emits an alarm as required.

  • Patent number: 8455368
Abstract: A method for operating one or more electronic device manufacturing systems is provided, including the steps 1) performing a series of electronic device manufacturing process steps with a process tool, wherein the process tool produces effluent as a byproduct of performing the series of process steps; 2) abating the effluent with an abatement tool; 3) supplying an abatement resource to the abatement tool from a first abatement resource supply; 4) changing an abatement resource supply from the first abatement resource supply to a second abatement resource supply, wherein changing the abatement resource supply comprises: i) interrupting a flow of the abatement resource from the first abatement resource supply; and ii) beginning a flow of the abatement resource from the second abatement resource supply; and 5) continuing to perform the series of process steps with the process tool, while changing, and after changing, the abatement resource supply.

  • Patent number: 7902517
Abstract: A neutron detector has a compound of lithium in a single crystal form as a neutron sensor element. The lithium compound, containing improved charge transport properties, is either lithium niobate or lithium tantalate. The sensor element is in direct contact with a monitor that detects an electric current. A signal proportional to the electric current is produced and is calibrated to indicate the neutrons sensed. The neutron detector is particularly useful for detecting neutrons in a radiation environment. Such radiation environment may, e.g. include gamma radiation and noise.
