  • Patent number: 6801525
Abstract: Apparatus and a method for routing packets having destination addresses in their header. The routing modules of the router are of two types: simple routing modules which can only route packets whose destination address is stored in a limited memory of the module for storing corresponding output port addresses, and default modules which are used to find the identity of an output port for routing all other packets received by the simple routing modules of the router. Advantageously, the processing load of the simple routing modules is smoothed because these modules do not have to perform the complex searching functions required to find destination addresses not readily accessible in their memory. Advantageously, the single or small number of default routing modules can have sophisticated memory and processor facilities for searching over a very large number of destination addresses and for concentrating the process of sending queries to other routers for additional information.

  • Patent number: 6741599
Abstract: A telephone switch-integrated modem pool and broadband access concentrator provide improved data network access through a PSTN local loop. Rather than simply cascading data as TDM traffic through the PSTN, plural switch-integrated modems, a broadband access concentrator, and a broadband pipe are used to route data traffic between local loop subscribers and one or more data network service providers. Advantageously, point-to-point connections are maintained between subscriber and service provider equipment in order to enable continued use of high level subscriber-provider protocol service negotiation (such as PAP/CHAP, NCP and the like). LCP (link layer) management and translation between the asynchronous subscriber-modem pool link and the synchronous provider-modem pool link are handled transparently by the broadband access concentrator.

  • Patent number: 6701439
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of call rejection provided for use in connection with a data network. It includes establishing a point-of-presence which serves as a termination point for receiving calls from clients. Received calls are then multiplexed into a tunnel as separate identifiable tunnel sessions. The tunnel sessions are received at a network server of the data network. Next, it is determined for each tunnel session if access to the data network is to be denied. If access is denied, then a call rejection message is returned to the point-of-presence via the tunnel. In a preferred embodiment, the call rejection message identifies the tunnel session which is denied access and a reason for denial such that at the point-of-presence appropriate action may be taken in response thereto. In the case of suspected intrusion by an unauthorized entity, this action involves a form of deterrent and/or surveillance.

  • Patent number: 6643365
Abstract: A telecommunications system that recognizes “post-fix” codes after directory numbers are dialed. Such post-fix codes provide the calling party with the ability to invoke features or functions before the call is routed. By use of a post-fix code (for example, *X or *XX) the caller may, for example, control routing of a telephone call.

  • Patent number: 6633629
Abstract: A plurality of switching modules (102) are interconnected via an optical link (104) to form a switching system (100). Different wavelengths of the optical link (104) are used to selectively direct communications between the plurality of switching modules. Wavelengths have a fixed or variable allocation to communications between switching modules. Wavelengths may be time multiplexed or further subdivided by fractional wavelengths. Communications between switching modules are accomplished by allocating wavelengths in the optical link to transmitting and selectively receiving the communications on the allocated wavelengths.

  • Publication number: 20030163526
Abstract: Apparatus and a method for requesting establishment of a virtual connection for transmitting voice signals over a packet network. In response to operation of a soft button, the signaling messages for establishing a pre-specified point-to-point connection, conference connection or one-way conference connection are automatically generated. Advantageously, complex pre-specified connections can be established in response to the operation of a soft button.

  • Patent number: 6611831
Abstract: A method for discovering and assigning telephone numbers that have commercial, trademark or vanity significance to requesting subscribers on a worldwide scale. The method includes determining numbers that have value because they potentially will be requested for commercial, trademark or vanity purposes by companies or persons active in various locations in the world. Language translations and transliterations are also taken into account in order to obtain a telephone number that will retain its commercial, trademark or vanity value in an area that speaks a different language.
