Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for implementing a health monitoring system for a cloud application platform. One of the methods includes deploying, by a health monitoring application of a cloud application platform that provisions resources from an underlying cloud infrastructure system, probes for testing components of the cloud application platform. Each probe is configured to perform tests that measure performance of a component of the cloud application platform. A probe can attempt to provision resources from the underlying cloud infrastructure system by launching a test application on the cloud application platform and determine whether the test application launched successfully using resources from the underlying cloud infrastructure system.

Abstract: A rotating detonation combustor includes a combustion chamber configured for a rotating detonation process to produce a flow of combustion gas and an air plenum configured to contain a volume of air. The rotating detonation combustor also includes a flow passage coupled in flow communication between the combustion chamber and the air plenum and configured to channel an airflow from the air plenum. The rotating detonation combustor also includes a fuel inlet coupled in flow communication with the flow passage and configured to channel a fuel flow into the flow passage. The flow passage includes a plurality of fuel mixing mechanisms configured to mix the airflow and the fuel flow within the combustion chamber.

Abstract: An imaging system for a rotatable object includes an imaging unit configured to take a series of images of a portion of the rotatable object and a light source. The light source is directed at the rotatable object and is configured to generate pulses of light that illuminate the rotatable object during rotation of the rotatable object and allow the imaging unit to take the series of images of the rotatable object. The system also includes a synchronizer that monitors the rotational position of the rotatable object as it rotates, and a controller in communication with the imaging unit, the light source, and the synchronizer. The controller controls the operation of the imaging unit and/or the light source based upon the rotational position of the rotatable object such that each of the series of images is taken at the same rotational position of the rotatable object.

Abstract: Systems and methods for treating spent process water containing sulfate and calcium ions. A treatment method includes adding sodium aluminate to a volume of the spent process water to form a solid precipitate containing aluminum, calcium, and sulfate compounds such as ettringite (Ca6Al2(SO4)3(OH)12.26H2O). The solid precipitate is removed from the process water by clarifying and/or filtration, yielding a disposable solid waste material and a treated process water having concentrations of sulfate and calcium ions significantly lower relative to the initial concentrations in the spent process water.
