  • Publication number: 20190347217
Abstract: A memory controller comprises memory access circuitry configured to initiate a data access of data stored in a memory in response to a data access hint message received from another node in data communication with the memory controller; to access data stored in the memory in response to a data access request received from another node in data communication with the memory controller and to provide the accessed data as a data access response to the data access request.

  • Publication number: 20190340138
Abstract: In a data processing network comprising a Request, Home and Slave Nodes coupled via a coherent interconnect, a Home Node performs a read transaction in response to a read request from a Request Node. In a first embodiment, the transaction is terminated in the Home Node upon receipt of a read receipt from a Slave Node, acknowledging a read request from the Home Node. In a second embodiment, the Home Node sends a message to the Request Node indicating that a read transaction has been ordered in the Home Node and further indicating that data for the read transaction is provided in a separate data response. The transaction is terminated in the Home Node upon receipt of an acknowledge from the Request Node of this message. In this manner, the transaction is terminated in the Home Node without waiting for acknowledgement from the Request Node of completion of the transaction.

  • Publication number: 20190340147
Abstract: A data processing network and method of operation thereof are provided for efficient transfer of ordered data from a Request Node to a target node. The Request Node send write requests to a Home Node and the Home Node responds to a first write request when resources have been allocated the Home Node. The Request Node then sends the data to the written. The Home Node also responds with a completion message when a coherency action has been performed at the Home Node. The Request Node acknowledges receipt of the completion message with a completion acknowledgement message that is not sent until completion messages have been received for all write requests older than the first write request for the ordered data, thereby maintaining data order. Following receipt of the completion acknowledgement for the first write request, the Home Node sends the data to be written to the target node.

  • Publication number: 20190342034
Abstract: In a data processing network comprising one or more Request Nodes and a Home Node coupled via a coherent interconnect, a Request Node requests data from the Home Node. The requested data is sent, via the interconnect, to the Request Node in a plurality of data beats, where a first data beat of the plurality of data beats is received at a first time and a last data beat is received at a second time. Responsive to receiving the first data beat, the Request Node sends an acknowledgement message to the Home Node. Upon receipt of the acknowledgement message, the Home Node frees resources allocated to the read transaction. In addition, the Home Node is configured to allow snoop requests for the data to the Request Node to be sent to the Request Node before all beats of the requested data have been received by the Request Node.

  • Patent number: 10452575
Abstract: A system, apparatus and method for ordering a sequence of processing transactions for a plurality of peripheral units. The sequence of transactions is accomplished by mapping an incoming address to a target endpoint. The ordering of the transactions is agnostic to the type of endpoint being targeted and only considers an identifier of the transaction for ordering purposes.

  • Patent number: 10310979
Abstract: A data processing system, having two or more of processors that access a shared data resource, and method of operation thereof. Data stored in a local cache is marked as being in a ‘UniqueDirty’, ‘SharedDirty’, ‘UniqueClean’, ‘SharedClean’ or ‘Invalid’ state. A snoop filter monitors access by the processors to the shared data resource, and includes snoop filter control logic and a snoop filter cache configured to maintain cache coherency. The snoop filter cache does not identify any local cache that stores the block of data in a ‘SharedDirty’ state, resulting in a smaller snoop filter cache size and simple snoop control logic. The data processing system by be defined by instructions of a Hardware Description Language.

  • Patent number: 10282297
Abstract: A system comprises a number of master devices and an interconnect for managing coherency between the master devices. In response to a read-with-overridable-invalidate transaction received by the interconnect from a requesting master device requesting that target data associated with a target address is provided to the requesting master device, when target data associated with the target address is stored by a cache, the interconnect issues a snoop request to said cache triggering invalidation of the target data from the cache except when the interconnect or cache determines to override the invalidation and retain the target data in the cache. This enables greater efficiency in cache usage since data which the requesting master considers is unlikely to be needed again can be invalidated from caches located outside the master device itself.

  • Publication number: 20190073324
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling direct memory transfer (DMT) in a data processing system with mismatched bus-widths in which a home node automatically determines, from a read request received from a requestor node, whether DMT should be enabled or disabled dependent on the bus-widths of the requestor node and a target slave node and on the size of the access. Optionally, when the slave node has a smaller bus width than the requestor node, a data combiner at an upload port for the target slave node merges two or more data beats of requested data received from the target slave node to form a single wider beat and transmits the single wider beat to the requestor node. A counter may be used to determine when a data buffer in the data combiner has sufficient space to store data beats to be merged.

  • Patent number: 10185663
Abstract: A data processing apparatus is provided including a memory hierarchy having a plurality of cache levels including a forwarding cache level, at least one bypassed cache level, and a receiver cache level. The forwarding cache level forwards a data access request relating to a given data value to the receiver cache level, inhibiting the at least one bypassed cache level from responding to the data access request. The receiver cache level includes presence determination circuitry for performing a determination as to whether the given data value is present in the at least one bypassed cache level. In response to the determination indicating that the data value is present in the at least one bypassed cache level, one of the at least one bypassed cache level is made to respond to the data access request.

  • Publication number: 20180225206
Abstract: Apparatus and a corresponding method of operating the apparatus, in a coherent interconnect system comprising a requesting master device and a data-storing slave device, are provided. The apparatus maintains records of coherency protocol transactions received from the requesting master device whilst completion of the coherency protocol transactions are pending and is responsive to reception of a read transaction from the requesting master device for a data item stored in the data-storing slave device to issue a direct memory transfer request to the data-storing slave device. A read acknowledgement trigger is added to the direct memory transfer request and in response to reception of a read acknowledgement signal from the data-storing slave device a record created by reception of the read transaction is updated corresponding to completion of the direct memory transfer request.

  • Publication number: 20180225214
Abstract: Apparatus and a corresponding method of operating a hub device, and a target device, in a coherent interconnect system are presented. A cache pre-population request of a set of coherency protocol transactions in the system is received from a requesting master device specifying at least one data item and the hub device responds by cause a cache pre-population trigger of the set of coherency protocol transactions specifying the at least one data item to be transmitted to a target device. This trigger can cause the target device to request that the specified at least one data item is retrieved and brought into cache. Since the target device can therefore decide whether to respond to the trigger or not, it does not receive cached data unsolicited, simplifying its configuration, whilst still allowing some data to be pre-cached.

Abstract: A data processing apparatus includes receiving circuitry to receive a snoop request sent by a source node in respect of requested data and transmitting circuitry. Cache circuitry caches at least one data value. The snoop request includes an indication as to whether the requested data is to be returned to the source node and when the at least one data value includes the requested data, the transmitting circuitry transmits a response to the source node including said requested data, in dependence on said indication.
