Publication number: 20110189661Abstract: A receptacle having a plurality of interconnected chambers arranged to permit multiple process steps or processes to be performed independently or simultaneously. The receptacles are manufactured to separate liquid from dried reagents and to maintain the stability of the dried reagents. An immiscible liquid, such as an oil, is included to control loading of process materials, facilitate mixing and reconstitution of dried reagents, limit evaporation, control heating of reaction materials, concentrate solid support materials to prevent clogging of fluid connections, provide minimum volumes for fluid transfers, and to prevent process materials from sticking to chamber surfaces. The receptacles can be adapted for use in systems having a processing instrument that includes an actuator system for selectively moving fluid substances between chambers and a detector. The actuator system can be arranged to concentrate an analyte present in a sample.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 1, 2011Publication date: August 4, 2011Applicants: GEN-PROBE INCORPORATED, QUALIGEN, INC.Inventors: Scott S. BREIDENTHAL, Sara H. FAN, Richard S. LEE, Norman C. NELSON, Matthew J. SCOTT, Jason A. TAYLOR

Publication number: 20110120562Abstract: The specification generally discloses systems and methods for mixing and delivering fluids in microfluidic systems. The fluids can contain, in some embodiments reagents that can participate in one or more chemical or biological reactions. Some embodiments relate to systems and methods employing one or more vent valves to controllably flow and/or mix portions of fluid within the microfluidic system. Advantageously, fluid control such as a sequence of fluid flow and/or a change in flow rate, can be achieved by opening and closing one or more vent valves and by applying a single source of fluid flow (e.g., a vacuum) operated at a substantially constant pressure. This can simplify the operation and use of the device by an intended user.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 24, 2010Publication date: May 26, 2011Applicant: Claros Diagnostics, Inc.Inventors: Enqing Tan, Vincent Linder, Jason Taylor, David Steinmiller

Publication number: 20100158756Abstract: Fluidic devices and methods including those that provide storage and/or facilitate fluid handling of reagents are provided. Fluidic devices described herein may include channel segments positioned on two sides of an article, optionally connected by an intervening channel passing through the article. The channel segments may be used to store reagents in the device prior to first use by an end user. The stored reagents may include fluid plugs positioned in linear order so that during use, as fluids flow to a reaction site, they are delivered in a predetermined sequence. The specific geometries of the channel segments and the positions of the channel segments within the fluidic devices described herein may allow fluid reagents to be stored for extended periods of time without mixing, even during routine handling of the devices such as during shipping of the devices, and when the devices are subjected to physical shock or vibration.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2009Publication date: June 24, 2010Applicant: Claros Diagnostics, Inc.Inventors: Jason Taylor, Vincent Linder

Publication number: 20090304122Abstract: A receiver adaptively selects between a joint detection Viterbi demodulator and a second Viterbi demodulator to demodulate a received signal based on at least one characteristic of the received signal. The joint detection Viterbi demodulator jointly demodulates a desired signal component and an interference signal component of the received signal, and the second Viterbi demodulator demodulates the desired signal component without demodulating the interference signal component.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 26, 2008Publication date: December 10, 2009Inventors: Navid Fatemi-Ghomi, Carsten Aagaard Pedersen, Jason Taylor, Aiguo Yan

Publication number: 20090304121Abstract: A wireless receiver uses a joint detection Viterbi (JDV) algorithm to demodulate a signal that has a desired signal component and an interference signal component. The desired signal component includes a training sequence and at least one data field. The training sequence and a corresponding portion of the interference signal component is demodulated using the JDV algorithm to evaluate possible transmitted training sequences and interference signal sequences, and channel estimations for the desired signal component and the interference signal component are generated. The at least one data field is demodulated according to the JDV algorithm using the channel estimations as initial channel estimates for the JDV algorithm.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 26, 2008Publication date: December 10, 2009Inventors: Carsten Aagaard Pedersen, Navid Fatemi-Ghomi, Aiguo Yan, Jason Taylor

Publication number: 20090182638Abstract: A customer service machine, such as a self check-out terminal, includes a visual indicator and a proximity sensor associated with certain functional components or stations of the terminal, such as itemization, bagging and payment stations. The visual indicator is configured to provide a visual signal to either encourage or deter customer activity at the particular station, depending upon whether any activity is required to further a transaction being conducted at the terminal. The proximity sensor at each station determines whether the customer is about to take action at that station. A controller determines whether the action is appropriate, and if not activates the visual indicator to deter such action, or if so activates the visual indicator to encourage such action. In one embodiment, the visual indicator includes a red light that is illuminated to deter action and a green light that is activated to encourage action.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 15, 2008Publication date: July 16, 2009Applicant: NCR CorporationInventor: Jason Taylor

Publication number: 20090075390Abstract: Microfluidic systems including liquid containment regions and methods associated therewith for performing chemical, biological, or biochemical analyses are provided. Liquid containment regions of a microfluidic device may include regions that capture one or more liquids flowing in the device, while allowing gases or other fluids in the device to pass through the region. This may be achieved, in some embodiments, by positioning one or more absorbent materials in the liquid containment region for absorbing the liquids. This configuration may be useful for removing air bubbles from a stream of fluid and/or for separating hydrophobic liquids from hydrophilic liquids. In certain embodiments, the liquid containment region prevents any liquid from passing through the region. In some such cases, the liquid containment region may act as a waste area by capturing substantially all of the liquid in the device, thereby preventing any liquid from exiting the device.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 22, 2008Publication date: March 19, 2009Applicant: Claros Diagnostics, Inc.Inventors: Vincent Linder, David Steinmiller, Jason Taylor

Patent number: 7437713Abstract: A system by which a software product may be tested on multiple client computers on various platforms. Product developers submit requests for tests on their products, in the form of test packets, to a test component, via an API. For each platform and language (i.e., group) on which a product developer wants a product tested, the product developer provides a test packet that defines tests that the product developer wants conducted on the product in that group. The test component searches, via an autolab component, for an available client machine for performing the tests in the test packet. The autolab component finds an available client computer, and the client machine is assigned the test packet. The client machine performs the tasks in the test packet, and forwards the results back to the test component.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2002Date of Patent: October 14, 2008Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Eric A.
