  • Patent number: 8286488
Abstract: An apparatus and system for measuring material thickness of a test object. In one embodiment, the apparatus can include a measurement probe that can have a plurality of transducer elements that can include transmitter elements and receiver elements arranged, respectively, in on a first side and a second side of a gap. The first side and the second side can form a scan area with at least one active group that can have at least one transmitter element and at least one receiver element, which can be separated from the transmitter element in a spaced relationship.

  • Patent number: 8274769
Abstract: The cooling system for a power transformer is activated by sensing and processing the frequency characteristic including the harmonic contents, of the inrush current into the transformer, when the transformer is first energized. The cooling system may include motors operating devices such as oil circulating pumps and fans causing a coolant to flow about the power transformer. The cooling system is deactivated by sensing when the transformer is de-energized and when its temperature is below a predetermined level.

  • Patent number: 8260472
Abstract: A system for cooling a power transformer which generates heat, when driving a load, includes cooling devices, such as fans and pumps, located about the transformer, which are powered for circulating a coolant about the transformer. Each cooling device has a motor which is energized in response to given temperature (heat) conditions. In systems embodying the invention, the currents flowing through the motors of cooling devices are sensed and monitored to determine whether the cooling devices are functioning correctly and to substitute functional cooling devices for those which are malfunctioning. Sensing the currents in the motors enables the early detection of fault conditions in the cooling system. It also enables the monitoring of operating conditions and running time of the cooling devices to aid in the maintenance and operation of the cooling system.

  • Patent number: 8234836
Abstract: A framing member incorporates a series of web slots along a portion of the member that are expanded through the process of manufacture. The expansion of the web slots creates voids and metal web elements in the webbed portion of the member, which can be a stud. The voids created during the expansion process can become the voids for running wiring, plumbing and heating ducts. The web elements can be designed to minimize thermal transmission from the exterior to the interior of a wall including the member, as well as provide adequate structure properties required from the structural member. The expanded slots allow the part to enlarge without increasing the amount of raw material and therefore substantially reducing the cost to manufacture.

  • Publication number: 20120184348
Abstract: A gaming device repetitively generating an outcome display, for each play, is positioned relative to a companion complementary display. The symbols dominant to a winning outcome, which are displayed after a play, are used to control the characteristic of the complementary display. Several symbols may be displayed to indicate a game outcome in association with color characteristics. In an embodiment, a color of light is associated with a particular game symbol.

  • Publication number: 20120117329
Abstract: Combination based LRU caching employs a mapping mechanism in an LRU cache separate from a set of LRU caches for storing the values used in the combinations. The mapping mechanism is used to track the valid combinations of the values in the LRU caches storing the values resulting in any given value being stored at most once. Through the addition of a byte pointer significantly more combinations may be tracked in the same amount of cache memory with full LRU semantics on both the values and combinations.

  • Publication number: 20120109698
Abstract: A Chart of accounts (COA) is maintained as a logical set of constraints, criteria, and relationships and does not persist any of the valid combinations until a first time a particular combination is used. When any business logic or properties need to be set or referenced on an individual combination, that combination is physically persisted “just in time” and then becomes a physical combination that may be used going forward. A hash value is associated with each combination such that lookups are simplified.

  • Publication number: 20120033848
Abstract: A speaker system with a mount pivotally secured to a speaker frame for detachably securing the speaker system to a display monitor is disclosed. The mount pivots relative to the frame so as to allow the display monitor to be operably received between the mount and frame thereby holding the speaker system in place. A securing structure is preferably provided to hold the mount at a desired position, and resilient padding is preferably provided between the frame, mount and display monitor. The mount can also have a substantially planar bottom surface which allows the speaker system to rest on a desktop simply by positioning the substantially planar bottom surface of the mount on the desktop.

  • Patent number: 7992960
Abstract: One or more preventative maintenance mode parameters for an inkjet-printing device having an inkjet-printing mechanism are determined based on a water loss rate of water from ink within the device and/or on an air gain rate of air into the ink within the device. As such, periodic performance of a non-user-initiated preventative maintenance mode based on the preventative maintenance mode parameters results in the ink within the inkjet-printing mechanism being sufficiently fresh so as not to affect quality of image formation by the inkjet-printing device. Therefore, the non-user-initiated preventative maintenance mode for the inkjet-printing device is periodically performed based on the preventative maintenance mode parameters to eject at least some of the ink from, and to refill fresh ink into, the inkjet-printing mechanism.
