  • Publication number: 20080116629
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for maintaining surface smoothness of note as they pass through a high speed processing machine. A note fed into the processing machine is carried through the machine by a series of conveyor belts. The note is conveyed past a line scan camera that records the note as it crosses a gap while passing from a first conveyor belt to a second conveyor belt that is approximately orthogonal to the first conveyor belt. A curved note guide directs the path of the note, helping it make the 90 degree turn as it crosses the gap between the conveyor belts. The inertia of the note causes it to remain flush against the surface of the curved guide, allowing the line scan camera to record each line of the surface of the note with equal resolution.

  • Publication number: 20080116628
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus for facing documents during high speed processing. The present invention employs at least one sensor to scan the documents individually as they are fed sequentially through a processing machine. The sensor determines the direction the documents are facing. Depending on the direction the documents are facing, a path selector directs the documents to one of two equal length paths within the processing machine. If a document is facing up, the path selector directs the document along a first path that leads directly to a collection point. If a document is facing down, the path selector directs the document along a second path that includes a twisted conveyor belt which turns the document about the longitudinal axis to face up. The second path meets with the first path, wherein the conveyor belt reinserts the faced documents back into the same sequential position that the document was in relative to the other documents before being diverted by the path selector.

  • Publication number: 20060201582
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for processing rough cut lumber to convert the rough cut lumber into trimmed to length and dimensionally trimmed to form a standard piece of dimensioned lumber. The process and apparatus includes the formation of a plurality of columns of lumber pieces in addition to a one column operation mode. The lumber pieces in each of the columns are graded, indexed, measured for a trim to length, trimmed to length and then sorted by grade and trimmed length.

  • Patent number: 7103377
Abstract: A method for signal gain adjustment in a multi-port, digital distributed antenna system uses a sorter to sort received signals in ascending order according to their signal levels. A threshold comparator generates a dynamic range fair threshold that is updated as any remaining system dynamic range is distributed amongst the remaining signals. Any received signal that is less than or equal to the threshold is attenuated with a unity gain factor. A signal that is greater than the threshold is attenuated with a gain factor that is inversely proportional to the signal level.

  • Publication number: 20050040727
Abstract: A method of assembling and manufacturing a laminated rotor is provided which uses laminations having a thin bridge thickness. Different techniques are provided for preventing the molten material used in the casting or injection molding operation from leaking or seeping between the laminations during casting. In one technique, the laminations are stacked and oriented in the conventional way, and then both axial and radial pressures are applied to the stacked laminations to hold the laminations in position for the casting process. In another technique, the laminations are formed or extruded with a lip or collar portion that fit in a countersunk portion of an adjacent lamination and forms a wall or barrier between the laminations to prevent the leakage of the molten material during the casting or injection molding operation.

  • Publication number: 20050000083
Abstract: A method of attaching a rotor to a shaft is provided to obtain increased motor performance. The increased motor performance is obtained as a result of a high impedance gap that is formed between the rotor bars and the rotor core during the heat shrinking operation to attach the rotor to a shaft. In the heat shrinking operation, the rotor is heated to between 600-800° F. At this temperature the aluminum in the rotor bars expands faster than the steel in the rotor core and causes a deforming or yielding of one or both of the materials. As a result of this deformation of the material, the cooling of the rotor results in the formation of a gap between the rotor bars and the rotor core that operates as a high impedance barrier between the rotor bars and rotor core.
