  • Publication number: 20070121336
Abstract: A headlamp assembly for a motor vehicle having a light source, a chamber that receives the light source and a cooling channel for removing heat from the chamber. A conductive wall and an insulating wall cooperate to define the chamber and the channel. The conductive wall has a substantially higher thermal conductivity than the insulating wall to promote the heat exchange between the chamber and the cooling channel and to reduce heat exchange between the cooling channel and the relatively hot engine compartment.

  • Publication number: 20070008727
Abstract: A lamp system having a housing, wall portions defining a cavity and an opening. A light source, generally an LED, is located within the cavity and at least one thermoelectric device is disposed in one of the wall portions. The thermoelectric device has a first side oriented towards the cavity and the second side oriented away from the cavity. When in operation, the thermoelectric device will transfer heat from inside the cavity, via the first side of the thermoelectric device, to the second side of the thermoelectric device.

  • Patent number: 7160010
Abstract: A light manifold for an automotive light module emitting light to the side of a longitudinal axis along which light is to be directed. The light module is structured in a manner that permits the creation of light distribution patterns for particular functions, such as the stop light function for an automobile, that are otherwise difficult to effectively produce.

  • Publication number: 20060262551
Abstract: A light assembly and reflector are provided for redirecting light from a light source in a motor vehicle. The reflector generally includes a first parabolic trough, a second parabolic trough, and third trough. The first and second parabolic troughs define first and second trough axes. The third trough has a third trough axis. The first and second parabolic troughs are positioned on opposing sides of the third trough, and the first and second trough axes are angled relative to the third trough axis. In this manner, the reflector collects and reflects a sufficient amount of light while providing control over the beam pattern spread, particularly in the horizontal direction, whereby a single LED may be employed such that constraints imposed by heat dissipation are significantly reduced.

  • Publication number: 20060209558
Abstract: A light assembly is provided having a lens assembly that splits the function of a near field lens into two components, thereby permitting a manufacturable lens that achieves the desired beam size and intensity. At the same time, increased flexibility and control over the beam spread characteristics is achieved. The first component is an inner lens, while the second component may be a reflector or a second lens.

Ideally, the LED bulb is structured to create a virtual image whereby the efficiency of light directed out of the module is greatly improved, even with a single LED light source. • Publication number: 20060181894
Abstract: A headlamp assembly for a motor vehicle is disclosed as having a light source, a chamber within which the light source is located, and a cooling channel extending through the chamber. The chamber substantially fluidly sealed from the atmosphere and the cooling channel is fluidly sealed from the chamber to prevent direct fluid exchange between the chamber and the channel. Heat exchange, however, is permitted between the chamber and the cooling channel. The heat exchange may be further promoted by a plurality of heat exchange fins extending away from the wall of the cooling channel.

  • Patent number: 6850095
Abstract: A projector optic assembly is disclosed for use with various light emitting sources to collect direct the rays of light into a high gradient beam pattern. The projector optic assembly includes a light pipe and a projector lens. The light pipe is segregated into several regions including a reflecting region, a funneling region and a transition plane separating the two regions. At the first end of the reflecting region, closest to the light emitting source, is a connecting lens. At the second end of the funneling region is an emitting aperture that is designed to refract light into the high gradient beam pattern.
