  • Publication number: 20190289612
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for communicating over a wireless communication network. A wireless communication device may be configured to generate and transmit a message according to a tone plan for transmission to multiple destination devices within one of a 240 or 320 MHz channel bandwidth. The message may include a short training field (STF) and a long training field (LTF). The STF may be used by a receiver to adjust an automatic gain control (AGC) function. The LTF may be used for channel estimation. In some implementations, the STF may have a data tone plan formed from a concatenated sequence of sub-STFs. A phase rotation applied to at least one of the sub-STFs of the concatenated sequence may reduce a peak-to-average-power ratio (PAPR) of the message as compared to a non- phase rotated concatenated sequence of sub-STFs.

  • Publication number: 20190261369
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for partial bandwidth feedback based on punctured sounding. Punctured sounding is used by a transmitting device that omits portions of a channel bandwidth based on a puncturing pattern. The puncturing pattern may be based on an exclusion bandwidth zone to avoid transmissions on portions of channels that may interfere with an incumbent system transmission. The puncturing pattern may be indicated in a null data packet announcement (NDPA) to inform the receiving device that a subsequent NDP will be punctured. The receiving device may determine the feedback by measuring the portions of the NDP that are not punctured. Beamforming may be enhanced by using punctured sounding between two beamforming endpoints.

  • Publication number: 20190199491
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for wireless communication with partial channel puncturing. Using partial channel puncturing, a wireless local area network (WLAN) device may modulate data on a first portion of a wireless channel while refraining from modulating data on a second portion of the wireless channel. The partial channel puncturing can be used with an exclusion bandwidth zone defined for the WLAN. The exclusion bandwidth zone prevents transmissions on portions of channels so that the WLAN transmissions do not interfere with an incumbent system transmission in the exclusion bandwidth zone.

  • Publication number: 20190141717
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for interleaving in single user (SU) preamble puncturing in wireless local area networks (WLANs). In one implementation, a wireless device can identify an SU preamble puncture transmission, encode information for the SU preamble puncture transmission to produce encoded bits, parse the encoded bits into multiple segments, parse the encoded bits among multiple resource units (RUs) within each of the multiple segments, and perform a tone interleaving of the encoded bits within each of the multiple RUs. These techniques can be used in a 6 GHz band, as well as a 2.4 GHz band or a 5 GHz band.

  • Publication number: 20190141570
Abstract: The present disclosure provides techniques for preamble puncturing in wireless local area networks (WLANs). In one implementation, an access point (AP) can identify, within a channel width, one or more bandwidth regions associated with incumbent technologies. The AP can broadcast or advertise, to a basic service set (BSS) initiated or started by the AP, a preamble puncture pattern in one or more management frames, the preamble puncture pattern being based on the bandwidth regions associated with incumbent technologies. In another implementation, an AP can identify a single user (SU) preamble puncture transmission, and can signal in a common portion of a SIG-B field of a multi-user (MU) PPDU format that a resource unit (RU) size is assigned to a same user to indicate the SU preamble puncture transmission. Although these techniques may be used in any frequency band, typical frequency bands may include, but are not limited to, a 2.4 GHz band, a 5 GHz band, and/or a 6 GHz band.

  • Publication number: 20190124556
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for multiplexing clients of different generations in trigger-based transmissions, including trigger-based transmissions in extremely-high throughput (EHT) Wi-Fi systems. An access point (AP) may generate a trigger frame compatible with two types of stations (STAs), such as EHT STAs and legacy (or high efficiency (HE)) STAs. The AP may transmit the trigger frame to a group of STAs, where legacy STAs may process the trigger frame a legacy trigger frame. EHT STAs may process the trigger frame to determine resource unit (RU) allocations for uplink transmissions in a bandwidth greater than a legacy bandwidth. An EHT STA may determine the resources in the larger bandwidth based on an EHT RU allocation table, a legacy RU allocation table and an additional bit in the trigger frame, or an ordering of RU allocations in the trigger frame.

  • Publication number: 20190116068
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. In some systems (e.g., Wi-Fi systems), a transmitting device such as an access point (AP) or mobile station (STA), may identify a number of spatial streams for a data transmission that is less than a number of transmit antennas, and may transmit a packet over a channel. In a first implementation, the packet may be formatted in a multi-user frame format, with a number of long training field (LTF) symbols equal to the number of transmit antennas. In a second implementation, the packet may be a null data packet (NDP), and the device may transmit a separate data packet. In a third implementation, the packet may be formatted in single-user frame format with a modified LTF. A receiving device may receive the packet, and may perform channel estimation and power amplifier (PA) distortion cancellation based on the received packet.

  • Publication number: 20190115970
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatuses, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for managing high volumes of space-time-streams in Wi-Fi systems. An access point (AP) may transmit packets including long training field (LTF) sections using a number of space-time-streams greater than eight. Mobile stations (STAs) in the system may or may not be capable of processing this number of streams. The AP may modulate an LTF section using a matrix with dimensions smaller than the number of streams by using tone-interleaving or by performing modulation with separate matrices in time and frequency. In some other implementations, the AP may split the antennas for transmission into groups, each group transmitting either different packets in a subset of streams or a same packet in a subset of tones. In further implementations, the AP may combine multiple space-time-streams into a super stream that supports reception at different types of STAs.

  • Publication number: 20190110261
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless device may identify a transmission mode for transmission of an input signal to be transmitted. The input signal may thus be modulated according to the identified transmission mode, and the modulated signal may then be transmitted at some power level to produce a transmitted signal having a spectral envelope. In some cases, the spectral envelope may be defined in terms of a power spectral density (PSD) of the transmitted waveform. The PSD may generally define the power of the waveform signal distributed over frequencies of the waveform. Further, the wireless device may control the modulation of the input signal, in addition to the power level of the input signal, to maintain the spectral envelope to be within a spectral mask defined for the implemented transmission mode as well as to conform to spectral flatness parameters.
