    Abstract: Different numerologies may be used to communicate orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based signals over different frequency sub-bands of a given carrier. This may allow the OFDM-based signals to efficiently support diverse traffic types. In some embodiments, the numerology of OFDM-based signal depends on a bandwidth of the frequency sub-band over which the OFDM-based signals are transmitted. In some embodiments, the OFDM-based signals are filtered OFDM (f-OFDM) signals, and the pulse shaping digital filter used to generate the f-OFDM signals allows the receiver to mitigate interference between adjacent f-OFDM signals upon reception, thereby allowing f-OFDM signals to be communicated over consecutive carriers without relying on a guard band.

    Abstract: A bit-level operation may be implemented prior to modulation and resource element (RE) mapping in order to generate a NoMA transmission using standard (QAM, QPSK, BPSK, etc.) modulators. In this way, the bit-level operation is exploited to achieve the benefits of NoMA (e.g., improved spectral efficiency, reduced overhead, etc.) at significantly less signal processing and hardware implementation complexity. The bit-level operation is specifically designed to produce an output bit-stream that is longer than the input bit-stream, and that includes output bit-values that are computed as a function of the input bit-values such that when the output bit-stream is subjected to modulation (e.g., m-ary QAM, QPSK, BPSK), the resulting symbols emulate a spreading operation that would otherwise have been generated from the input bit-stream, either by a NoMA-specific modulator or by a symbol-domain spreading operation.

A transmit receive point in a first group of TRPs transmits with a first synchronization sequence. A TRP in a second group of TRPs transmits with a second synchronization sequence, the first and second synchronization sequences being different from each other. The TRPs of the first group share a common first characteristic and the TRPs of the second group share a common second characteristic. The transmission of the first synchronization sequence conveys the first common characteristic, and the transmission of the second synchronization sequence conveys the second common characteristic.

In one example, a method includes adapting the transmission time interval (TTI) length of transport container for transmitting data in accordance with a criteria. The criteria may include (but is not limited to) a latency requirement of the data, a buffer size associated with the data, a mobility characteristic of a device that will receive the data. The lengths may be manipulated for a variety of reasons; such as for reducing overhead, satisfy quality of service (QoS) requirements, maximize network throughput, etc. In some embodiments, TTIs having different TTI lengths may be carried in a common radio frame. In other embodiments, the wireless channel may partitioned into multiple bands each of which carrying (exclusively or otherwise) TTIs having a certain TTI length.

A technique is provided for transforming a coded and modulated sequence of samples prior to an IFFT that enables the transformed sequence of samples to be transmitted using conventional OFDM or transformed OFDM. The selection of a transform function for transforming the coded and modulated sequence of samples may be based on optimizing the transform function for particular operating conditions between the transmitter and receiver. In some embodiments of the invention OFDM and time transformed OFDM are multiplexed in time and/or frequency in a transmission frame. In some embodiments of the invention a pilot pattern is provided in which the pilot are sent using OFDM and data is sent using OFDM and/or transformed OFDM.

    Abstract: System and method embodiments are provided for enabling flexible and reliable UE-to-UE based relay. The embodiments include using fountain codes for combining signals at a suitable network layer higher than a media access control (MAC) sub-layer and using a MAC sub-layer hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) transmission scheme. When a relay UE in a UE group for joint reception receives, from a network access point, a data packet intended for a destination UE in the UE group and including fountain code at the higher network layer, the relay UE sends the data packet to the destination UE and returns a HARQ ACK message at the MAC sub-layer to the access point. The destination UE then receives and decodes the data packet. Subsequently, upon receiving the entire data, the destination UE sends an ACK message at the higher network layer to the access point.
