  • Publication number: 20210044405
Abstract: Different filtered-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (f-OFDM) frame formats may be used to achieve the spectrum flexibility. F-OFDM waveforms are generated by applying a pulse shaping digital filter to an orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signal. Different frame formats may be used to carry different traffic types as well as to adapt to characteristics of the channel, transmitter, receiver, or serving cell. The different frame formats may utilize different sub-carrier (SC) spacings and/or cyclic prefix (CP) lengths. In some embodiments, the different frame formats also utilize different symbol durations and/or transmission time interval (TTI) lengths.

  • Patent number: 10917167
Abstract: Methods, devices and systems are provided for spreading and transmitting data in a wireless communications system such that the resulting waveforms that are transmitted have low Peak to Average Power Ratio and mitigate signal collisions between different devices. The method for spreading and transmitting data includes spreading data with a sparse spreading sequence having equally spaced non-zero subcarrier elements to generate multi-carrier spread data on subcarriers corresponding to the equally spaced non-zero subcarrier elements of the spreading sequence; and transmitting the multi-carrier spread data. Different spreading sequences may be assigned to different user devices. The different spreading sequences may differ in terms of sparsity level in the frequency domain, sparsity pattern in the frequency domain and/or pulse offset in the time domain. Multiple multi-carrier spread data streams may be received by a network node and decoded using Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) techniques.

  • Publication number: 20210036822
Abstract: Aspects of the present application use diversity of more than one TCI state, QCL assumption, precoder and/or SRI on the network side to enable multiple transmission beams in a transmission period having multiple transmission opportunities to provide robust beam transmission from the network side. An example of transmission opportunities in a transmission period may be OFDM symbols in a slot. Aspects of the present application use diversity of more than one TCI state, QCL assumption, precoder and/or SRI at the UE to enable the UE to transmit multiple transmission beams in a configured transmission period having multiple transmission opportunities to provide robust transmission from the UEs. When using multiple transmission beams, in the event that data transmitted on one beam cannot be decoded (e.g. due to beam blockage, poor radio conditions, etc.), data transmitted on other beams can still be decoded successfully.

  • Patent number: 10911183
Abstract: System and method embodiments are provided to support network communications with groups of UEs. The embodiments include a two-level group-based hybrid-automatic repeat request (HARQ) mechanism and acknowledgement (ACK)/negative ACK (NACK) feedback. An embodiment method includes receiving, at a UE within a virtual multi-point (ViMP) comprising UEs, a data packet for a target UE (TUE) that is broadcasted from a base station (BS) to the ViMP node, decode the data packet, and upon successfully decoding the data packet, broadcasting the data packet to the UEs within the ViMP node until a timer pre-established by the BS expires or an ACK message is received from the TUE or the ViMP node. In an embodiment, broadcasted data received in the ViMP node is re-broadcasted upon receiving a negative acknowledgement (NACK) message from the TUE, a beacon UE, or any of the UEs within the ViMP node.

  • Patent number: 10912148
Abstract: System and method embodiments are provided for enabling flexible and reliable UE-to-UE based relay. The embodiments include using fountain codes for combining signals at a suitable network layer higher than a media access control (MAC) sub-layer and using a MAC sub-layer hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) transmission scheme. When a relay UE in a UE group for joint reception receives, from a network access point, a data packet intended for a destination UE in the UE group and including fountain code at the higher network layer, the relay UE sends the data packet to the destination UE and returns a HARQ ACK message at the MAC sub-layer to the access point. The destination UE then receives and decodes the data packet. Subsequently, upon receiving the entire data, the destination UE sends an ACK message at the higher network layer to the access point.

  • Patent number: 10904817
Abstract: Operational and environmental efficiency in virtual radio access networks (VRANs) can be improved by offloading data traffic and/or control signaling between physical transmit points (TPs) of a virtual TP. This may allow one or more physical TPs of the virtual TP to be muted in the downlink or uplink direction, thereby reducing energy consumption. The offloading may be performed during relatively short time-intervals such that physical TP are muted for one or more transmission time intervals (TTIs) before being re-activated. The offloading may also be implemented over longer time-intervals in accordance with a traffic engineering (TE) policy. Further it is possible to re-activate a de-activated downlink transmitter of physical TP by monitoring wireless signals via an activated receiver of the physical TP.

  • Patent number: 10901067
Abstract: Neighbor cell hearability can be improved by including an additional reference signal that can be detected at a low sensitivity and a low signal-to-noise ratio, by introducing non-unity frequency reuse for the signals used for a time difference of arrival (TDOA) measurement, e.g., orthogonality of signals transmitted from the serving cell sites and the various neighbor cell sites. The new reference signal, called the TDOA-RS, is proposed to improve the hearability of neighbor cells in a cellular network that deploys 3GPP EUTRAN (LTE) system, and the TDOA-RS can be transmitted in any resource blocks (RB) for PDSCH and/or MBSFN subframe, regardless of whether the latter is on a carrier supporting both PMCH and PDSCH or not. Besides the additional TDOA-RS reference signal, an additional synchronization signal (TDOA-sync) may also be included to improve the hearability of neighbor cells.
