  • Patent number: 6534691
Abstract: An efficient manufacturing process for &agr;-olefins using certain iron containing ethylene oligomerization catalysts, comprises one or more liquid full reactors which are approximately at the bubble point of reacting ethylene, and optionally a final reactor which is at a lower pressure than the first reactor, both operating under other specified conditions. This process minimizes both the capital and operating costs for the plant. The &agr;-olefins produced are useful as monomers for polymers and as chemical intermediates, for example for making detergents.

  • Patent number: 6535353
Abstract: A disk drive system includes a base, a disk stack rotatably attached to the base, and an actuator assembly movably attached to the base. A ramp assembly includes a set of ramps for loading and unloading the sliders and transducing elements carried by the sliders to and from the disks in the disk stack. The ramp assembly is attached to the base. An actuator assembly is movably attached to the base of the disk drive. The actuator assembly moves the load springs and attached slider and transducers to various positions on the disk. The slider is a block of material having corners and edges. Sliders have a backside surface and an air-bearing surface. The slider also has at least one recess therein. One or more pads of shock absorbing material are positioned within at least one of the recesses in the slider. The pads are positioned within one or more recesses to prevent the corners or edges of the block of material near the air-bearing surface from contacting the disk.

  • Publication number: 20030045658
Abstract: Branched polyolefin copolymers containing olefinic bonds preferably not associated with end groups, especially elastomers, may be made by reacting ethylene and a nonconjugated diene in the presence of a selected iron catalyst which can oligomerize ethylene, and transition metal containing copolymerization catalyst which can copolymerize ethylene, &agr;-olefins and nonconjugated dienes. The resulting polyolefins are useful, for example, as curable elastomers or semicrystalline polymers.

  • Patent number: 6444108
Abstract: A first process involves the partial electrodialysis of a dialkali metal salt of an aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acid or a dicarboxylic acid to produce the approximate monoalkali metal salt and the alkali metal hydroxide. The monoalkali metal salt is then treated with an acid such as a bisulfate to recover the aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acid or dicarboxylic acid. The resulting inorganic salt such as sodium sulfate may then be electrolyzed to sodium bisulfate and NaOH. A second process involves the electrodialysis at elevated temperatures of a (di)alkali metal salt of p-hydroxybenzoic acid produce free p-hydroxybenzoic acid and the alkali metal hydroxide. These are efficient and economical methods for recovering the acid and alkali metal hydroxide values, as well as the parent organic compound, from these dialkali metal salts.
