  • Patent number: 8964784
Abstract: A method and nodes for providing adaptive segmentation in a higher protocol layer interacting with a lower protocol layer. An adaptable segmentation limit, defining a threshold of a largest Protocol Data Unit (PDU) that is to be submitted to a lower protocol layer, is deployed at a higher protocol layer interacting with the lower protocol layer. For each Service Data Unit (SDU) arriving at the higher protocol layer, it is determined if the respective SDU can fit into the segmentation limit or not. Each SDU that do not fit into the segmentation limit is segmented into PDUs which are smaller than or equal to the segmentation limit, while no segmentation is performed on SDUs that fit into the segmentation limit.

An adaptable segmentation limit, defining a threshold of a largest Protocol Data Unit (PDU) that is to be submitted to a lower protocol layer, is deployed at a higher protocol layer interacting with the lower protocol layer. A PDU to be submitted to the lower protocol layer may match any transport block size that is available in the lower protocol layer.

  • Publication number: 20140369314
Abstract: In a wireless communication network where base stations receive protocol data units (PDUs) from mobile stations for decompression and deciphering for ordered, sequential transfer as service data units (SDUs) to an associated core network, the teachings presented herein provide a method of supporting seamless handover of a mobile station from a source base station to a target base station. By way of example, the teachings herein apply to a network based on the E-UTRA specifications, as promulgated by the 3GPP. However, that example is non-limiting, as the teachings herein apply to any network that employs in-sequence data delivery and duplicate data detection at handover. Broadly, the source base station forwards out-of-sequence SDUs and corresponding sequence number information to the target base station in support of seamless handover, and the target base station uses that information to request retransmissions as needed for packet reordering.

  • Patent number: 8908630
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method in a cellular communication system, for avoiding errors in a HARQ process, wherein an NDI flag is used both for indicating either semi-persistent scheduling, SPS activation or SPS retransmissions, and also for indicating, by toggling of the flag, a new transmission in dynamic scheduling mode. The method comprises the steps of receiving, in a scheduling message, an indication that dynamically scheduled transmission will take place; if a semi persistent resource has occurred for the same HARQ process since a previously received indication for dynamically scheduled transmission, then considering the NDI flag to be toggled regardless of the value of the NDI flag. Thus, if the condition is fulfilled, a UE will always regard the NDI flag as indicating or requesting a new data transmission.

  • Publication number: 20140226580
Abstract: A transmitter that may have marginal power availability is enabled to autonomously retransmit previously transmitted frames containing the same data. The transmitter sends an initial frame to a base transceiver station (BTS) and immediately retransmits the same frame without regard to any ACK/NAK transmission from the BTS. The retransmissions are accumulated in the receiver and decoded after a sufficient quantity of the frame is transmitted. After receiving the last retransmitted frame the BTS sends an ACK/NAK to the transmitter that is accepted.

  • Publication number: 20140219231
Abstract: According to the invention data in a number of logical downlink intended for one or more mobile terminals are received in a first mapping unit, where at least a first High Speed Radio Network Temporary identity is allocated to these logical downlink channels addressing a group of mobile terminals for allowing transmission of channel data for reception by mobile terminals. A mobile terminal then reads, from a Broadcast Control Channel, necessary information including a High Speed Radio Network Temporary identity allocated to at least one logical downlink channel, where at least said first identity exists among possible identities. It then listens to a high speed shared control channel for the read identity. In case it detects the identity, the terminal follows a scheduling command, receives data on a high-speed downlink shared channel and processes said data.

  • Publication number: 20140194108
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an arrangement for reducing a state transition time from a power saving state for a user equipment (18) in a communication network. The state transition time is reduced by retaining in the user equipment (18) one or more information parameter, such as the radio network temporary identifier for a high speed downlink shared channel (H-RNTI), when performing a state transition to said power saving state so as to enable a time reduction when said user equipment switches back from said power saving state.

  • Publication number: 20140153521
Abstract: The present invention relates to method and arrangements for using an identifier of a predefined type, e.g. an RNTI identifying one configuration on an out-band control channel for activating the configuration identifiable by that identifier. The identifier is sent from the network to the UE, when a configuration corresponding to that identifier is to be activated. This implies that both the UE and the radio base station comprise a mapping between each configuration and the corresponding identity of each configuration.

  • Publication number: 20140141790
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements for reducing the time delay associated with the initialisation of a data transfer in a Universal Mobile Telecommunications Systems (UMTS) terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN). A Radio Network Controller (RNC) initiates a data transfer by transmitting a downlink paging message to a User Equipment (UE), wherein the UE is capable of being in the states URA PCH, CELL PCH or CELL DCH. The paging message comprises information for transferring the UE from the URA PCH or the CELL PCH state directly to the CELL DCH state by means of delay reducing information indicated in the paging message.

  • Publication number: 20140140257
Abstract: A method for use in a cellular system with a controlling node and user terminals, UEs. In the system, UEs can assume one of at least two states, a non-listening state, i.e. a state during which a UE does not listen for data from its controlling node, and a listening state, an “on duration” state. According to the method a UE in the system is able to alternate between said two states according to a certain scheme, the scheme according to which a UE in the system alternates between said two states being dependent on whether or not data units which are transmitted between the UE and its controlling node are received entirely and correctly within an initially allocated resource for each data unit.

  • Publication number: 20140133341
Abstract: A method is provides in a receiving node for handling status information of data units transmitted from a sending node to the receiving node over a radio link. The receiving node establishes (401) that a number of data units that has been transmitted by the sending node are missing. The receiving node sends (402) a reduced status message to the sending node over the radio link, which message is reduced such that it comprises the negative acknowledgement for a first part of missing data units and omits negative acknowledgements for the rest of the missing data units. The omitted negative acknowledgement for the rest of the missing data units will not erroneously be interpreted as correctly received data units by the sending node.

  • Patent number: 8724579
Abstract: A method in a wireless communication system for reporting buffer information includes selecting a format for a buffer report based on a number of radio bearer groups, k, for which data is available for transmission by a user equipment. The buffer report indicates a respective buffer fill level for one or more radio bearer groups associated with the user equipment. The method also include encoding a buffer fill level for one or more radio bearer groups in a buffer report in accordance with the selected format and transmitting the buffer report.

  • Patent number: 8699375
Abstract: Method and apparatus for conveying feedback reports from a data receiving party (300) for data received from a data sending party (302) in a wireless connection. A plurality of feedback resources (304) assigned to different feedback information codes are allocated to the data receiving party for transmitting feedback reports. After checking whether the data was received correctly or not, the data receiving party selects a feedback resource (FR2) with a feedback information code that corresponds to one or more feedback reports on the received data. The data receiving party then sends feedback information on the selected feedback resource to the data sending party, thereby conveying the corresponding feedback information code. In this way, multiple feedback reports can be conveyed in a single feedback resource to the data sending party while still retaining single carrier properties.
