Patent number: 8687548Abstract: A method is provides in a receiving node for handling status information of data units transmitted from a sending node to the receiving node over a radio link. The receiving node establishes (401) that a number of data units that has been transmitted by the sending node are missing. The receiving node sends (402) a reduced status message to the sending node over the radio link, which message is reduced such that it comprises the negative acknowledgement for a first part of missing data units and omits negative acknowledgements for the rest of the missing data units. The omitted negative acknowledgement for the rest of the missing data units will not erroneously be interpreted as correctly received data units by the sending node.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2008Date of Patent: April 1, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Michael Meyer, Johan Torsner, Henning Wiemann

Patent number: 8687619Abstract: A system, method and node of downlinking transmissions to an unsynchronized UE in a telecommunications network. The method begins by a node in the network requesting synchronization of the UE with the network. A first transmission of data is sent from the node to the UE prior to synchronization of the UE. The UE then synchronizes with the network by the UE performing a Random Access procedure with the node, thereby triggering a time alignment command from the node to the UE to synchronize the UE with the network. A second transmission of data is then sent from the node to the UE after the UE is synchronized. A response feedback message is sent to the node from the UE. The message is a cumulative feedback message of the first transmission of data and the second transmission of data. Thus, data may be transmitted prior to synchronization of the UE.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2009Date of Patent: April 1, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Johan Torsner, Stefan Wager, Niklas Johansson, Riikka Susitaival, Peter Moberg, Magnus Lindstrom

Patent number: 8682371Abstract: The present invention relates to method and arrangements for using an identifier of a predefined type, e.g. an RNTI identifying one configuration on an out-band control channel for activating the configuration identifiable by that identifier. The identifier is sent from the network to the UE, when a configuration corresponding to that identifier is to be activated. This implies that both the UE and the radio base station comprise a mapping between each configuration and the corresponding identity of each configuration.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2008Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Mats Sågfors, Magnus Lindström, Janne Peisa, Johan Torsner, Stefan Wager

Patent number: 8675568Abstract: A method for use in a cellular system with a controlling node and user terminals, UEs. In the system, UEs can assume one of at least two states, a non-listening state, i.e. a state during which a UE does not listen for data from its controlling node, and a listening state, an “on duration” state. According to the method a UE in the system is able to alternate between said two states according to a certain scheme, the scheme according to which a UE in the system alternates between said two states being dependent on whether or not data units which are transmitted between the UE and its controlling node are received entirely and correctly within an initially allocated resource for each data unit.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2012Date of Patent: March 18, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Ghyslain Pelletier, Jonas Pettersson, Kristofer Sandlund, Per Johan Torsner

Publication number: 20140044079Abstract: A procedure for synchronization of re-configuration of RRC procedures between the radio base station and the UE is achieved by associating a new configuration to be used by a UE with an additional UE identity. The UE is normally identified by a first UE identity, but is informed in a re-configuration message that the UE also has the additional UE identity. The UE is identified by the additional UE identity when the new configuration is to be activated. Hence, when the radio base station detects that the UE responds to requests, which included the additional UE identity, the radio base station can conclude that the UE has activated the new configuration.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 16, 2013Publication date: February 13, 2014Applicant: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L M ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Mats Fredrik Sågfors, Magnus Johansson, George Jöngren, Magnus Stattin, Per Johan Torsner

Patent number: 8644252Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, a user equipment and a network node in a cellular radio network. According to the method of the present invention, the network units detects a failed transmission of a handover command to the UE, which is still having a uplink channel available, and further receives a RRC message from the UE indicating the loss of a serving cell and indicating the strongest cell. The network unit prepares and initiates a new serving cell re-establishment and sends to the UE a RRC reconfiguration message. The UE can then continue normal operation in the new cell.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2007Date of Patent: February 4, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Stefan Wager, Janne Peisa, Mats S{dot over (a)}gfors, Johan Torsner

Publication number: 20140023027Abstract: A radio communications link is established between radio stations, and a semi-persistent radio resource is allocated to support data transmission over the communications link. The semi-persistent radio resource is associated with a corresponding automatic repeat request (ARQ) process identifier. Non-limiting examples of a semi-persistent radio resource include a regularly scheduled transmission time interval, frame, subframe, or time slot during which to transmit a data unit over the radio interface. Retransmission is requested of a data unit transmitted using the semi-persistent radio resource. The ARQ process identifier associated with the semi-persistent resource is used to match a retransmission of a data unit dynamically scheduled on the communications link with the requested data unit retransmission. In a preferred example embodiment, the ARQ process identifier is a hybrid ARQ (HARQ) process, where a retransmitted data unit is combined with a previously-received version of the data unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2013Publication date: January 23, 2014Applicant: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET LM ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Johan TORSNER, Henning WIEMANN

Patent number: 8634315Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a mechanism for improving coverage in a wireless communications system. The object is achieved by a method in a sending node (210) for transmitting a data unit to a receiving node (220). The data unit comprises a number of bits. The sending node (210) and the receiving node (220) are both comprised in a wireless communications system (200). According to the method, the sending node (210) obtains (606, 810) a value n associated with the data unit. Then, the sending node (210) selects (608, 814) a transmission time instance depending on n, such that a function exists that uniquely associates the selected transmission time instance with n. Finally, the sending node (210) transmits (612, 818) the data unit to the receiving node (220) in the selected transmission time instance, without the value n.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2008Date of Patent: January 21, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Per Johan Torsner, Janne Peisa, Mats Sagfors, Stefan Wager

Patent number: 8605607Abstract: Method and apparatus for conveying feedback reports from a data receiving party (300) for data received from a data sending party (302) in a wireless connection. A plurality of feedback resources (304) assigned to different feedback information codes are allocated to the data receiving party for transmitting feedback reports. After checking whether the data was received correctly or not, the data receiving party selects a feedback resource (FR2) with a feedback information code that corresponds to one or more feedback reports on the received data. The data receiving party then sends feedback information on the selected feedback resource to the data sending party, thereby conveying the corresponding feedback information code. In this way, multiple feedback reports can be conveyed in a single feedback resource to the data sending party while still retaining single carrier properties.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2008Date of Patent: December 10, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Tobias Tynderfeldt, David Astely, Stefan Parkvall, Johan Torsner

Publication number: 20130315179Abstract: The present invention relates to a method in a cellular communication system, for avoiding errors in a HARQ process, wherein an NDI flag is used both for indicating either semi-persistent scheduling, SPS activation or SPS retransmissions, and also for indicating, by toggling of the flag, a new transmission in dynamic scheduling mode. The method comprises the steps of receiving, in a scheduling message, an indication that dynamically scheduled transmission will take place; if a semi persistent resource has occurred for the same HARQ process since a previously received indication for dynamically scheduled transmission, then considering the NDI flag to be toggled regardless of the value of the NDI flag. Thus, if the condition is fulfilled, a UE will always regard the NDI flag as indicating or requesting a new data transmission.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 5, 2013Publication date: November 28, 2013Applicant: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L.M ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Michael Meyer, Johan Torsner, Henning Wiemann, Magnus Stattin

Patent number: 8594043Abstract: Methods and devices are disclosed for forwarding data packets during handover in a packet-switched wireless communications system, such as a 3GPP Long-Term Evolution/System Architecture Evolution system. In an exemplary method, a source base station node determines that handover of at least one radio bearer for a served user terminal to a target base station node is imminent. The source base station node classifies a plurality of data packets into two or more data flow classifications according to a transmission status for each data packet, a service requirement for each data packet, or both and selectively forwards one or more of the data packets to the target base station node based on the data flow classification for each data packet. For example, data packets associated with a reliable delivery service requirement may be forwarded while data packets associated with a maximum delay service requirement are not.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2008Date of Patent: November 26, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Ghyslain Pelletier, Mats Sagfors, Johan Torsner

Patent number: 8588845Abstract: According to the present invention, a receiving node of a telecommunications network (20) (e.g. a radio base station (22) in uplink, or a mobile terminal (24) in downlink) transmits a single acknowledgement message to a transmitting node (e.g. a mobile terminal (24) in uplink, or a radio base station (22) in downlink) in respect of signals received over a plurality of frequency-aggregated carriers (component carriers) (10) between the transmitting and receiving nodes. If all signals are decoded correctly in the receiving node, a positive acknowledgement message (ACK) is sent to the transmitting node; if not all signals are decoded correctly, a negative acknowledgement message (NACK) is sent, or no acknowledgement message is sent. In this way, a single acknowledgement message can be sent for signals received over multiple carriers.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2009Date of Patent: November 19, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM EricssonInventors: Stefan Parkvall, Johan Torsner, Michael Meyer, Mats Sågfors, Robert Baldemair, David Astely, Henning Wiemann

Publication number: 20130266001Abstract: A method and apparatus according to the present invention addresses and/or prevents lost protocol synchronization in HARQ systems caused by ACK/NACK errors. One embodiment detects lost synchronization errors for NDI-based retransmission protocols and restores synchronization by sending an explicit RESET message. In response to the RESET message, the transmitter aborts the transmission of a current PDU and transmits a new PDU and corresponding NDI. Another embodiment prevents protocol synchronization errors by sending scheduling grants on a packet by packet basis. The receiver sends a subsequent explicit scheduling grant to the transmitter based on an error evaluation of a received PDU. The transmitter will not send the next PDU unless it receives the subsequent explicit scheduling grant.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 18, 2013Publication date: October 10, 2013Inventors: Janne Peisa, Michael Meyer, Johan Torsner, Stefan Parkvall, Magnus Stattin, Mats Sågfors
