  • Patent number: 7359899
Abstract: On one or more data processing systems, a collection rating is determined for a rating scale for contents of a document collection. A link rating is determined for the rating scale for contents linked to or linked by contents of the document collection. The collection rating for the rating scale for contents of the document collection is then modified, based on the determined link rating for the rating scale for contents linked to or linked by contents of the document collection.

  • Publication number: 20080045186
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods that enable an end user to control the parameters, behavior, and identity of network communications regardless of the limitations placed upon these controls by the end user's communications device or communications service provider. An intermediate media proxy resides on a telecommunications network and accepts inbound and outbound communications to and from a network communication device. The intermediate media proxy functions as an intermediary for network communications that occur between the network communications device and other network communications devices. In this manner, the intermediate media proxy can control various features of the communications independent of limitations enacted by the end user's communications device or communications service provider.

  • Publication number: 20070261112
Abstract: A network security device which acts as an “airlock” for traffic between a communications device and a network. Data is screened using rules based analysis by the security device to counter various threats, including viruses, phishing, attempts to “hijack” communications, communications with known malicious addresses or unknown addresses, and transmission of sensitive information. Data packets can be reassembled into files for screening, and decoded or expanded as necessary, but is never executed. The data path for the data being screened is kept separate from the operations of the network security device itself, so that the device is incorruptible—its programming cannot be compromised from outside sources. Updates for rules and entry of sensitive data for screening, etc., must be done through a physical interface, not via the normal data communications channel. The device is invisible—it cannot be “seen” by the network, and thus cannot be attacked.

  • Publication number: 20070246589
Abstract: A fishing reel end plate may comprise a unitary disk having a generally central opening between a frame facing side and an exterior side thereof, a bridge proximate the frame facing side thereof and a wall joining a fundus and the exterior side thereof defining a first cavity open at the exterior side. The bridge may have a hole spaced apart from a generally central opening for receiving a stud. The unitary disk may have a second cavity open at the frame facing side and separated from the first cavity by a common portion of the wall, and the common wall portion may have an opening between the first and second cavities. The end plate may be mounted to the frame of a fishing reel.

  • Patent number: 7248157
Abstract: In one aspect, a phone-interface device determines whether a problem has occurred at a control panel by determining whether a signal from the control panel has been received, and when a signal has not been received within a period of time, the phone-interface device transmits an error message to a monitoring station. In another aspect, the control panel determines whether a problem has occurred at the phone-interface device by determining whether a signal from the phone-interface device has been received, and when a signal has not been received within a period of time, the control panel transmits an error message to a user. In another aspect, the phone-interface device contains memory to buffer data transferred between the control panel and a monitoring station. In this way, a high-speed connection between the phone-interface and the monitoring station can be accommodated while using a lower-speed connection between the phone-interface device and the control panel.

  • Patent number: 7244577
Abstract: A novel receptor, “LDL-receptor-related protein-5” (“LRP-5”), is provided, along with encoding nucleic acid. The gene is associated with type 1 diabetes (insulin dependent diabetes mellitus), and experimental evidence provides indication that it is the IDDM susceptibility gene IDDM4. In various aspects the invention provides nucleic acid, including coding sequences, oligonucleotide primers and probes, polypeptides, pharmaceutical compositions, methods of diagnosis or prognosis, and other methods relating to and based on the gene, including methods of treatment of diseases in which the gene may be implicated, including autoimmune diseases, such as glomerulonephritis, diseases and disorders involving disruption of endocytosis and/or antigen presentation, diseases and disorders involving cytokine clearance and/or inflammation, viral infection, elevation of free fatty acids or hypercholesterolemia, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's disease, and diabetes.

  • Publication number: 20060246449
Abstract: There is disclosed a method for determining the identity of one or more mutations or single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in a genome, comprising: a contacting a sample genome, under conditions which permit template dependant oligonucleotide ligation, with a plurality of different oligonucleotide molecules which comprise (i) a first set of oligonucleotides each comprising a sequence of nucleotides that is complementary to a region on said genome that includes a known SNP site and which oligonucleotides are complementary to said region other than at a base at or near the 5? end of said oligonucleotides that is to be tested for complementarity to a base at the SNP site, each of said oligonucleotides comprising a unique label to identify both the base to be tested and the position of the SNP to be scored, (ii) a second set of oligonucleotides each comprising a sequence of nucleotides complementary to a region on said target genome for hybridisation with said target genome adjacent the 5? end of an oligonucleot

  • Patent number: 7054414
Abstract: A phone-interface device receives a wireless signal from a control panel. The wireless signal encodes information regarding a system condition that has occurred in a facility. The phone-interface device communicates the system condition to a monitoring station. The phone-interface device receives its electrical power from the telephone line or from an energy storage device. In another aspect, the phone-interface device receives a provisional-alarm signal command from a control panel. The phone-interface device determines whether a disarm command has been received from the control panel. When a disarm command has not been received before expiration of a period of time, the phone-interface devices sends an alarm condition to a monitoring station.

  • Publication number: 20050103473
Abstract: A heat sink has a base plate to be clamped against a heat source and one or more heat pipes containing a phase change fluid. Each heat pipe has an elongated tubular evaporator fitted in a channel in the base plate, and a columnar condenser part perpendicular to the base plate forming a structural column for air heat exchange fins. The channel in the base plate is parallel to an edge. An additional channel or ridge is provided, also parallel to the edge, for receiving a clamp or spring clip to urge the base plate against the heat source. The base plate is inexpensively extruded with the parallel channels, ridges, etc., extending across the width of the base plate parallel to the edge. The heat sink has a minimum number of inexpensive parts yet is highly thermally efficient.
