  • Patent number: 7424503
Abstract: Pipelined digital accumulators. Parallel digital accumulators for use in digital signal processing are improved through pipelining. An accumulator is partitioned into a plurality of pipelined stages, and the pipeline delay is used to reduce the effect of carry propagation through the accumulator. While input and output delay registers are used in the accumulator partitions, the output delay registers are not needed if the results of those partitions are not needed in subsequent stages of computation. If phase coherence is not needed, input delay registers may not be needed on accumulator partitions. In the limiting case of one bit per partition, the effective speed of the pipelined accumulator is equivalent to the speed of a single bit accumulator stage.

  • Patent number: 7356031
Abstract: Packets may be forwarded between realms employing private unregistered addresses without the use of network address translation and/or application level gateways. Nodes within privately addressed realms are identified by a combination of their locally significant address and a globally significant realm address. The globally significant addresses are reserved in all realms for use as realm identifiers or inter-realm routing. To send a packet to a node within a distinct private realm, the packet is given an inner IP header designating the locally significant destination IP address of the target node within the remote realm and an encapsulation IP header indicating the globally significant address advertised by the gateway of the target node's realm. The globally significant address is used for forwarding outside the realm of the destination node. Once the packet reaches the destination realm, the locally significant address is used for forwarding.

  • Patent number: 7356569
Abstract: The invention includes a method of tracking distributed content within a computer network. The method includes the step of identifying the delivery of a set of Network Information Monitors (NIMs). Information about each NTM within the set of NIMs is tracked. The information includes a first time at which a user opens a selected NIM, a second time at which the user closes the selected NW, and an identifier for the selected NIM. The information is used to determine sub-sets of NIMs that are displayed simultaneously. The invention also includes a method of identifying the delivery of a Network Information Monitor (NIM) to a user. Content information for the NIM is recorded. NIM use activity is tracked the user for a set of NIMs. The content information is correlated with the NIM use activity.

  • Patent number: 7165442
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods for detecting a water leak in a locomotive engine cooling system comprising numerous components, each being a potential source of leakage of water. The method typically comprises performing at least one inspection providing an indication of a water leak from an engine cooling system of the locomotive. The step of performing at least one inspection may comprise at least one of several steps including performing a visual inspection to determine if water is leaking from a portion of the cooling system external to the engine; performing a visual inspection of exhaust of the engine to detect an indication of water vapor in the exhaust; performing a visual inspection to detect an indication of water leaking into an intake air manifold 30 of the engine; performing an engine oil analysis to detect water in the engine lubricant; reviewing a fault log history for the locomotive; and checking a level of a cooling system sight glass.

  • Patent number: 7117669
Abstract: The invention relates to systems for removing NOx from exhaust. In one aspect of the invention, after adsorption, an NOx adsorber is isolated from the main exhaust flow and desorption induced by raising the temperature. The desorbed NOx is combined with a reductant and reduced over a catalyst. Preferably, the reductant is syn gas produced in an on-board reformer. The catalyst need never be exposed to the main exhaust flow, which is particularly advantageous for catalysts sensitive to water, oxygen, or sulfur. In another aspect of the invention, a recirculating flow is induced through an NOx adsorber during a regeneration cycle. Recirculation can induce greater desorption at a given temperature, provide a source of heat for the adsorber, and allow a higher conversion rate with a fixed amount of catalyst. A further aspect of the invention relates to a vehicle-mounted adsorbers with provisions for heating.

  • Patent number: 7104502
Abstract: An ice detector for providing a signal indicating ice formation includes a probe protruding into an airflow. The probe extends into the airflow from a strut. The strut has one or more features which allow the probe to accrete ice at a higher temperature than would conventionally be possible. Strut features can include a notch formed therein in an upwind direction relative to the probe, and a curved surface adjacent a point of extension of the probe from the strut.

  • Patent number: 7093342
Abstract: Thin steel strip is passed through a pinch roll stand comprising pinch rolls to a rolling mill comprising a pair of work rolls and upper and lower backing rolls. Strip passes through the bite between the work rolls and strip squeezing forces are applied between the work rolls to reduce the thickness of the strip. The pinch rolls apply tension to the strip passing to the work rolls. In order to minimize generation of crimping defects in the strip, the tension applied by the pinch rolls is high enough to ensure no part of the strip entering the work rolls is in longitudinal compression such as to exceed the buckling stress of the strip. The applied tension is sufficiently low as to produce no more than 1% strip elongation through creep. The strip may be hot rolled by the work rolls at a temperature in the range of 700° C.–1200° C.

  • Patent number: 7020773
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for enabling strong mutual authentication between two computers in a communication system. A user from a client attempts to gain access to a server. The server transmits a first key encrypted by a second key to the client and a second key encrypted by a user's private key to a verifier. The verifier uses the user's login information to obtain the user's private key, which the verifier uses to obtain the second key. The verifier transmits the second key to the client and the client decrypts the first key with the second key. The client then transmits the second key encrypted by the first key to the server. If the received second key is the same as the generated second key, the client is authenticated to the server.
