  • Patent number: 4288588
Abstract: Methyl-substituted polyphenylacyl compounds are prepared by selective oxidation of oligomers of mesitylene. These methyl-substituted polyphenylacyl compounds are useful as intermediates for polyamides and polyesters. The esters are useful as plasticizers for polyvinylchloride.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 13, 1978
Date of Patent: September 8, 1981
    Assignee: Standard Oil Company (Indiana)
    Inventor: John A. Donohue

  • Patent number: 3992435
Abstract: Process for coupling alkyl esters of polyalkylbenzoic acid to prepare polyalkylbiphenylpolycarboxylic acid compounds which comprises anodically oxidizing said alkyl esters in a non-nucleophilic media by applying a source of direct current in liquid phase at atmospheric pressure and temperatures from -30.degree. to 80.degree. C. The biphenyl acid compounds are useful in the formation of polyester resins, including alkyds, and fiber-forming polymers.
