  • Patent number: 8636691
Abstract: The present invention monitors an IV bag injection port and informs the user of prior injections. The present invention employs an object and/or a sealed chamber within a transparent IV fluid bag injection port. In the case of the object, notification of prior use is achieved when the object's or IV fluid's appearance is altered. With respect to the sealed chamber, the chamber's seal is breached to allow fluid to pass between the chamber and the IV bag to change the appearance of the contents of the chamber. Since the injection port and bag walls are at least partially transparent, medical personnel are able to observe the altered appearance of either the object, IV fluid or the sealed chamber.

  • Patent number: 8606117
Abstract: A correlation optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) system embeds an OTDR signal in a digital data signal that is to be converted into an optical signal and transmitted across an optical fiber to a remote receiver. In particular, the digital data signal is amplitude modulated with the OTDR signal, which is based on a pseudo noise (PN) sequence, such as an M-sequence. The amplitude modulation is relatively small, for example, less than about 10% of the digital data signal's peak amplitude in an effort to limit the OTDR signal's effect on communication performance. A sequence recovery element receives reflections from the optical fiber and converts the reflections to digital samples. Each digital sample from the sequence recovery element is correlated by correlators that respectively correspond to delays and, hence, locations along the optical fiber, and accumulators accumulate the correlation values from the correlators.

  • Patent number: 8532266
Abstract: An emergency services key (e.g., ESQK or ESRK) is guaranteed to be available from a limited size ESQK pool, such that an available ESQK is always selected and associated with an ongoing emergency call with no measurable impact to existing calls, even if all ESQK pool members are marked as unavailable. A plurality of ESQKs are grouped into a pool of emergency service keys “ESQK Pool ID”, each including anywhere from 1 to N number of ESQKs. Each ESQK preferably has a “Timestamp”, and information relating to the specific emergency E911 call (“Call Data ID”). The ESQK having a Call Data ID=“NULL”, and having the oldest Timestamp, is chosen for selection. If no such ESQK has both Call Data ID=NULL and the oldest Timestamp is found, then the ESQK with merely the oldest Timestamp is selected.

  • Patent number: 8526824
Abstract: A correlation system, such as a correlation optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) system, transmits a correlation sequence, such as an M-sequence, and measures the returns of the correlation sequence over time. The system correlates the transmitted sequence with the returns to provide correlation measurement values that respectively correspond to different distances from the point of transmission. A correlation error compensation element adjusts each correlation measurement value in order to cancel the contribution of the correlation error floor from the measurements to provide compensated measurement values that are substantially free of the effects of the correlation error floor.

  • Patent number: 8467320
Abstract: Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) devices are invited to a conference bridge based on a pre-defined criteria for the conference bridge (e.g., passengers on a plane. The conference invite messages are transmitted using Internet Protocol, which they may or may not accept. The invited VoIP users may be determined based on their physical proximity to the initial caller and other pre-determined characteristics. A VoIP soft switch includes conference bridges that eliminate the conventional requirement that they dial the phone number of another specific VoIP communications device. Instead, location information relating to the initial VoIP user is passed to the VoIP conference bridge, either from the user's VoIP communication device or from their respective location server. Location and other information is then compared by the VoIP soft switch against other VoIP devices, to find potential VoIP conference participants.
