  • Patent number: 10814146
Abstract: A method for delivering therapeutic radiation to a target includes positioning a multi-aperture collimator on the skin within a trajectory of orthovoltage x-rays directed at the target, thus generating an array of minibeams, each of width between 0.1 mm to 0.6 mm. The skin is irradiated with the array. An effective beam of therapeutic radiation, which may be a solid beam, is delivered to the target at a predetermined tissue depth by merging adjacent orthovoltage x-ray minibeams sufficiently to form the effective beam. The effective beam may be formed proximal to the target. The depth at which the effective, preferably, solid, beam is formed is controlled by varying one or more of the spacing of the minibeams in the array, the minibeam width, the distance from the x-ray source to the collimator, and the x-ray source spot size. Planar minibeams can be arc-scanned while continuously modulating beam shape and intensity.

  • Publication number: 20200298022
Abstract: A pencil beam system includes a charged particle beam generator, a transport beamline apparatus, a scan nozzle, a fast deflector electromagnet, and a controller. After a therapeutic dose is delivered to a first target spot, the fast deflector electromagnet generates a first magnetic field that causes the net deflection of the charged particle beam to transition from the first target spot to an adjacent target spot. After the charged particle beam is directed to the adjacent target spot, the controller simultaneously adjusts the first magnetic field and the scan nozzle magnetic field to reduce and eliminate the contribution of the first magnetic field to the net deflection. The fast deflector electromagnet is deliberately designed with limited magnetic field and limited deflecting power to provide a higher slew rate, faster settling and less hysteresis contribution to beam position as compared to the scan nozzle electromagnets.

  • Patent number: 10694904
Abstract: The invention relates to a dispensing nozzle 2 for a container of wipes (not shown). The nozzle 2 features an annular projection 14 the inside of which features inward facing spikes 17. The spikes can be made from a flexible elastomer or a non flexible polypropylene material. The spikes 17 feature ‘slit’ sections of weakness that enables the spikes to flex upwardly when subjected to upward pressures from say a wipe (not shown) passing though the structure of the dispensing nozzle 2. If downward forces act on the wipe after it has been inserted into the nozzle so as to force the wipe 4 back into its container, two things happen. 1) The spikes 17 or spikes flex back to their original position thereby imposing space restrictions within the annular projection that imped wipe fall back. 2) The ends 20 of the spikes 17 dig into the wipe thereby impeding wipe fall back still further.

  • Publication number: 20200174333
Abstract: Various embodiments herein relate to electrochromic windows that are bird friendly, as well as methods and apparatus for forming such windows. Bird friendly windows include one or more elements that make the window visible to birds so that the birds recognize that they cannot fly through the window. Bird friendly windows can be used to minimize avian-window collisions, and therefore minimize avian deaths resulting from such collisions. In various embodiments, a window may be patterned such that the pattern is visible to birds. In these or other cases, the window may be made hazy, where the haze is visible to birds. The pattern and/or haze may be visible at wavelengths that fall in UV, and minimally noticeable (if at all) in wavelengths within the spectrum visible by humans.

  • Patent number: 10644670
Abstract: A radiofrequency filter utilizing a common mode choke both as a traditional common mode choke as well as the inductance in a low pass filter. Filter topology as well as component selection is optimized for wide band operation. Common mode chokes allow differential currents to pass with little attenuation while common mode currents are effectively presented with an inductance in the common current path. This inductance is used in a low pass filter configuration to present an even higher attenuation to common mode currents. The use of multiple chokes and/or differing core materials contributes to wider band operation without pronounced resonances. The capacitance used in the low pass filter is connected in a way as to reduce its effect on the data signals while still being effective in filtering.
